Range day and slugs.... :)
I had a bit of time on my hands so decided to do a little target practicing. I wanted to try a few different slugs through my Mossberg 500 rifled barrel…
I started off with a cheaper slug (1st shot) just to get it on paper from 45yds out…
Shot #1 and 2 (Remington AccuTip) almost touching but a little off center so adjusted the scope which gave me shot #3 and 4 almost touching too…..
Took the target out to 75yds and took shots #5, 6 and 7 producing a 2.5” group…. Not bad…..

Left the target out at the 75 yd mark and took 5 shots (Winchester Dual Bond) which produced about a 5” group….

Looking through my ammo box I noticed a few challenger slugs and Winchester super X slugs… Not the best choice for a rifle barrel but figure I would give it a try anyway….
I took 3 shots at 40 yds with the challenger slugs through my Mossberg 500 rifled barrel and It produced a 4” group….

I had a box of Winchester Super X rifled slugs and thought I give them a try and see how they do through the Mossberg 500 rifled barrel….
I took my target out to 75yds and took 4 shots producing a nice tight 3” group….Very impressed with the cheaper priced slugs…

I wanted to take one last shot (Win super X)at a closer range just to see where it would hit and it came in dead center…

Since most of my shots for deer/bear should be under 50 yds I think the Winchester Super X 2 ¾” rifled slugs will do just fine for now....
When and if I get a chance (more time and money) I plan to try a few more slug types just to see what they can produce....
Happy Shooting... :)
