Hostility against other hunters....

WHY is it that I sense some hostility of posters against others posting in this forum?
Is it because we hide on an ALIAS?
WELL I should maybe start with myself then.
Kind of clear a little bit of the air and introduce myself.

My name is Louie David, the LAST NAME is David.
I started hunting since 1970 and camped in the snow my first year in Canada from the Philippines.
We had guns when I was a youngster but it was for protection and shooting targets so that we had a chance to hit if we had to shoot back. I am no expert at anything.
I am retired and worked in a teaching lab at University of Guelph for 33 years involving a couple of courses Doctors of Veterinary Medicine students have to take in their first year.
This lead me to a lot of reading on matters related to their first year courses.
So I know a little bit of everything but not hardly enough.
The 40 yrs of hunting and fishing taught me to observe in the field and I am sill doing that even today.
So some of my post will relate to that.
Whenever I post I try not to involve the poster but try and concentrate on the subject in hope of helping somehow.
I am sorry that sometimes when I re read my post I sounded like impolite but It is NOT my intention.
So if sometimes I post and it sounds like it's hostile please give me the benefit of the doubt as my intentions are good albeit it doesn't always look that way.....

I think that I'm hostile or appear hostile in two ways towards hunters and anglers.

I am hostile towards those people who I feel aren't appropriate to represent me as a hunter in the public's eye. I absolutely don't want to be painted with the same brush as some people who want to represent our communities.

And I sometimes appear hostile to people whom I don't think have well thought out ideas (whether I agree with them or not). This hostility is more just a well-intended scrutiny, because if I, a hunter and angler, can make your idea seem silly, someone who doesn't support hunting or angling is going to jump all over you.

I think that what get's us into trouble sometimes is that we are not careful about how we draw the line between giving a personal opinion and passing judgement on others.

It was reading the book Hunting with the Bow and Arrow by Dr. Saxton Pope that showed me that hunting ethics are not black and white, but many shades of grey.

Ethics are personal, if enough people believe in these ethics they become law, hence why we now have anterless tags and seasons for all types of fish and game.

I have noticed a lot of different hostility out there this past season, in-fighting will do nothing to further our sports. Just because you do not like an ATV going by you on private land does not mean every guy on at ATV is good for nothing punk. Or the hunter who only gets out on weekends is not necessarily a bad hunter. Same thing goes for those who choose to keep fish and take game. If you are legally allowed to take the game or the fish that is your choice and you will abide by your personal ethics, if someone disagrees with this then please stick with the old saying "if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything".

My name is Rodney, I grew up around Waterloo, I moved to Ottawa to attend school and completed College as a Mechanical Technologist. I am 28 years old, I have been hunting since I was 15 and have been in the field with my dad while he was hunting since I was 11 or 12. He took me shooting when I was 6, controlled of course, we used to shoot pop cans in behind grandpas barn. I have hunted deer with bow, rifle and shotgun, I probably know more then I should about firearms but hey, I have a passion for this stuff. I have been fishing since I was 3, started out with my mom and holding me with 1 hand and keeping the rod from going over the side with the other.

I believe the apparent hostility comes from primarily two sources: a blinkered view of things and the brevity that online posting entails.

Nobody really wants to write a novel here (although some posts have been pretty long, lol) so thoughts can't be fully "fleshed out" which means that others "interpret" comments and fill in the gaps with their own blinkered views. Re-reading ones own posts or replies before hitting the "post it" button would go a long way (spelling too guys, wow, this texting craze makes for terrible spellers).

Forums are a venue for opinions and we all know that they vary greatly, either through a lack of concrete knowledge, a "but thats the way I was taught/told/heard", etc. Some make a joke that gets interpreted as an attack too but some of the joking comments are a hoot (icons indicating the seriousness of the comment are a helpful indication). Even with the occasional spat, I find this forum an enjoyable place to review from time to time, sometimes even helpful, lol.:thumbup:

Wow great ''topic'' And this should be for every1 to read! So far posts are very accurate, and I 'agree'' with everything that has been said. Not every1 means harm or nagitivity, it just comes out by some1 reading before thinking about it.

