Just curious what is on everyone's wish/shopping list for the off season? I'm always looking at decoys but don't really need any. Definitely going to be buying a snow cover for my layout and some white cover ups.

may at have to sell the 6x12 and buy a 7 x14 to hold all the gear ,

going to try a few dozen avian x decoys to the mix
thats about it
A robo and another doz mallard floaters
New layout blind (any suggestions?)
Just got a new shotgun case
Looking into another dozen bigfoots

- Rig Em Right Blind Bag
- Rig Em Right Dog Blind
- Rig Em Right Duck Straps
- Mojo Baby Mojo spinners (Hen and Drake)

That's about it, and about all I will probably be grabbing, work on the duck boat this summer.
Oh and going to grab a Goose Buster layout blind from Rogers Sporting Goods
Decoys and both camo and ammo for my wife's 20 gauge!
Would like a set of waders... If my wife.would let.me get another dog... Would do.. But she already said if I get anotber dog I can find my own place to live... Tempting
I'm throwing a crap ton more money at my layout tender this Summer. After hunting a full season with it, there's a few things that need to be changed.

Gbuck, I didn't even think of the Higdon, could very well be.
ABS pipes for building a duck hide that custom fits my boat, camo netting and a good set of snowshoes that are rated for my size and weight.
A new call, maybe some goose decoys if the right deal comes along
Yes I picked up 2 hidgons and have two of the lucky ducks goose flappers on order when they arrive in august ,
I used the hidgons last year a few hunts and they worked well jut have to keep them off to the side to the dog doesn't go running and take them out . Takes a little getting used to but they work ,
the new flappers from lucky duck look sick, I have two on order not cheap but I am sure they will work awesome .
Hmmmm might have to add one of those Lucky Duck flappers to the wish list.
Those Lucky Duck flappers do look pretty sweet!
I am looking to downsize my floater spread. I have some mallards, wood ducks, teal, bluebills and golden eyes that I'll putting on the "for sale" section as soon as I get them sorted. It is not a huge amount, but probably a couple of dozen that are surplus to my needs.
This summer I'll be looking to buy an over/under 20 gauge for grouse because my old single shot died last season :(
Mostly trying to offload stuff in prep for a move. Don't know for sure where yet, so don't know what gear I'll want for the new locale yet.
Canadianwaterfowl supplies , called pat a few weeks back and he said they would be in mid august, asked him to hold me 2
got the wife to say yes to a new browning maxus cant wait for my b day and then quack quack bang
So far I've added a few new duck calls, Avery ruff stand, 20ga o/u, and I bought a Momarsh boat! Should be a good fall!
May try and get a few more Bigfoots and Bigfoot shells. Would like to find some field duck decoys also. The goose flappers look kinda cool but at $200.00 per I don't know if they will be worked into the plan.
outback
just sealed the deal on a new to me jon boat this morning.... go to pick it up tomorrow... see what it needs, pull it apart , fix and paint.... then decide if i sell the other deep v in the barn...
want to get a A5
I picked up a Lucky Duck with remote and recently got a Mojo Dove as a birthday gift. I'd like (don't need) to get another half dozen duck decoys maybe magnums or something oversized. This will be my first year turkey hunting so my priority was to cover the basics for that.
Was recently offered a pretty good deal on a boat but with a house purchase in the not too distant future I've been getting cold feet.
A babysitter =)
I may have some floater ducks for sale later in the spring and a bunch of rig'm right decoy anchors:)
Huge tear in my waders last season, need new ones for sure. Also looking into a Pattern-master for my Remington 1187
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I usually buy some more "rig em right" droppers with the big clip to make up long lines. Used to always make up some homemade stuff, but since trying these the last few seasons they are the cats ! Makes me wonder why I waited so long to try them.
