Was out scouting and came across a patch of these in an overgrown field. They were growin on a thorny little plant only about a foot or two big, the were growing real close to the ground. The apple looking thing was very hard and had a lemony sour taste. I know i shouldnt have tasted it not knowing what it was but.

Any quince I've seen grew on a tree, similar to an apple tree.
Be helpful to see the skin side as well.
Looks and sounds like Quince. A pic of a leaf from the tree would help but it could be a crab apple from the UK, they have thorns and could have been planted by an immigrant looking to start a farm.
No it wasnt pear shaped, and the skin light green. the thorny little tree/bush was only about 1-2 ft and the fruit was growin near the ground, really puzzles me because it was just in a small area and no where else it noticed. I never seen this before.
Wish we had a wild edibles board...
A gatherer's section: That's where I'd answer this question, pics of the plant would be helpful though.
Ontario Out of Doors SHOULD include wild edibles right? Hunting, fishing, gathering.
A section like that would help us all, at some time or another.

Our neighbor has three bush quince, they are not always pear shaped , some are like squat apples [flattened ].Quote:

I believe you are right about the quince, but what i dont undertand is they were growin alomost on the ground. it tasted sour like a lemon but juicy, i guess not ripe yet. I will definately good back and check the ripeness in a couple weeks.
Quince are definitely not sweet.