So glad this was brought up, and some great comments posted. Sometimes though, some of us (including me) need to be 'schooled'. Sometimes those lessons are not sugar-coated, but has a bigger impact. You can cry about it, or learn from it. I choose to learn, and not take gruff comments personally. I've learned a lot in a short time here and can say that, without a doubt, this is a forum full of positive, ethical, intelligent folks! I respect the person who 'schooled' me - he taught me something about myself. As a result, I think it made me a better person. In any case, the tone of some comments can be misinterpreted sometimes. Its the nature of any kind of forum, where there's no face-to-face conversation. Emoticons help! Let's be thoughtful, but stay true to ourselves too! :) getting off my soapbox now.

You are right on with this statement ! During my career, I've been called up on the carpet, so to speak, many times due to this very thing. Email is the worst way to carry on a conversation, in my opinion. Very often the receiver misinterprets what the sender is relating, simply because the received can't benefit by the senders voice inflection, mannerisms and tone.

Personaly I think too many posters have thin skin and upset over minor comments.
I post what I like, and think someone else would like to read.
Other than that I don't care about any negetive comments that come of it.

But I do beleive if you can't say anything good, or benificial, then don't comment.

I appreciate blunt, straight talk. We do ourselves a disservice if we mealy-mouth our thoughts.

Not on this forum but I know someone on another forum that looks forward to a Saturday night battle of words after a few brown bottles. Face to face we are all gentlemen but keyboard to keyboard what I mean to say may not be read to mean the same.:whacked:

I got caught over one apparent ethic's issue but try and stay mainstream.

Do we really want a forum made up exclusively of thick skinned people or a representative mix of everyone that hunts and fishes?

I agree on the "if you don't have anything to contribute, don't comment". This forum is for helping eachother and learning, Not shooting guys down.

Almost everybody on here is very friendly, although I have recived rather rude PM's about how I ask "stupid questions" LOL

I have only received 2 of those. Not sure if they got bounced or simply gave up. One called himself Captainslaughter or Sergeant slaughter, or something like that, the other one had a name (escapes me now) like a cross-country ski binding.

I think this a great topic as well. I enjoy the forums and don't mind most of the banter.

What does get me is the posters who think they've hunted more than everyone else, have more experience than everyone else and try to shove their knowledge down others throats. Sometimes they belittlwe others ideas and opinions because of an assuption that they have more experience than others.

No one knows me or how experienced I am. (or am not) I am almost 60 years old and have lived as far north as Moosonee and as far south as Niagara. I have hunted all the big game in Ontario other than elk and all the small game. This is the last time you'll see me brag (if that's what it may be called, because I don't like that).

I'm not too old to learn from someone 100 years old, or someone 10 years old. I do have my opinions, most based on some sort of experience but a lot based on what I've heard, read and seen and the decisions I've made based on that. I also respect others opinions (I think and hope) even though I might not agree.

When it is all over, the Golden Rule will get us all through just about any conversation. Treat others as you would like them to treat you.

Well, I never really made a secret of my name on this board - type scarkner into google and you will get lots of hits and find my twitter accounts, etc. Steve Carkner from Ottawa, I am in my 40's.

I have been hunting for only 9 years. I come from a family of non-hunters, family never had a cottage or really did much outdoor stuff at all. I have always loved the outdoors but traveled a lot as a kid so didn't have much chance to do more than fishing once in a while.

Now I am trying to learn. I read and watch videos to try to learn and have made some good friends and hunting partners on this board. I can say with absolute authority that having someone SHOW you how to do something, weather it is hunting for deer or skinning a catfish, you just can't get the knack from anything you do on the internet (although you can get some awesome tricks).

