Hi I am considering a new muzzle loader and been been reading up on the cva just wondering what experiances you have had? Are they as acurate as they claim with the bergara barrels? Accura,or the Apex. What loads are you shooting. Thanks:moose:

My buddy has been shooting a CVA Omega for many year and loves it. It's accurate, shots well and he's had great success with it.
He shots 275 gr Dead Centre PR bullets with 90gr of T7....
Picked up an optima magnum this past December. I'm shooting clover leafs at 200 yds with 3 whitehots behind a Barnes 245 gr spit fire mz!
Just a heads up....IMR posts the following warning:
The maximum load per shot should never exceed 120 grains (2) Pellets.
http://www.imrpowder.com/ml-warning.html
So if your using 50gr pellets, you should NEVER exceed 2 pellets.
Safety first ..at all times :)
I have a CVA Wolf and it shoots great. Nice and compact and easy to clean!
Most guys that set up their ML's here on my range have found that less it better for accuracy. Some guys like the convenience of the pellets so they are limited, but the guys like myself who use loose powder, we found that most of our guns like about 90 grs of T7.
I was reading an article way back when I first started and it said to lay a white bed sheet out in front of the bench and see how much powder is being kicked out after you shoot. It was amazing to see as you got over 110 grs just how much is wasted.
Half the fun of this sport is adjusting the loads...never a wasted day on the range :)
Mike,
I just looked into that link you posted and if you check into the "get muzzleloader data" link, it shows my load on there. My muzzy is a magnum, meaning I can drop 3 pellets into it. By the looks of things I ok with shooting my current load...
But then they have that disclaimer at the bottom of the page...
And you're right, there's never a day wasted at the range!
I cut and pasted the load instructions and spaced them out so you can see it better....the x3 is if you are using 30gr pellets...
The maximum load per shot should never exceed total Pellets containing more than 100 grains volume equivalent. That means, no more than:
45 Caliber 1) Two (2) 50 grain Pellets 2) Three (3) 44/45 caliber 30 grain
50 Caliber 1) Three (3) 30 grain Pellets, or 2) Two (2) 50 grain Pellets, or 3) One (1) 50 grain Pellet and one (1) 30 grain Pellet.
Oh I read all of that, but check this out...

Warning
When using IMR® White Hots®, NEVER exceed a total of two (2) preformed charges.
The three (3) preformed charge load data shown here was developed for use only in firearms whose manufacturer’s instructions recommend three (3) preformed charges in their specific firearm only.
The user assumes all risk of assuring that the rifle manufacturer specifically recommends a three (3) preformed charge load for users firearm.
IMR® specifically disclaims any and all liability arising out of the use of any data that exceeds the White Hots® maximum load of two (2) preformed charges, and the user assumes all risk in doing so.
ahhh seen...the fine print at the bottom.
I think I would take heed of the IMR disclaimer....does your Gun manufacture specifically recommend a 3 pellet load ?
There's no specific load mentioned but it does say that the gun can take 3 pellets equalling 150gr, which was one of the reasons I bought it. I like being able to have that little extra reach and bullet energy.
Well there you go, then you should be OK... carry on...make smoke !!
Now I just need to christen the thing! My buddy and I were out for most of the muzzy week with only 1 doe spotted :( and his tag was only good for the unit on the other side of the road where we were, go figure lol
I do have plans of bringing it with me moose hunting this fall, just hope I see one within range!
I have the Optima Pro, bought it a couple of years after they were introduced. Accurate, reliable and easy to clean. The only complaint I have is the nickel finish does not hold up well. If they are still using that finish in the never models I would go with blued.
Mine likes PowerBelts with 2 50gr Triple 7 pellets. Not everyone's favourite load but I haven't had a reason to switch.
I shoot powerbelts too. Don't know why anyone would not like them. My gun does!
I've had a CVA kodiak .50 for about 5 years now. I really like it and its taken a lot of deer including the one in my avatar. I use 2pellets of 777 magnum (150 gr equivalent). I would definitely by another CVA. I'm not up in the newest models but I trust this brand. I put 250 gr TC shockwaves through it and have never had an accuracy issue.
I had a cva apex, cva optima pro and still have a cva optima. Sold the cva optima pro to buy a cva optima. Cva apex traded for a Horton team real tree crossbow. If I had buy one muzzleloader it would be the accura v2. Apex was a nice gun but the barrels were like 450 in canada. Too rich for my blood. Buy the accura v2 and you will be happy. Great muzzleloader and even has an adjustable trigger. I believe cva makes a great ml. I just shoot Blackhorn 209 period.
Thanks for the feed back everyone
I owned the CVA Optima Pro,shot many deer, very accurate gun, heavy but accurate.
Sold it wished I hadn't
First let me put my post from a different site:
http://www.modernmuzzleloader.com/fo...24964&start=25
Look at my first post from May 28th (First gun with pictures).
Then look at my post on the next page (Second gun, Replacement gun with pictures).
They are selling TOTAL JUNK for $600.00...
PS The bergara barrels are beautifully made and finished but they hook onto a piece of JUNK...
Bought a CVA Optima last year at BPS for $444.00 CDN. That was the gun, a scope, patches, bullet starter, cleaning solvent and 20 bullets. Got it sighted in the first time with just half a dozen shots. I then zero it in with the set I was going to hunt with.
That November my Son took his first (a buck) at 50 yards. The deer bolted for 50 yards and hit the ground.
We're using 295 gr Solid Copper Power Belt bullets, 100 gr (2 pellets) White Hots and Remington Primers. I'm quite pleased with this set up.
The Accura and Apex are nice guns and they offer multiple barrel combo's.
How that helps.
I bought a CVA Kodiak back in 2002. Like it. Shot a lot of deer with it. Some out to 200 yds. Have shot cloverleafs at 100 yds. Picked up an Accura V2 this month and am liking it better so far. A little lighter and stainless. Easier to clean. Haven't worked on the long shots yet.
my first one was a cva wolf love that little gun and wish I never sold it .will be looking for another wolf before fall gets here .for the money thy are hard to beat Dutch
