Yote pelts, Ottawa Area

Good Morning, Got a post in small game about what to do with coyote after shooting. Just to clarify, I have not shot one yet. I am kinda conflicted as I normally eat all I shoot. The coyotes are bad and I would like to take them out, would anyone at least use the pelts? I used to tan rabbits and raccoons as a kid. I found at least 8 deer carcasses in my hunt area on crown land. Other posters in small game forum have posted you can't waste the fur, and I don't want to waste anything if I don't have to. They really are bad.

Have you seen the market price for Coyote pelts,lately? You might want to skin them and sell them. A few of them could take a big bite out of the cost of your hunting for the next year as long as they're "prime" and not mangy or all shot up. There's lots of trappers on this site that give you all the info you need.

Skin them and treat them hang the pelts on the Garage wall.

You need to make yourself a fleshing beam, then buy a drawknife, push pins, tail puller, fleshing apron, and make yourself a couple of drying boards with belly wedges. Start putting up your own fur. The very best coyote pelts are taken in the Nov - mid January period, and right now they are worth a pile of money, for the amount of time you will invest in them. No sense in giving them to someone else, so they can make $55 - 75 ! Go to either the NAFA or Fur Harvesters site, and look up last year's prices for prime eastern pelts. Best if you can touch base with an area trapper who is good at putting up fur. Spend one hour with them, learning how to handle the fur.

Wow, thanks everyone, the first one or two I will give away. IF I manage to get any at all. Seen lots of tracks in Marlborough Forest this year, in area's where hikers would not be. Heading out saturday for muzzle loader to try and fill my buck tag and will check the track situation as well. Plan to start at end of BP season for yotes.

Would rifle shot coyotes bring in ok prices as well? Assuming there isn't a fist size hole (using .223)? Unfortunately I'm not a trapper and I'll have to either get mine tanned or give them to someone as I live in an apartment....something tells me they won't appreciate me fleshing coyotes in the parking lot lol

I often look for tanned pelts to make stuff from. When you're ready, keep me in mind. When I need them, I'd rather obtain hides locally than buy the ones imported from around the world.

Hbc has a coyote blanket for sale on the website worth $2500. I don't think a yote is worth anywhere near that but it just shows you can make some cool stuff

Hey line. Some great responses here. I've been doing small taxidermy since grade 9. Just recently have tanned a raccoon, deer hide and coyote pelt. I'm making some clothing. There are all kinds of uses for pelts. I don't cash anything in. I use them. Larger pelts make great seat covers for skidoo. Seat cushions for your blind. I'm making a Navaho deer skin rifle case. Frills and all. For my 3030. When we hook up I'll bring the coyote I tanned. It's very hard work but easy to learn. The more time you spend on it the better it is. Very rewarding. When we get that yote. I'll show ya. If you don't already know how.