Do I make mistakes, heck yeah! And it is difficult when other more experienced members on the board jump on you for posting something you did wrong. but on the balance, I have found that the overwhelming majority of people have been great and my love for hunting and the outdoors has only grown since joining up.

No Regrets - And ready to try anything.

Hate to bring it up, but tags and seasons were not created because of ethics. They were created for conservation and sustainment of the species, balance of the ecosystem etc... :rolleye:

Not 100% what the OP was talking about, but Like minded ethical hunters were the direct cause of getting partying hunting for does legal in Ontario

Nothing to hide here, google Jason Smith from Timmins, You'll find me on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc, etc, (and about 6 others in town).

I have no hard feelings towards anyone here, sometimes I feel people take things a little to seriously, or feel that they, or their beliefs are being personally attacked during conversations on opinions/beliefs/ethics etc...

However I think you get what you give, if you just come on here to slam everyone and their ideas, then yea, people are going to slam on you.

If everytime someone shares a story or a success and all you do is talk about how you had a bigger or better one, yea you're probably gonna get a bit of resentment thrown your way.

If you... you get where I'm going with all this.

But if you take things in stride, and offer up ideas/suggestions, etc, on topics you know and are able to provide sound data, then I think you'll be considered a respected asset and treated as such.

Sometimes stuff gets blown so out of proportion

(Case in point, MikePal made a great simple post, reminding everyone to throw their tags on) and it turned into a massive debate about how pictures can be miss construde, or what a CO would do if he came across you taking pics etc...

Someone was just offering up a friendly reminder/suggestion and it turned into a pissing match.

Sometimes the best approach is to use the work e-mail rule of thumb, initial response, rebutal, walk away... anything else is just escalating it.

As for me, This is a great place.

I've got to meet and hunt with two great guys, DanDuf and Rustic, My family now has an amazing 4 legged companion thanks to 3BlackDogs, and I met a great friend and his family who opened his home to me for the night (Dythbringer) when I went to get the dog, and PGidley tracking a bear till the wee hours lol.

I'd say i'm battin a 1000 here.

I would like to remain anonymous, as stating my name really isnt going to change to much.

I grew up in northern ontario, and my dad had taken me hunting before I could walk. As soon as I had the strength to hold a gun, he let me shoot it. I was 6 years old. I had been fishing from roughly the same age, probably before I was even born lol.

As soon as I was old enough, I got my hunting license and was hunting with my dad every weekend we could. When I was old enough to hunt alone, I hunted out at our camp for hours and hours on end. I was slow to have any real sucess, but the more time I spent out in the bush, the more I learnt. EVERY trip out in the bush I learnt something new, and nothing has changed to this day. I still learn EVERY day I spend out there.

I eventually started bringing home more and more grouse, and rabbits. I hunted moose with my dad, but we never were really serious about it cause taking a kid into the bush for a week or two just wasn't possible while I was in school, and was so young.

Come spring and summer, we'd spend EVERY weekend out at the camp, and fish every friday and saturday night. We'd do this right up until fall, and when hunting season started again.

Fast forward to this day, I'm now 22 years old, and have almost every game animal and species of fish under my belt, with only a small selection left to harvest. I will say that moose hunting has been the toughest for me (calf hunting anyway). I have harvested hundreds and hundreds of grouse, a fair share of rabbits (50-60), almost every species of duck that one would find up here on an average year, geese, woodcock, snipe, skunk, foxes, crows, sharptail grouse, bears, and moose. Ive caught every fish species up here except for a few. Ive caught : Walleye, sauger, goldeye, pike, suckers, whitefish, ling, perch, brookies, rainbows and smallmouth.

All I need: Wolf, weasel, splake, laker, sturgeon, racoon (never seen one up here, but apparently they're here), aurora trout

(^ thats all lol) Still a good amount of animals I need. I'm sure Im missing something, but its on my hit list for sure.

The older I get, the deeper my passion (obsession) for the outdoors grows. I want to start trapping, and run a line of my own one day. If I cant hunt or fish, life just isnt going the way it should be IMO.

