Once in a lifetime coyote hunt!!
Attachment 24065I had the most memorable day of coyote hunting ever! Got all set up in a field at 7:30 am and started the cottontail call and then went to a female howl. After 5 mins 2 coyotes show up. I kill the 1st one and the other one runs off. Another 3 or 4 minutes go by and it starts to bark. I howl again and the whole pack starts to respond and howl back. It sounded as if they were about a half a mike away. But then they started getting closer and closer. 2 mins go by and another coyote comes into the field and stares at my decoy. It gets to about 130 yards and the 243 rolls him. I then switch to coyote pup and I spot another coyote come in. He comes closer at about 70 yards. I drop him right there. Then I see another coyote that is sneaking in and he runs to his buddy laying on the ground and starts to smell him. His hair on his back was standing up. It was incredible. So I fire and he goes down almost ontop of his buddy! At this point I can't believe what just happened. So reload my gun and when I look up I see another coyote trying to circle around behind me to catch the wind. I bark at him and he stops at 150 yards and the 243 drops him! Now I'm thinking is this really happening?! So 10 minutes go by and I stop the caller. So I get up and start to walk behind me to start to gather all these dogs. When I get there and start dragging I look in front of me and at 287 yards(I ranged it) there was another coyote sitting up looking at either the decoy or all the other dead coyotes! So I lay down prone with the bipod and settle the crosshairs on his neck as he was staring right at me. I squeezed the trigger and heard that 75 gr just smack him so hard. He was dead before he hit the ground. He just fell right back! I couldn't believe it. 6 coyotes down. 6 came in and 6 dead dogs. It was my greatest coyote hunt! I will never forget this one! The foxpro really brought them in this morning!