Easy this year for off season items
winter camo
another shotgun (because you can never have enough!)
wow I think I need a new job (or a second one) since you all are giving me too many ideas. with a wedding coming up I don't know if I will be able to buy anything or hunt at all......
if I can afford anything:
a new canoe with atleast trolling motor hopefully
a new gun (since my Mossberg is a POS lemon)
some field mallards
some goose silos
snow cover for the layout
Gas gas and more gas to find more birds for next season!!
haha not many guns or fishing gear to sell, and a minivan would be an upgrade lol!!
we've been together for 8 years; she has already reigned me in well (partially for my own good, but I wouldn't tell her that)...
kids on the other hand will be a short lived sacrifice, than I have someone at home to share my hobbies and carry my gear lol. that's what im telling myself for now!
All kidding aside your right :) I have 3 daughters.. Took one to the gun show with me on Sunday.. She doesn't care for guns.. But it was a day with my daughter.. My second daughter likes fishing with me.. Maybe the this will take up hunting.. And my son us only 2..,solo.. Who knows.
Hopefully a new Semi Shotgun...stuck with deciding between Beretta A300 Outlander, and the Winchester SX3 such a hard decision especially when the both fit as nice as the other.
Go with the Winchester sx3 you will love it , it is pretty much a maxus just a lot less,
i bought one 2 years ago and love it , hasn't jammed yet and it gets put threw the ringer
Factory blind for my Nucanoe, and a snow cover for one of my layouts. Got everything else I need!
ok i got a new old lady
the maxus in hunter ..
wow nice nice gun
but the front stock feels like it is paper thin i hope it holds up i will post pics soon
I picked up a few new crayfish lures and a Mag light LED flashlight 2D, beam is 388m they had a good price at La baron's for 25.00.
I plan to pick up some ammo in another week, just to stock up a bit. A box of 375 Winchester (damn that stuff is expensive), box 303, and some boxes of steel shot for ducks and geese next year. I always like to stock some ammo throughout the off season so I don't have to spend so much at once.
my new wip
That's way too pretty to lay in the bottom of a boat:)
Turk,
they are a nice truck! I picked up a super crew fx4 last week and love it!
Agree! I am on my second journey R/T from work, soon as they hit 60k they are in the shop constantly, had the 2013 fx4 supercrew for 3 weeks last year, had the 2014 for 23 days already this year, and have one now again for the past week with no eta on my journey coming back, I don't mind though :)
They are beauty trucks Nick no doubt, I worked with Toyota at the Cold Weather Test plant here in Timmins for 4 seasons my first year there the current generation of Tundra was just a rolling chasis and first year at cold test, my last year it went into production, was in love with that truck.
I'm getting a new BPS hunter....no girls needed new tap shoes.
Getting a new BLR pistol grip takedown in .308....no girls have 4 dance competitions this year.
I want some new clothing layers...only if they come in kids large or ladies small, are made of lycra & tulle and adorned with rhinestones or sequins.
I need a quad, sorry, dance dance dance.
I hear you Topher.
Sounds like those girls need a job! :)
On that note, whatever happened to kids going door to door to shovel driveways, cut grass, etc...
I made a KILLING as a young lad doing that, I'd hit every house on the block, hell every house in the subdivision.
We've owned this house for 4 years now, and never once had a knock to do the following.
FW, maybe you should take up that venture, lol have some extra "silent purchase" money as I like to call it.
Kids don't do that stuff anymore...I did when I was young...
Some say it's due to a change in society and Mommies no longer feel it is safe for little Johnny or Sally to go door-to-door...even school fund-raising kids are told not to go door-to-door. But I think it goes deeper than that...I never see kids (even teens of driving age) shoveling or cutting grass anymore. Is it a wonder kids won't apply for physical work when they won't do chorez around home?
I have a decent side gig with a friend, DJing and renting/operating Photobooths for weddings & events...seems somehow that gets bled dry pretty quickly too.
Kids ds these days would rather play video games, it is truly sad. I was the kid running up and down the street making 10 dollars a driveway . Got up at 3 am and started when I storm came threw,
now a days parents have every excuse in the book , and it's sad , video games don't teach kids responsability and work ethic.
The F150 I have been driving is the eco boost model, with the family and gear in it, and moderate passing, with the cruise set at 15 over (105 and 115) respectively as to where I was driving, I was getting between 12 / 13km /100L
Same mileage I get out of the journey, was impressed.
The new trucks are pretty sweet , I just bought a 2013 gmc serria crew cab with the 4.8 litre v8 flex fuel , It cost me 100 105 from empty and I get 1000 or more kilometres to a tank.
It is unreal , my old 03 silverado would get 400 to a tank and it was about 140 to full,
I researched the Tundra and the Titan when I was shopping. Many say the same thing. Read a few articles that stated both Toyota and Nissan have lagged in the V8 area because they haven't really redesigned thier V8 engines to keep up with the times.
Nissan is apparently going to offer redesigned Titans and Frontiers for 2015. I have a 2013 Frontier V6. Got a great price on it, and it's been an awesome mid size truck.
wow that's pretty sweet. I would love to see that kind of mileage. I can squeak about 600 out of mine in the warmer weather if I take it easy with my right foot and drive mostly highways. I think my tank is 90 L from empty. Everyday driving is about 500 and change. I had my computer re-flashed to change the timing and shift points that improved driveability and mileage.
2010 ram with the 5.7 hemi. put true dual exhast and headers on it a level kit and 33" AT's. rural driving I am getting 18 and 401 stuff I can push 21mpg. \
not bad for 400+ HP and 425ft torque. best truck i have ever had
Gonna buy. A 270.. Also maybe some decoys.. And an ofah membership this year as well. As a NFA and maybe CSSA.
Well I spoke with the powers to be (wife) today and she agreed, to graciously, let me have some of my bonus that comes in April to by the Goose Buster XL Layout blind.
And a form member was gracious enough to let me ship to his US address and go grab it, then I'll drive down and picker up :)
I've got this terrible itch for a new Ruger M77 African in .338 WinMag. Yukon Moose is on my bucket list and it could happen sooner than I think.
Well I've already made 2 purchases that weren't on my list....
Pair of Browning Dirty Bird insulated gloves in Mossy Oak Duckblind and a Tim Grounds Super Mag Poly Carb. Damn ebay! :D
You get a rough ride around here MojoS, I typically try not to join the angry mob..BUT... I'm calling B.S. on that milleage.
Your claim is light-years away from the posted milleage. I drive a 2013, 5.3L Sierra. The posted milleage is far better than the 4.8, and I don't come close to 1000km's a tank. I would guess your 4.8L is lucky to get 600km/tank (90L tank)
Big Jobber..... That was his mileage from the factory to the dealer on the car hauler... lol
The real question here is how many MPG?
One of the most subjective and often inflated figures out there. Lots of variables that not many take into consideration when figuring it out. On most pumps if I fill my truck until it clicks off I can easily squeeze another 5 to 10 litres into it. If I don't repeat the process every time I fill up and then start figuring out MPG my number will be way off. Fill it up right to the top one time and then fill it until it clicks off the next time and do my calculations on that my MPG is going to be higher than it really is.
With todays vehicles and on the on-board computer that calculates the average, is this still an issue? Sometimes I fill er to the Teets, others im in a rush and it clicks im gone.
So even though I don't have the extra 10 litres in there, my driving style hasn't changed, and my average consumption stays the same.
It was a joke. MPG in a country that measures distance in km and fuel in L ;)
I've never understood the use of L/100km here rather than just km/L. It's much easier to look at your odometre (see what I did there) and the gas pump and divide the two numbers.
BTW, my 2000 Silverado has gained 10% in fuel mileage over the course of its lifetime. The difference? A 16 year old was driving it when it was new, a 30 year old drives it now :)
ok. what is your height or weight in metric? god bless Trudeau for leaving us this bloody awful measurment mess LOLQuote:
It was a joke. MPG in a country that measures distance in km and fuel in L
Once when I was in university and working with my father, I tried to convince him that we should start using metric for his carpentry business.
Me: "So much easier when you can divide by ten Dad"
Dad: "What are the dimensions of an 8 foot 2 by 4 then, son?"
Me: " You win"
Since I helped de-rail this thread, I will attempt to get it back on course.
I would like to get a new boat this year. A have a 10 Jon, 12 foot Jon, 16 foot Canoe and an 11ft Marsh Rat.
I think it's finally time to upgrade to something a little bigger, little more powerful. Not getting any younger, so riding in a slightly more comfortably boat would be nice.