You couldn't pay me to give up anything to do with the outdoors. I also have a passion for the freedom and opportunities in the north. You couldn't pay me to move down south. I'd rather live in a cardboard box up north than a mansion down south.

One day I want to live my dream of hunting the yukon. I want to own a house, and a trapline up there. All I want is to shoot every big game animal up there, and to take a monster grizzly with my marlin guide gun in 45-70. A few rounds from buffalo bore or Garrett ammunition would be grizzly medicine.

I try not to be hostile or too judgmental, and I must say I've been treated well by everyone since I joined the forum....well, its predecessor.
I'm a total Grammar Nazi in real life but I try to let it slide here.
My grandpa started me shooting a .22 single shot and fishing in his creek near Powassan when I was about six years old. That was 45 years ago and I'm still at it. My Dad hunted to feed the family but disliked killing animals so he gave it up about that time. My brothers and I taught ourselves to hunt up in Kenora as teenagers in the 1970's.
I like slightly different guns and cartridges and keep buying rifles, shooting them, and selling them for a new toy.
I've learned lots on this site; I used to live in Southern Ontario and I must say I admire the dedication of those of you who hunt down there. I'd be a mental case if I had to put up with the lack of Crown Land and the thieves and trespassers!
I do get upset when a simple poaching thread turns into racist rhetoric. It happens several times a year.

From my experience here, the problem is not with the anonymity of the poster that creates an issue, guys just get to be known by their Call Sign , some guys post their real first names etc to personalize their post etc, but I don’t think it changes the value of the forum or the post whether there is full disclosure or an alias is used.

The OP is pondering why the hostility, well that has more to do with what I call the ‘Jekll/Hyde’ syndrome ..it’s the same human condition with the generally mild manner guy who lashes out with road rage while in the safe confines of their vehicle. They find the can ‘vent’ their pent up hostility within their lives when not having to deal with a face to face confrontation.

Most of the problems with name calling, insults and hostility on here comes from guys that get involved in a discussion and get challenged on their view or opinion but lack the ability to debate it. It’s a skill that used to be taught in high school, how to defend your opinion with logical well researched facts and presented in an articulate manner without stooping to the level where your lash out against those who challenge you.

In the old school yard days you knew when the debate was lost when one side yelled out “ yea well your mother wears army boots” ….same same.

Well that's not cool. You should have seen me when I first joined the forum. I spammed the board with all kinds of "stupid" questions. I didn't know a thing about fishing....seriously....I actually held my rod upside down for the first few months...LOL.

Any successes I've had on the water are due almost wholly to the information and hands on training I've had from the guys on this board. I can't even begin to detail the kinds of things I've learned here and in the field. There seems to me to be a core group here that keep this place running with their wisdom and willingness to share and teach. Their compassion and humor, generosity and sportsmanship are what make this place so compelling for the rest of us.

On the other hand, it does seem that there is a subset of people who come here spoiling for a fight, or who feel the need to prove themselves or have self esteem issues in real life. Or something. I don't know. They are compensating for something LOL, talking all big and tough on the internet obviously gives them some sort of payback. I ignore it for all but the amusement value :)

The other thing is that a lot of your "dumb questions" really weren't that dumb - and you are doing quite a bit of thinking on your own.

Sir, I hide from nobody, and I am pretty easy to find. Search a few threads and you probably will find my son's birthdates. I agree there may be hostility at times, but it is not always an under current of it on this board. Maybe you confuse us with someone else? I hold the members here just a notch above those on some other boards I have visited. Forgive the hostility, just sometimes I feel irked.

