Go to the farms and ask them... They won't come to you...no idea about public land there...
We stopped shooting fox about 10 years ago coyotes seem to kill them off when thy move in to a new area .dutch
He is on this forum...don\t think he take it too well if you hunted him though..He's a good hunter..watch out Fox
fox are really scarce around here, I saw one last week ,crossed our field . As long as he is healthy , I will leave him alone. Haven't shot one for quite a few years. Old 243
We shot two males so far this season and and saw two yesterday while yote hunting. They are scare but in our area there is a couple of small cedar bush lots with a lot of stumps that holds them. You can find them easier now with mating season. Look for their tracks crossing roads same as you would for yotes.
I saw one sunning himself on the south side of a hill while Turkey hunting on a farm near here.. tried to get close enough to take a bow shot.. got busted by 6 Geese that came flying overhead.. no shot but very cool to watch him sleeping in the sun ..
I shot one a month ago, had terrible mange, bald rat tail...really sad
Why would anyone hunt them if they are scarce ? Hunt coyotes instead !
I was recently hunting small game on crown land. I came across a trapper and we got to chatting. I told him I was hunting fox. He told me there were two in the entire area. He says the coyotes have pretty much gotten rid of all of them. I decided to switch to coyote. I'll let the foxes have a chance at repopulation.
Fox are breeding right now , myself I'd let them be nothing worse then seeing a female fox with a belly full of pups dead
Yeah, I leave foxes too.
Haven't seen a fox in years.. Didn't even know you could hunt them anymore.. Used to see them growing up all over the place.. Now.. Never..
Had a vixen raise a litter of pups for the last 5 or 6 years back behind my place, used to see her in the back yard hunting quite regular but she seems to have disappeared this winter no tracks in the back yard or in the cedar bush on the rabbit trails, I guess she either died of old age or the coyotes or a car got her. Saw 2 yesterday about half a mile away when I was out scouting for coyote/jack tracks. Coyote's have been pulling a few deer down around this area, found a big coyote killed doe last week behind my son's place, tough going for the deer there is a good 30" of snow in the bush
Seems like there are more fox then dogs in Sault Ste.Marie. We see them all over town. Funny thing is I hardly see any cats around town any more. One fox ducks under my fence and visits the kennel at night.
Each to his own but I don't take foxes I just enjoy watching them too much they have their own majesty; I could watch them for hours if they would hang around. I don't have an issue with others hunting them I just don't want to pull the trigger on one unless its sick or wounded. Strange but Yotes are a different story I have no issue taking them.