Not likely getting rid of any of the others though, lol... I like owning a fleet of boats.
TR an DR,
I'm old school. My 2000 Sierra doesn't have any of those fancy computers and in all honesty I really don't know what good mileage is when you talk L/100km. I reset my trip meter after I fill it up. Drive it until it's needs gas again and fill it up. Note the kms on the trip meter and multiply by .6, note the amount of litres it took to fill it and divide by 4.54 and then do the math from there to figure out MPG.
Dave
My fuel gauge (2000 Silverado) hasn't worked in about 8 years. For me, monitoring the odometer is a necessity. So I do the same as you except I don't have to multiply by 0.6 (since my US purchased truck reads in miles).
Funny my fuel gauge is on the way out....common problem with the sending unit in the tank. When I fill it up it goes to empty and reads low fuel then it will constantly bounce around. That's why I always reset the trip odometer because I know one day soon it's just going to stop working all together.
Gladly,
Town Avg - 11.8
Hwy Avg - 14.6
Rough Average Milleage (assumign equal hwy and city) = 13.2 L/100KM (I seriously doubt you will ever see this number)
103L @ 13.2L/100km's will get you about 780Km's. @ 90L = 680Km's.
I'm not trying to blow smoke here MojoS, I drive the same truck, with the more fuel efficient engine (5.3L 6 Sp Trans - Flex Fuel). I don't see 13.2. I see about 14L/100km's. My daily driving is a mix of Cty Rd (~90-100km/HR and HWY ~115km/hr)
Good for you for getting 103L in your tank. The posted capacity is 98.4L.
I might be asking my local gas station why I'm getting an 5 extra Litres in my tank. :scream:
Well my first tank of fuel I put in the truck it shows on the dash and it was 12.1l /100 Kms I got 850 Kms until I ran it dry out of fuel , second tank was 660 , all highway, I thought someone was wrong with my fuel gauge , I called the dealer where I purchased it , they gave me those numbers and they are pretty close , especially if you run highways and use cruise control. compared to my old 03 that would get 350 to 400 on a tank . I was amazed and very happy with the purchase ,
660Km's sounds about right MojoS. As I said, I have a 13 Sierra too, the 5.3L. Great truck. No complaints whatsoever thus far. I'm at just over 20,000Km's, and my Avg Consumption is just over 14L/100km. I'm guessing you will be closer to 15L/100 once you get a few tanks of fuel through it.
Once you start towing your trailer full of BigFoots you are going to see that number go up...way up....
Just curious, Why would you run yourself out of gas on purpose? Try that with a Diesel. :ninja:
Towing any trailer your consumption is going to change , I noticed that when towing my enclosed full of gear , burned threw a tank a lot faster ,
and I only ran the truck once out of fuel to see how many Kms I could get after the low fuel light came on , my buddy who has the exact same truck said he could get 60 Kms after the light came on. No way so I tried it , and not even close ,
and I would never run a diesel out of fuel , all the work trucks I run are deseil nothing worse than when that happens .
That'll be nice. Likely going for a V-hull?
As for the mud-rig, just throw a kicker mm on the larger jon you have. Then you'll have a backwater and big water combo between those 2 boats.
Buzz, while it might be a great squaw boat, I think he's looking for something that he can get dirty.
Actually DR, My old man has an 18 foot Northwin CC sitting on blocks. Just needs a new motor.
Doesn't necessarily need to be a deep-V, just something more sea-worthy than a 12 flat bottom.
I would love a 15hp LongShaft on my 12 Jon, the problem is simply running out of room in the boat. Leaving Decoys at home simply isn't an option.
Doesn't matter how big, or small... any boat of mine will be getting dirty.
I have a 09 Sierra 1500, (5 speed though) and the max I have been able to go on an empty light without running out of gas (highway speeds) is 62km, however, I ran out of gas once with the low fuel light being on for only 32km but I had turned off the truck done some shopping and she wouldn't restart. Lesson learned distance traveled on empty can vary by 30km lol.
Well I think you've seen the limits pushed on a 16' jon first hand, so you know what to expect ;)
got a new day pack with a 2L hydration bladder