I have seen some of this hostility. At times I have probably been guilty. I post too much and that is a risk of posting too much, and getting sucked into debates. OK I have been in a muck-up or two on here with certain members but feel we do a good job keeping it civil knowing the other's stance on certain topics...Right Gilroy? :moose:

Much of the hostility I have witnessed comes on the off topic forum, but over there we all know to wear our big boy underwear (big girl panties to be inclusive ;) ). Over there a lot of political topics come up...hunting and angling are not only the domain of right wing Conservatives as a recently posted article suggests. :ninja:

I have been around long enough to know basically what to expect from whom, who will debate, who will be gruff crotchety, and what the leanings of certain members will be, and whose answer I will trust on certain topics. I know who is inviting, who is open, who is closed.

I also see the "elitism" some members get, in figuring their way of hunting is the only way, etc.

I also see the "shouting" when people don't know the regulations...It is funny when people get into it with COs, Ex-COs, Cops and ex-cops on laws and regulations etc, and think they know more because that is what their grand-pappy taught them 20 years ago.

Some of the topics I get involved in would be better discussed over beers....but the forum works too. :thumbup:

Some of us just know when we see a topic, what is going to happen, as there is a LOT of repetition, hence the "popping some corn and opening a beer" type of posts.

Do I hide behind my handle? I have used it on a few different forums, I have relayed where I live, where I am from, what caused me to move, what I do for a living, photos etc. So although my name is not out there (except on PMs I am kind to include my name) much of my info is.

Because the internet can be a very dangerous place,on any social media website,using a web/user name is basic computer personal security. Nothing we put on any of these sites is considered private or confidential,even some "secure" sites aren't all that secure. There's no end to the "crackpots" with an axe to grind or psychologically unbalanced people whom,given the opportunity,could do serious damage to personal reputations and/or grievous injury to "prove a point" over any inadvertent or percieved slight. Even with a simple name and general area of residency,anyone can be found using any number of very simple techniques. Enjoying comaraderie of like-minded people on a website such as this one is a wonderful thing,but,we must always bear in mind that what we read,perceptions we develop over time may not actually be real,at all. Always excercise great caution. Keep personal stuff OFF the internet,no matter what site you happen to be using.

I usually enjoy almost all the discussions even the overly passionate and expressive ones. Of couse, I tend to not take much personally (even all-out personal attacks) so it may be easier for me than some.
Also, I'm typically more open to different points of view than most on here and can actually be swayed.

Case in point; coyote hunting. I've never been against it, but never really saw a need for it either. I grew up in a part of Ontario where coyotes were simply more myth than mammal. We never saw them or any sign of them. As a nature lover with an affinity for predators, I actually really liked everything I read/heard about the resourceful critters.

However, the opinions and knowledge shared on oodmag forums (not the ridiculous hyperbole "the only good yote is a dead yote" kind) helped open my eyes to the greater concern and need to keep these animals in check, province-wide.
So now I've gone from not seeing a point to hunting them to actively considering trying a few coyote hunting methods this winter.

Do you think its easy to be a " legend " and always " right " ? . Well let me tell you it isn't and they are called " PICKEREL " not walleye . LOL

I don't post often in the hunting section because there's not a lot to add after most people give advice. I have gotten I to with a guy on here who called me out about calling the cops on trespassers and another guy that thought I'm disgusting for keeping a limit if fish. I answered a post last year in the upland section had a guy pm me about how wrong I am and he's shot more birds then I ever have seen, at the time I posted I was doing a trident evaluation for berreta but didn't want to tell him that. I've been lucky to be employed as an upland guide, have a great dog, fish a few days a week, has browning and Redwing tackle prostaff, and always try to answer and help be use I've received a ton of help from you all on here. I've also got to know quite a few members from here personally and will be mean to guys like sawbill because hes old, il tease woody for being a French Newfie, il argue politics with Joe anytime, make fun of roe+'s leaky boat, and would expect them to do the same to me. At the end of the day most people on here are not nameless guys hiding behind a keyboard, they are guys that will hunt and fish with you to learn and help you learn.


Also I'm Paul Devlin, I'm huge in Japan look me up sometime lol.

