Was wondering if someone can answer a question for me? If a friend only has a POL can I lend him a firearm? Thanks for your help.

yes you can...its possession...just cant purchase..i would get a note from the owner saying you have permission to borrow,in case you are stopped....
here is from the canadian firearms website:
Possession Only (POL)
The Possession Only Licence, which was introduced in 1998, was intended for people who already owned guns, and did not intend to acquire any firearms. This $10 licence allowed you to purchase ammunition and keep whatever non-restricted, restricted or prohibited firearms you already legally possessed and borrow other firearms of the same legal class. At present it is free to renew or get a new firearms licence, if you have ever had one in the past. POLs were only available prior to 2001, unless renewed before their expiry date.
now, what i dont know is are pol's even still legal anymore?
and you can also use a friends gun without a pol or pal,but the owner has to be in visible range at all times...
i got the answer,if your pol expires after january 1st 2004,you are eligable for renewal...
I read it as his grandfathers gun is the hardware store gun and it's worth more to him sentimentally than the book value of the rusty gun.
My God....We got a bunch of wanna-be beurocraps on here now......
We all should have known what he meant.
You can lend him one but you also have to be hunting with him while he is using it. He is not alound to take it home or use it with out you around as this falls under the PAL licence. I store my guns up north with my father inlaw, and he had a POL. In order for him to store them for me he had to ungrade his licence to a PAL. He was upgrading his to a PAL anyways so it work out ok. I can find the info online but it was brought up in the firearms course. Just tell you friend to upgrade to the PAL and the problems will be solved. I don't know if things changed now with LGR gone but it I would just play it safe now.
