I'm getting ready to buy my first full matched kit of turkey hunting camo. So far i've just used a hodge podge of whatever is lying around from deer hunting parkas and shirts & pants i grab on sales.
What are you folks all using? What do you believe gets the best results? Anyone heard of new specialized camos designed only for turkey eyesight?

M, Turkey like Bear have keen eyesight, unlike Bear they dont have an equally keen sense of smell. Which is to say.
I wouldn't wear blaze ornage hunting bear, nor would I wear it hunting turkey. Movement and placement. If you want the best camo, solid black and a blind

I've sat along a tree line many a time during deer season in full Blaze Orange and had Turkeys pecking and walking 3' away from me....they never bat an eye....I don't think they interrupt the colour as out of the ordinary.Quote:

I agree with everything the other guys have said but if its a shopping spree you are after I like the mossy oak obsession pattern. Alot of bright greens in there that fit into the spring landscape. Thanks for stimulating the economy.
Use a blind and wear whatever you want. I've taken a number of new hunters/non hunters out and the blind helps conceal movement. Another bonus is that you can go out when it's raining.
My bro and I are having success (and tons of fun) with run'n'gun earlier in the season. We go out rain or shine, and just take peg sheet blinds for speed of set up and mobility.Quote:

A lot will depend upon when you get out and the type of year we are having. Early season when there is very little vegetation I have worn my MAX4 and as the season progresses I switch over to my Mossy Oak greens. It will also depend upon the woods you are hunting, I'm hunting hardwoods; but evergreens would mean green colours all the time. I have also started Run n' Gun'in for them, I will still set up on a field edge; but more and more I am in the bush, no blind, just natural cover, even along the edge I try to utilize what is there.
My favourite is Mossy Oak Obsession but it isn't always easy to find. No pun intended. lol! I also like Realtree APG for early season as it doesn't have as much green and would work well for fall turkey also. Another pattern I like and have used in Florida and Nebraska with success is Mossey Oak Break Up. Blends in pretty decent in most situations too.
The black can be effective for a blind but personally I wear camo when using a blind or not. The reason being is you always want a Plan B.
If your stuck in a blind and the birds have moved on you have the option to run and gun with your camo.
Good point mark... I agree with having camo on in the blind just for that reason!
Agree as well. Maybe instead of the reversible camo to blaze or camo to snow camo, they can come up with camo to black for this particular reason. Then everybody will need another situational specialty camo.Quote:

They've got good pattern breakup and great colour for our mixes of spring/fall deciduous and coniferous forests... an advantage if you do cramp up, or have a bird come out in an unexpected direction and you have to shift.
The mossy oak is pretty incredible... but if you twitch you're almost instantly visible.
any camo will work greens and browns and blacks will blend you in. Its all a matter of preferance in my eyes. like others said just watch how much your moving. You don't need a blind, i usually just put some brush in front of me so i could move my legs and call without been seen, and i sit against a big tree that covers my back for safety.
I have a leafy 3d suit from bass pro. But as others have said sitting still is key, camo not so much. I'm fairly certain I could smoke a bird wearing my hot pink yoga unitard.

Any waterproof camo will do it as long as you stay still. And when it comes to blind, well to me it's not necessary I like to move and seat on the ground.

Whatever camo you decide to buy make sure you bring some warmer clothes as well. Last season I got caught out in a camo sweater (it was really warm the previous day and warm all morning) when the temperature dropped and snow started to blast me in the face. I had to go take shelter in my Dad's blind. I don't know if its been mentioned but I would recommend some sort of face mask as well, I prefer a mask over paint for turkey season since you won't have to clean it off after the hunt.
The best Camo ( I personally think Camo is way overated) is what you were already doing....I never wear a matching suit....I always wear some Fall Camo Foilage mixed with some light greens on bottom or top ....your choice but I feel you will look less like a blob or clump that stands out if you mix it...thats what I have been doing since day one and I get them up close and personal.
To a large extent the camo designs are primarily about attracting the hunter/purchaser. IMO clothes in earth-tone colours, face and hands covered and limited/no movement and you will be fine.
I have 5 camo jackets of different weights (heavy, medium, light and 2 for rain) because over the course of the season I have hunted in near freezing all the way up to 30 degrees C. I buy for comfort and function, and don't care which camo pattern it is.
As for using a blind, it is not for me but I know a lot of hunters love them. I like to sit with my back to a big tree, legs stretched out, gun on my lap and savour the dawn and all that Mother Nature has to offer. I've had hawks land and sit on a branch 3 feet from my face, porcupines walk within 5 feet, hens root around within 10 feet. Every hunt is an experience worth enjoying.
That is the rights answer. Use a ground blind and don't move. Best camo and is free.Quote:
