fishing pals

this post may seem out of whack to some of you.but have any of you had trouble
finding pals to share your boat with. im not from canada but very close to it.i love
to fish,and hunt.deer mostly. but ive found it hard to find fishing partners that i
dont mind haveing around..i dont do drugs or drink and i personaly dont think
fishing or hunting is any place to be doing that. i live in an area where this is the
past time for most. i dont expect for anyone to pay for gas and such..just help me
load and unload the boat. i guess what i would like to find out is your opinions and if
this happens there as well.

Not so much for fishing, as I'm not huge into it, but I guess if I want to go fishing on a whim, I don't have that "one buddy" who will drop everything and come.

I moved around a lot growing up, for a good number of years, it was once every year. So I never had that "core group of friends"

As a result, I learned to be adaptable, and made friends quickly, but then it was onto the next city.

This became apparent later in life, time to pick a best man, time to pick a god father. I didn't have those "life long" friends to call up and ask. Just "aquintances"

My wife was born and raised here, so she has had her core since the beginning and I guess they became my core by default.

So to answer your question, I have the same issue, if I want to fish or hunt with someone local, I don't have that go to guy and often just go alone.

It's a problem for many,that there is no central meeting place for like minded individuals whether it be hunting or fishing or anything for that matter...most have friends at work that will go at times,but their life is just that and we have to respect the "family unit".
And with the ever increasing price of fuel,it plays a part in our hobbies....I sat at a launch site and watched as folks came and went for about 4-5 hours,and I was surprised how many fishermen fish alone granted some were just off work and heading out,while others travelled a distance just to go fishing for a few hours...I thought what they were after was ...solitude...a quiet time to regroup their thoughts if you will,while enjoying some activity

This forum is a good medium for meeting, I have met about a dozen members so far, it would be nice if some of you didn't live 900km away though lol.

Just for fun, I selected a location in Windsor and another in Thunder Bay, and got directions from one to the other. The distance was close to 1800 km if you don't have a passport! I then checked the distance from my place to Orlando FL, about 2000 km.
Ontario Out of Doors covers all of Ontario but also includes many friends from out of the province and even out of the country. Not surprising that you make friends on here yet you are further apart than an entire country in other parts of the world.
And that's what I like about Ontario!

Yeah, I thought of going up to Timmins and Chocrane a few times but you guy's are just so far away. I did get to Caprole this year and met with Sawbill.

But Timmins just seems to be out of reach.

Maybe it's time to start a new section where people looking for company for fishing or hunting can post. I's love to get out with someone fishing near my area and then take them out hunting for Turkeys, etc. It might be a good way to start networking with some other forum members.

Gw.. I keep planning on heading out to Russell/Ottawa area.. But been having family and time issues.. Maybe I'll come Sunday/Monday... Gotta see if my wife has Monday off...

This is really a great idea. My fishing partner(s) have always been my older brother and my father. Dad is getting older and seems our time on the water gets a little less every passing year. My brother is married with 3 kids so he rarely if ever gets to come out fishing with us anymore. Neither one of them hunt. I have a group for deer but spend alot of times in the woods by myself looking for rabbits and squirrels. If there was a section where we could post when and what game is being persued it would make finding someone to acccompany that much easier. Good idea man i like it!

Now that my friends have kids and my son is older and he wants to spend more time with his friends I have the same 'problem' finding responsible guys to get out fishing with (notice I said responsible) - my boat just sits on my drive way.

If anyone wants to go chase Salmon one weekend in late August or September give me a PM (sorry to the OP for jacking your thread LOL).

I have often used the criteria; would I be able to spend 3 hrs in a canoe with this guy before I'd be looking to stuff rocks in his pockets :) It's not always easy to find someone who you can enjoy your time with. I'm fortunate that I have two close buddies that I enjoy time on the lake with and being retired has the benefit of being able to go out anytime.

I'm also 'on call' for a few other guys who just need the 2nd set of hands at the boat launch. Short notice outings after dinner on a nice evening.