I would'nt go so far as to say you're huge in Japan. We've all seen you whiz off the deck at Woodys.

huntrfishr , youll find that alot here. this forum went south years ago. as with most forums, just a bunch of people sqaukin(most of the time) other than that the forum is great for resources. and there truely are some good guys on here, cheers to them.

I like this thread.. i too have fallen on the blade when it comes to misinterpreting somone's thread or judging a little when i know i hate being judged.. just probably one of them days i have verbal diarrhea and don't think... i think alot of the times, like posted by another poster, we tend to ( when we hear stories of injured deer or "bad decisions", etc) put oursevles in the place of the poster and tell ourselves " what the heck?? i'd never do that!!", when in all reality, alot of things bad or unfortunate do happen to us based on simular bad luck or bad karma, etc... my name is Tim Dezan, i currently live in chatham. I was born in Parry Sound but grew up and spent most of my life in New Liskeard, Ontario... I am currently 35, have worked since i was 15... my family has owned 2 businesses up in New Liskeard ( Riverside Bait and Tackle and Char's Cakes and Crafts), but when parents divorced they closed up. Went to, and graduated, college in Lindsay, Ontario in the Forest Recreation program. Currently , as mentioned, live in Chatham where I have a beautiful wife and 3 amazing kids... been hunting since i was 15, but recall many times grandma and grandpa taking along in their 1960's army jeep down the trails in search for grouse, my uncle taking me bunny hunting... i never started deer or archery hunting until i moved to chatham, where my stepdad introduced me to it, and i'm now hooked for life.. i've been lucky, taking 8 deer in 9 years...

Unfortunately, I too have let my toungue (in this case fingers type) wag before my brain thinks from time to time.

I guess we all make mistakes in interpreting someone's post but that is not the case on some post I see.
I mean sometimes outright personal attacks are diced out instead of honest to goodness personal opinions limited to the topic.
However I have seen a lot of nice very well written postings lately and that only helps to promote the use of this forum.
I tip my hat to those you sincerely are helpful in a very positive way.

Someone was just offering up a friendly reminder/suggestion and it turned into a pissing match.

Sometimes the best approach is to use the work e-mail rule of thumb, initial response, rebutal, walk away... anything else is just escalating it.

As for me, This is a great place.

I've got to meet and hunt with two great guys, DanDuf and Rustic, My family now has an amazing 4 legged companion thanks to 3BlackDogs, and I met a great friend and his family who opened his home to me for the night (Dythbringer) when I went to get the dog, and PGidley tracking a bear till the wee hours lol.

I'd say i'm battin a 1000 here.

I have jumped the gun at times, but when I did it was FACT.......

Its easy to "vent" on a keyboard....I dont know how many times i have feverishly typed something in response to an argument I feel strongly about and then stopped - just before hitting the reply button and asked myself: "is this really THAT BIG A DEAL to get involved with, and AM I CONTRIBUTING TO THE CRAP?" Often, I hit erase, and just let it go....

Heck, I could be out hunting or fishing....

That being said, there are some very helpful tips on here for both anglers and hunters alike. I certainly have gotten some help here, and I would like to think I have helped others. It is tough sometimes not to wade into the fray on certain topics, but if it aint helping, then just let it go....I keep thinking of that old Seinfeld episode of Kramer...."Serenity NOW!!!"

I don't think it is specifically hostility towqrds hunters.
Wherever you go ( work , school, forum, home ) there will be dysfunctional people who take out their anger by bullying others verbally. That's life. The only solution is to live in a cave . Sometimes I just consider the source and let it go , and other times I get unreasonably upset. :ashamed:

I was just re reading some of the comments here as I notice the tone of posters lately going against each other.

Just this thought whatever come out of our mouth or write about all started as a thought.
We were already thinking of it long before it became words.
I myself sometimes lost control of this and it becomes harsh words or actions.

Hopefully I can master and control myself doing this.

If not well, I'm just human and I hope to learn from my mistakes.
As I know this always room for improvement...

