15 day solo canoe trip
It has been a very busy Spring/Summer and it was high time
to make the northern pilgrimage.
this would be a unpaid leave from work.
id choose to return to a familiar area but to access from
a different angle. was very curious about a small group of rivers
leading to some quality Walleye lakes. figured id either line or portage
any of the craziness i might come across
unbelievably, i didnt even wet a line for all the river travel
and there were endless pools, no doubt full of fish.!
had to cover water and both the weather/ river were most uninviting. lol
have to start with this pic because it seems to capture the general
mood of the weather. gotta just make the most of what Mother Nature
gives.

13 out of the 15 days it rained at some point. sometimes epically lol
def makes one really appreciate the sun when it did make its
appearance.
with the 700km portage in the dodge neon completed i can now start the
paddling portion of trip. by no means remote by Ontario standards, but
bein solo one gets a good sense of the vastness of the land especially the
lightly travelled sections of these rivers.
there would be 24 portages (thankfully none too lengthy) cause all had to
be triple backed. first day in was gorgeous. warm, sunny and a gentle breeze.

second day things changed dramatically. temperature dropped down to 5
degrees and the weatherman mentioned rain in excess of 60mm.

on my way home i like to gather berries and enjoy some of the other
geography Ontario has to offer. around here the rivers run cold and clear. (leech
free zone lol) many great spots to car camp and some of the roadside lakes contain
specs.

That's a wet trip. That is a great spiderweb photo.
-
Awesome pics! I must say however, the pics of the fish in the pan was/is downright cruel and unusual torment! You didn't mention where this trip took place?
-
Awesome and well done!
I've never done a solo trip of that length, must be quite an amazing experience.
Did you do a loop or in and out the same route?
Love the sunny day eye pick!
-
thanks guys.!
trip took place SW of Timmins, and it was a loop.
-
Once again .... a great read and great pictures. Thanks for posting .
-
An undertaking from start to finish full of soggy and boggy hours. Good on ya Adipose for sticking it out and making a great solo memory for yourself. Solid pics too dood!
-
Other than all the rain it looks like you made out fine. Thanks for the pics.
-
Awesome pictures! looks like a great time, your 13 days of rain out of 15, sums up our summer up here :)
-
Thanks for sharing another one of your epic journeys , reading them gives me inspiration to do a big trip one of these years ( probably not solo the though , I would bring my dog :) )
-
It's been a long time since I've done one of those, your story/pics bought back some good memories for me....thanks.
It should be a baseline experience to be able to call yourself an outdoorsman. Nicely done.
-
thanks again fellas.
ya Moose, no matter the weather.....
whenever iam in the bush, i ain’t ever pullin out of a trip
gotta make the most of it.
in retrospect, might even say it was more of an intimate experience
in that one is a bit more ‘in it’ ‘out there’ :D
was good too to keep the mosquitos down and
made higher water levels in some of the small creeks
id paddled where previous yrs i had to do some dragging
and mud walkin. lol:whacked:
thanks for compliment Mike.
iam still learning/in training to try and get things right
-
WOW, beautiful, silent solice. On your own against nature. Did you pack a gun?...lots of bear up in that area. Seen the food barrel, did you hang in the trees at night? What a trip.
-
Soooo so jealous right now!
-
thanks line0052.
i take pepper spray, bear bangers and bells.
the barrel was put up in the trees only once
as all the sites i was on didnt have any suitable.
ones to hang from.
-
You're proof that adventure outweighs the comforts we take for granted. Thanks for sharing the story and the pictures of the trip.
