I'm starting to get pumped! Moose season is upon us - where is everyone going this year?
I'm making my annual trip up to 19 - our group has a Bull and a Cow tag - heading up on the 18th of October. Last year we were successful in harvesting cows, and I've just run out of meat. I can't wait to get some more meat in the freezer.

Our large party of 3 is hunting for the first time in WMU 50 lol. No high expectation on a calf other then having fun with small game & fishing for the week...anyone know how decent is the upland birds in that area? send me a pm

Our group is taking a complete pass this year. I'm to the point where making the investment in time and money without a cow and bull tag doesn't seem worth it. We will have enough P1 to pretty well guarantee that next year so it's no moose hunt this year. I will use that vacation time chasing woodcock instead.
I was thinking about going this same approach and use the time to bow hunt deer.....but since its my first year and unfamilair with the camp and guys I have decided a week away is a week away and there will be fish and birds to be had as well so in hind sight I am hoping its worth the money to get my foot inthe door...a better read for the land and meet the guys I hope to share many seasons to come with. Stories, hunting, food and a few drinks once the rifles are away what more can ye ask for.

The way this camp runs is you can buy in and become a member and have full access to using the camp etc for other vacations and atving as well. 8 of us heading for WMU 16C on Sept 19th for a week and then will hunt for a week in October in WMU 56
hunting my backyard in 48 for archery calf... at least deer is open at the same time... lol
3 days with about 7 guys in 54. We got a cow tag this year. After 10 or so dry years the past about 4 have been successful. Its amazing what a blow down and logging can do for a moose hunt :)
WMU49 for a Bull. Got a three year old hanging around about 300m from camp all summer.
My group of 10 will be hunting in and around my back yard (wmu 56) for calves for the second year in a row the worst part is between us we own over 1200 acres with good populations of moose but can't even get a tag very frustrating i will b spending some of the week with my bow looking for my big buck or possibly a bear if I still have my tag then
Send em over to 54. I'll be waiting :)

Most units allow a calf for every tag although increasingly there are units where even calfs are now on the lottery system too. So, you have to apply for either a bull or cow in a specific unit and the tag is only good in that unit. If not successful you can take a calf. It's only going to get more restrictive shortly.Quote:

as mentioned when you purchase a license you get a calf tag, but in certain wmu's, 48 being one of them, you need to apply for a calf tag as well... so i have to choose, between, applying for bull, cow or calf, and archery is another set of tags to, so 6 choices, just in my one wmu... i wasnt even gonna apply for a tag this year, but then i saw that if you draw a calf tag, it dosent take you out of pool 1 status so i did that...Quote:

Headed up second week of archery to WMU #22. 8 of us 1 bull and 2 cow tags.
we are going up to WMU 22 , north of Wawa... unfortunately we lost one of our gang member in February and only four
will be hunting Moose... we have a Bull and Cow tag...the member who passed away had a hunt of his life time at 66yrs...posting

Pickle lake 12 guys 5 tags one being in Ignace in case we want to change areas later on in the week. My brother-in-law lucked out into this group after 3 guys cancelled last Friday and left us hanging we had a bull and cow tag for 21a...their loss not ours. for the member going on his own from Ottawa if i knew all the guys in this group i would invite you to stay at our camp we are heading out on Oct 9th from Toronto's surrounding areas.
We're heading to area 26 in a couple weeks for our first fly in. 6 of us going with air cochrane. Hunting for cows this year.

12B. Heading up tomorrow night. Feel bad for you southern folk who have to make the haul up here with no adult tags. I have noticed a decline in hunters this year, which to be honest I'm not going to complain about it. I kinda like not hunting in a pumpkin patch.
Going to actually get a few days to hunt with the camp in 49. For a while I thought it wasnt going to happen. Cant wait until the 20th! We've got a bull tag.
I'm heading out next Thursday night to make the 15hr drive! I love this time of year :) :)
