Hey Eastern Ont Guys....
Seen in today's flyers that the Canadian Tire Store in Kemptville is getting one of the 'Pro Shops'.. the CT store used to have a 'Marks' built into it, but they moved out to their own box store, so that inside space is going to be all Hunting and Fishing stuff later this year.
Good news, as the closest hunting store now is in Smith Falls. ( in never considered that 1 row of stuff in the old CT to be a hunting store:) )
Not that I live there but I find this a great thing for sportsmen. This is no doubt corporately endorsed so maybe we will see more of them pop up. CTC at one time was a big player in firearms sales. I remember buying my first 12g full choked pump there as a kid. Used to hunt everything with that 30" full choked beast.
Interesting to see the multitude of sporting goods stores we now have in the area competing for our dollars. The CT store in Kanata is pretty darn descent and the new Bass Pro will be directly next door. With Sail and Le Baron plus a few smaller shops I've never had it so good. All we are missing now is Cabelas!
When Cabelas opens this Spring in Barrie I will be 20 minutes from it and 20 minutes from Basspro. Also have a Sail store and a couple LeBarons to pick from. No wonder I can't save any money......
Reality is there are only so many manufactures of Hunting kit....so access to allot of stores means your seeing allot of the same stuff over and over. (Ameristep Blinds for example) Same idea as having a Staple's, Best Buy, and Future shop all together..same stuff.
The real bonus is the competition that it creates. Great for sales and of course 'price' matching.
I still find better deals thru eBay and on-line shopping....at least 50% off anything sold in Canada.
Nice thing about Canadian Tire is their price match policy. Cabelas had the Strikemaster Honda lite on sale for $569.99. Canadian Tire price is $699.99. Canadian Tire in Kanata price matched Cabelas sale price, plus they gave me $57 in Canadian Tire money (10% of the lower price)
if I had ordered from cabelas I would have also been charge an extra $45 heavy item shipping fee.
i love when CT prices things higher than their competition.
Agreed it is about time for CTC, I went to 2 stores in hunt club area and asked why the did not have guns like in Belleville (huge and hundreds of guns). The Merival rd location said they will not be stocking in any of the Ottawa locations. So Kemptville for me, I go to TSC stores lots anyways. As for BP, wait and see attitude for me, but it could produce more CTC Bucks for me as I price match everything at CTC. Last thing was mini propane latern that uses propance bottles, got $3.90 in CTC money....ice fishing gear...lol
Stopped by the Reno on Sunday, and the shop is going to be huge, and expected to done as advertised. The sports staff said they would be carring real guns too....
Canadiantire in Perth and Pembroke have also full "Pro Shop" stores. Lots of great gear and guns. this will be their third season already. A number of the stores are doing the move.
As mentioned its great to see them back in to it!
Had some business in Perth today so took a stroll into the local Canadian Tire at lunch time.. Nice sporting goods department with over 75 rifles and shotguns for sale in the cabinets. Some were even marked down! They did a really nice job of transforming a big box into something a bit more cozy.

They are only changing the stores that they feel have a market for hunting / fishing. The stores in the cities will never see this which is too bad. I can't stand the political correctness bullcrap.
Would be nice to see it in every store.

I was at the store this morning and peeked behind the curtain....no progress....just a huge open room.
Same thing I saw about a month ago Mike.
In their defence..the whole store is undergoing a remodelling, the poor manager is looking the worse for wear...every isle has been moved off, the floors redone and then everything is been reorganized...all while the store is 'Open for Business'...they are doing really well considering.
Update: They were letting us take a peek t0day, so I took a stroll thru....it's shaping up nicely..mind you, far too much space being given to fishing lures...I mean seriously, how different are they.. come on :)
An installer told me they were being pushed to finish this week...so it should be open 'officially' by Sat.
Going to be nice...like a mini Brass Pro in my own back yard.

I was at the Barrie store on the weekend because my buddy wanted to buy some .22. I was surprised they even sell 9mm and .357. They had quite a bit of products and a decent turkey product display. Sail is still my go to store though.
Barrie's had tons if hunting stuff (compared to Bradford and Newmarket) amazing what a 1/2 hour drive gets you...Quote:

There is now a hunting store in the old Co-Op in North Gower which isn't far from you.
Was in there today, looks like it's almost done, maybe 90% of the way there.
Huge selection of ammo, rifles are up behind the cash, mostly Savages and some shotguns as well.
Plenty of Browning camo clothing, but most of it was $200-$300+ from what I could see as I passed through.

I finally got to visit the Kemptville store today on my way to Winchester (town). Very nice layout and sort of like a small Sail store with a bit of everything. The prices were competitive and the hot lady behind the gun counter was very knowledgeable about the products. (Unfortunately married). Nice to see these regional stores pop up.

Good observation! The ugly old guy behind the counter went on break right after I took the picture and as I approached the counter. He was replaced by (lucky me) a cutie and we had a nice long conversation about firearms. I was too shy to take a picture of her..:silly:Quote:

Come to think of it, it's been open about 6 months now and I haven't bought a single thing in there....
My local CT has done nothing but piss me off. Between the prices on a lot of things and the staff I've gone elsewhere. The pics of your store look nice. Hopefully it's much better then my local one
