hey guys and gals my family and I will be camping at elora gorge all next week .anybody got any ideas what a guy can do with two teens besides the tube ride .what have thy got for fishing should I bring the boat ,any place to ride atvs .any shooting ranges or good gun shops in the area .looking for outside the box ideas ,thanks Dutch ps I should note that I am doing this for the wife as it is her family that has arranged the outing not exactly my idea .hahaha
20 km from a city of 120,000 people, so that'll give you an idea of the type of 'campers' that will be there.
Fishing can be ok in Belwood lake.
Boat not needed if you are fishing the Grand. Too shallow.
There are some trout streams 1/2 hour north of there. You might want to sneak off early some morning for a few hours.
I was just there last weekend. The tubing appears to be very popular there was liineups alll day. We tried to do some fishing but access is a bit tough due to the gorge, but there were lotsa guys down in the gorge fishing inside and outside the park. Supposedly good trout andd bass fishing, we didnt fish for very long and got nothing. The easiest place I found to access was in town. Also there are lots of scenic walking trails throughjout the area. Keep in mind there are special fishing regs.

For things to do.
Check out the Mill in elora if you want somewhere to go for a lunch or dinner. Theres some nice shops to browse and just west of the old mill theres a park/nature trail you and the kids can kill some time at.
If you head to Fergus there's the park on the eastside just out of town, and for the kids, between Elora and Fergus there's the quarry for swimming.
Its a beautiful area and the fishing is fantastic if your into flyfishing for Browns. Some nice B and Bs etc, etc. More of a get away destination for a couple to spend a weekend, than a family camping in the gorge imo
Seems to always be some fly fishing early mornings, family shore fishing below the lower bridge. Nice farmers' market in Elora on Saturday mornings. In addition to tubing there is zip lining from town. Nice, easy but scenic hiking trails.
you have Belwood and Conestoga, both part of the GRCA that you can boat in. Only issue, need to be aware that both of these lakes drop water levels throughout the summer. Depending on when you are planning to go, will depend on if it would be a good option. As for fishing in these lakes, hit or miss. There are some decent spots in both lakes, you could pull out bass, pike, or walleye.
Other things in the area, indoor gun range over in Waterloo, about 35mins away. Small range, as its indoors, but still able to shoot. Just need to bring your licence, guns, and your good to go.
On Saturdays there is the farmers market in St. Jacobs, about 35mins away.
Fishing, good rivers north of Elora, Arthur/Mount Forest area. Some good action for rainbows and browns, but to get to decent spots, you will be walking the rivers, so bring waders if this is something you want to try.
If your into fly fishing, the grand has some of the best, just remember to check out the regs as stated above, getting a ticket would put a damper on your holidays.
Elora, Fergus, St. Jacobs, all small picturesque kinds of towns. If you have never been in the area, worth while picking one of them, and walking through downtown to check out the shops.
One thing that may be of interest to you Dutch, is that there is a total alcohol ban in the park. I think they got tired of rescuing people that fell into the gorge late at night.
Alcohol: A Total Alcohol Ban is in effect for all dates throughout the season. This ban prohibits the possession or consumption of alcohol anywhere within the conservation area, including all registered campsites.

^If you're discreet, the ban is not a problem. But you sure can't walk around with a wobbly pop in your hand.
we always go canoeing on the grand, there are lots of outfitters that can rent you a canoe or kayak and drop you off at the section of river you want to do and you paddle down to where your car is parked. we like glen morris to paris after a good rain, smallies at the base of most rapids where it's deeper.
There is little so amusing than to watch the numerous campers -- who all recognize each other from the park -- trying not to recognize each other at the LCBO in town.Quote:
