Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon bowhunting

I am a new hunter and am trying to get into bow hunting. At present, I have a recurve hunting bow (Hoyt Buffalo). I have recently purchased a cottage in the Kawartha Lakes area (half way between Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon) and am looking to find somewhere to hunt near there. My property is small and not really suitable for hunting, so I'd like to find some acreage or crown land to hunt on. I am looking to get my PAL this year, but would really like to see if I can use my bow effectively as well. Any suggestions where I could go to give it my best shot?

Get in your vehicle, drive around and knock on doors. Get yourself some maps of the public land tracts that allow hunting and go from there. Legwork is your friend.

Yep. I agree with the above. The best way is to do research online to find public land, or knock on doors and get permission. This is a great forum to start though.

Welcome to the forum. You certainly came to right place and speaking of "right places",you couldn't have picked a better area to buy a cottage and use as a jumping off point for all kinds of great hunting and fishing action. Like terrierman41 said "legwork is your friend". Google Earth is also your best friend for scouting hunting areas that interest you from your computer. Once you find some spots,hop in the vehicle and do some touring and door knocking. Good luck and keep us posted.

generally,yes. Some public land is owned and/or operated by local Conservation Authorities that have land use restrictions in place. Finding them is simple by going onto their websites.

Join the local Legion hall, and get chatting with the locals. Be patient. Patience is your friend.

Can I join without being ex-forces? I am an airforce brat, but never in the forces personally.

thx. I am getting more comfortable with the crown land maps, and hope to use them for real soon. Looking forward to the spring!

Hey sounds like I'm just across the lake from you, new to hunting as well. If you want some company wandering around crown land or Kawartha highlands let me know. I am planning on a new recurve soon have sort of a toy for the time being and shotgun.