I've never "hidden" who I am. First of all, given what I do, given I have a website that people visit from all over the world. Hiding my identity would be sort of pointless. Secondly, the easiest "test" of all, is if you feel you need to hide something, maybe you shouldn't be doing it.

I'm an old school kind of guy. Live my life a certain way, whether it's online and social media or in person at work, or a pub over beer. I have many sayings or motto's that I try to live my life by, with respect to how I conduct myself. Being human, I'm not perfect, nor is anyone.

~Respect everyone and everything, but never sacrifice your own.
~To each his own…….until and unless you step on my toes ( see respecting everyone, but never losing sight of)

Most people/posters I'm sure want to be accorded that "respect". They want some latitude and understanding that what they "say" may not come across the way they mean ( see chirping over grammar, small mistakes in spelling, or math, etc, etc). That what they "say" might be misinterpreted ( The written word lacks tone and inflection, as well as facial expression). More that might be added to the list.

Its a two way street. If you want it, show it.

There are (imo) people that seem to want to "fight", or squabble over what I call "wee bones". In almost all cases what it is, is.

Failure to communicate.
Do unto others
Respect everyone/everything
To each his own

I'll respect you, so respect me. "Do unto others". It starts here, do unto.

I am lucky, given what I do I have been able to meet many members in the flesh. I've yet to meet anyone I didn't get along with, or vice versa. In this day and age of texting, forums, Facebook and more. People (society) are forgetting how to communicate and that, it's a two-way street. Forgetting that behind the monitor, behind the smart phone, or the online name is a person.

A person with a "real" name.

Bang on...That does seem to the the main issue John...some people seem to have forgotten (or never learned) how to communicate with each other eye to eye.

To me its not hard to figure out 90% of the members - just look up the left hand side of all posts and you'll see most are hiding behind a screen name and don't have the balls to run under their real name.

These forums have changed from Helping others with knowledge and expertise to chest pounding "who's the best"
Then you have the silent RATS !

Just take it as it is, you'll be far better off.

Gotta take the good with the bad on these forums. There are a lot of good people with good things to share. I've met a number of people from here face to face, uncle fester, outack, ninepointer, wheelie, boo, jeeptag, all stand up people in my books and I must say I look at their posts from a slightly different angle with a bit more of an understanding of where they're coming from. It creates a whole different dynamic. I would encourage anyone here, if you get a chance to meet up with any other forum member even just for a coffee do it. You may be pleasantly surprised that you have more in common than not. You'll also be surprised that a lot of people are dealing with anything from cancer and other debilitating health issues within their families, job loss, serious problems with kids and any one of a number of problems that plague our lives. Sometimes when people seem bitter or moody on the forum there's a whole other set of circumstances in their lives that they're dealing with and you'll learn that sometimes they need a bit of slack.

The point of a discussion board is to.....discuss. Not all of our opinions are the same, and we should be allowed to express them. Now that said, being overly hostile towards someone for a varying opinion isnt proper.

Im no angel, and have typed my fair share of things here that I pretty much instantly regret. Just like in real life ive said them. Ive apologized when ive thought ive been harsh.

But I dont agree we should all sit around the imaginary internet campfire singing kumbayah. Discussion, even heated discussion, can benefit both parties if they can stay mature about it. Things can be learned. Ways of thinking can be changed (for the better).

Wow, there's other Filipino hunters in Canada? I'm half Filipino and was born here so I don't really count but I've only even known of one other Filipino hunter here in Canada. I guess hunting was ingrained in my blood from my grandfather who was a hunter in the Philppines who I never really knew I come from a non hunting home and non of my relatives in Canada hunt, but for some reason it just ticked and now huntings almost all I know. Just in case any bodies wondering were this came from the original posters Filipino(you guys can continue your conversation now).

I used to hunt Coyotes with Dogs, Racoons, Moose but have never hunted Bear and Wolves....

I fish a little nowadays compared to fishing even in winter time for Steelhead in my younger days....