So far it's been a slow summer for fishing, haven't been out yet...but the canoe is ready !!!

lol that's what my wife calls them "bromances" and "man dates"

Get a dog . They don't argue or drink beer nor do drugs . My dog doesn't anyways . I couldn't afford to keep two of us in beer .

Careful with that one. Dogs can stab you in the back as quick as one of our town councillors. Buddy was telling me about the cops visiting his neighbor for a simple traffic accident across the road. Apparently this guys dog came running out of the house with a ziploc full of.......dill weed. Yeah that's it.

I have been lucky enough to hunt with a few members off this board and have met some great people and had some fun hunts.
My gf calls this site e-hunter.com and she thinks its hilarious i have met dudes off the internet, but its a great way to meet people with like minded interests, and atleast you can have a fairly good idea what theyre like from their posts.
A seperate forum area for this purpose is a good idea, but has been mentioned in the past and still hasnt happened.

Mans best friend... my a$%#

(was i wrong)
i took a guy i happened to meet at the store downtown..
we used to set and drink coffee and shoot the breaze
i took him fishing and it wasnt too bad. he was alittle
bit off ,but then arnt we all.so when hunting season came around
i invited him to go south and hunt with me. i picked up the tab.
all he needed was his gun ,cloths,and such.

everything started ok at first untill we got to our hotel
he was ripping his bed apart looking for bed bugs..i was like ok
well that isnt too wierd.then i ordered pizza because i had just drove
a couple hundred miles and was glad to be out of the truck. first
he complained there wasnt any hot peppers on his pizza..but he
didnt ask for any when i ordered it. then he borrowed the truck to
get something to drink,,he came back with a case of beer, now i
dont mind drinking setting around the motel..but i did ask that he not
drink while we hunted.the next morning i couldnt get him moving
because of the beer and pain pills he had took.
the second day we hunted till noon and came out of the woods
and we went to a store i knew that sold gormet deli meats and such
i picked up a couple pounds of in house smoked ham,and rolls some
chips and some soft drinks..he complained i didnt get any mustard.
we were in the store drive so i told him if he wanted mustard to go in and get it
so after we hunted that eavning i stopped to my ex brother in laws to visit
and my brother in law uses some rough language at times. my friend was upset
that my brother in law was swearing around his daughter. and at the motel
told me he didnt think it was right and that he was upset. i didnt know what to say
i couldnt tell a man in his own home to not swear, what could id do!

i decided to end the week long hunt, to a long weekend hunt,and come
home.on the way home he felt the need to tell me my 03 silverado was a pos

after we got home and i cooled off ,he came by one day to visit. i had to tell
him we were not compatable to be hunting and such..i speak to him ,but that
is all.

I fish lake Ontario a lot in the summer in the derby and you would be amazed how many guys I see fishing alone .nice boats all the gear an no one to share the fun .Dutch

My best friend and I grew up together in NB, he moved to Ontario about 8 years ago. He loves camping and we always camp together. He's not big on fishing but likes the occasional fish for a meal. He also doesn't hunt but likes to target shoot. When were camping we now bring are own canoes and canoe around together. He doesn't care much for hunting but might start hunting grouse this year he like to call them "Tasty little birds" :).

My wife calls him my other spouse. The two of us have built trucks together, camp, hike etc. We don't have all the same interests but we work around it and it's a trade off. I trust this guy with my life since we were kids. We don't have all the same interests but we make trade off.

I have also met and hunted or fished with a few fellas off this site and all were great people we just live a great distance apart.

One of the most notable who I met and he took us out fishing this summer was a retired CO up above Sudbury, my budy caught his first Walleye. Another fella I met outside of Ottawa is a from the USA down. I use this forum to network and learn (and also argue about Politects ;) ).

There are lot's of opportunities on this site to go fishing and hunting with other people.

Sometimes finding someone to "fit" in your group takes awhile. My best friend and I are still looking for someone to join us on our camping trips and we have yet to find someone.

Teach your kids and have q fishing partner for life....- also spend a good portion of the time in tangling their lines...
I found it plays role reversal as well.. My dad used to untangle my lines.. Tie my knots.. And now.. He's stubborn and won't check his eyes.. And since he can't see fishing line.. It is boe my job..
