Have been wating for this for years :)
Here's a another link http://www.ottawasun.com/2013/11/13/...-store-in-2015
Guess were not going to get a Cabelas there, like someone had suggested might be the case...
Very unfortunate that it isn't a Cabelas. And now we'll never have on in the Ottawa area as Cabelas is very afraid of competition and smaller markets.
Sorry about your luck:)
Like I said in another thread....bummer...as I too was hoping for a Cabela's.
Better have a BPS than the sail we got now
I'll take Sail anyday, cheaper and the stuff is in stock.
Definitely. SAIL struggled to have sufficient stock and variety of stock when it first opened, but now that it's been rolling a couple years it's a far better option than BP.
More items and far better prices.
I would put BP's Redhead line ahead of SAIL's low budget GS goods... but other than that SAIL > BP, hands down.
Nice, more options and competition. Sail and Lebaron are my go to places right now but who knows, maybe BPS will have some good sales.
Sail price are way higher I paid 40 bucks more a a 200$ Nikon scope thatn Bass Pro
Nope. First of all that's your fault since SAIL price matches on everything other than Canada Goose jackets. Second of all SAIL's merchandising staff keeps tabs on competitors to ensure their prices are never more than a few percentage points different one way or the other.
In the last 2 years I've got:
an 8 gun cabinet for $99 at sail ($138 at TSC),
a Tikka T3 for $625 (next closest competitor was $715),
a 2-7 Redfield scope $155 (next closest competitor was $199),
a Rosignal extreme weather parka for $124 (reg $390),
a few boxes of Hornady 168gr .308 price matched with LeBarons for $27
And a bunch of other stuff.
Oh, and I priced a 14ft sportspal canoe thru them too.. $840... nearly $300 cheaper than any other retailer.
When they're both in town you'll see... overall BP doesn't come close to touching SAIL's savings.
That's it they gave me the pricematch but if they have to give you the price match it because they were higher
Sure sail will sometime have better price and sometime it will be bps but hey I like better red head stuff than the Gsk sail sells
A couple more examples from their catalogues selected at random...
Sail...HUNTER'S SPECIALTIES
Gambrel Magnum
$9.99
Bass Pro...$15.99
Sail...Caldwell
The Rock deluxe shooting rest
$89.99
Bass Pro...$99.99
Sail...BROWNING
X-Bolt Medaillon
Starting at $899.99
Bass Pro...$929.99
and so on....
Ya but if you want you can do tge same the other way I bought a Shimano real 10$ more at sail, like I said before my scope was higher too. It's good for all of us because both will be competing against each other to have better price, so we'll have better deals
Our BP store in Calgary are filled with idiots. One guy told me the only shotgun to use on ducks and geese was a 10 gauge. He said a 20 gauge was way too small. I asked him how many years he was hunting, to which he had just got his hunting licence. Though the girl sales associates are a distraction. Your local shop is the best for hunting equipment, not a box store!!
Yeah thats like that at all of those big store people who works there don't know much
Rack Hunter I mean you no disrespect, but like most I have tried a number of redhead items over the years from clothing to blinds to decs and they were all substandard products. But to each their own we are all entitled to our own opinions and we can all shop and spend our money where we wish on what we wish (I'll just be warmer and drier than you:):):))
I've only being the Vaughan BPS once since it opened....this new one won't make me want to go more. However, I can see the guys wanting to pop in when we're out that way for the Sportsman Shows in Carp, so I'll more than likely be there a few more time than before.
I really don't see the need to go specifically, they don't care any product lines that aren't carried elsewhere at comparable prices. I use a few different 'mom & pop' shops ( Bennett's Smith Falls/Gun Mart Brockville) for most of my stuff and will continue to do that. I rarely go into Ottawa to shop in general and I don't think I'm missing anything.
I understand you, it's our money so we'll spend it were we want. And I bought RedHead BoneDry stuff and they keep me warm and keep away the rain, but like you said we all have our opinion. And yes it would have been better if it was a Cabela's but I don't think Cabela's would of wanted to come in Ottawa because of the size.
Good Luck to you :)
I head to BPS about 6-8 times a year as the In laws live close by and it's my "break" I own a lot of redhead gear, (Mainly packs, and various clothing items) have not once, had an issue with any of it. Touch wood.
That being said, this past year has been the worst for actually being able to find things on the shelves.
Anothet thing about Sail's in ottawa that I find is that they don't have alots of crossbow acessories, would be fun if they could get some more:thumbup:
It will still be a two hour drive for me but I'm usually on my way by a few times a year anyway. Sail will compete with all the hunting and camping gear but I don't think they'll come close to the fishing lures and plastics theat bass pro carries. Every time I go to sail for my go to plastics all I see is empty shelves. Havent been back in a while.
Does Ottawa really need two (or 3 if you include LB's) big box hunting stores? I'm guessing the Bass Pro will go into another sprawl mall. Who is buying all this stuff? All you need to hunt is a gun, some shells/cartridges, good boots, a warm coat and a blaze orange hat and vest. To each their own.... but conspicuous consumption is the opposite of what hunting is about to me.
If they're heading to the BPS in Kanata down the 417.. and drive by Al's they made a big mistake....he's got everything you need and then some... no need to go any farther !!
Hate to rain on all the Ottawa member's parade but BP "ain't all that...", their prices are atrocious compared to LeBaron's or SAIL. I only go to store any more for specific items on sale from their flyer and even those prices are sometimes higher than the other store's regular prices. If it's not listed in their flyer or in the middle isles in the "cheapie" sections I flat-out refuse to cave in to their inflated prices.
Case-in-point, on the weekend my woman-folk decided to go shopping at Vaughn Mills for Xmas stuff, just like 95% of the rest of the men in that mall I wasted my time walking the BP aisles. The only two items I needed were a blackpowder speedloader kit (3 tubes) and a primer tool, they had them in stock for $9.99 EACH. LeBarons lists them for $4.55 each but I decided to take the short drive to SAIL down the street, they had them regularly priced at $4.99 each and guess what? SAIL and LeBarons still make a handsome profit at that price!
I know, i know... you're thinking "what a cheapskate..." and you're probably right, but paying 100% MORE on an identical, commonly found item is absolutely insane, no matter how cheap or expensive it is.
Sure Lakon, but as you said once in a while BP's sale items ARE worth the trip.
Someone posted earlier about Redhead's Bone Dry line. It's what i've been wearing the last 3 hunting seasons and i've never been warmer, drier or more comfortable. I got my XXL parka on sale for $95... It performs as well as UA, Remington and Browning's $400 versions.
It's only downside is the fit/style isn't as trim as the big brands. But for $300 savings... i'm okay with a little extra bulk.
The ONLY use I see BPS as having in the retail market is to provide a place for loved ones to buy gift cards and a place for guys to cash in those gifts cars.....otherwise, guys can get better deals elsewhere. :)
Could'nt agree with you more! I have the same Bone Dry parka (in hunter orange) and consider it an excellent buy, when it was on special... :) I liked it so much that I waited for the matching bibs to go on special the next year and pounced on them. Terrific abrasion resistance, tons of pockets, TRULY waterproof and very warm, what's not to like?
This past summer, after doing a little bit of research, I decided to buy the Browning Xpo parka and pants in camo. I ended up buying both items from SAIL (on their no tax day) for LESS than BP's parka-only, before-tax price...
http://www.cfra.com/news/2015/05/05/...r-kanata-storeQuote:
Bass Pro Shop says it has decided to scrap plans for a store in Kanata.
The outdoor retailer was slated to open in 2017 but a spokesperson confirms to CFRA that they are not moving forward with the project "at this time."
Bass Pro had planned a 120,000-square-foot store located at Highway 417 and Huntmar Drive, right across from the Canadian Tire Centre.
In November, rival chain Cabela's announced it will be opening a store in the same area, across from the Tanger Outlet Mall on Palladium.
We're becoming a saturated market here, especially with Cabela's slated to build now. No great loss, not getting a BassPro.
I wonder if it had somethoig to do with the Sens talking about moving to LeBreton Flats ?
