I think that getting insurance is not possible, so I would call around before you purchase.
Since you can't get insurance for them, you can't get a plate for them so they can't leave your property.
I own two Big Reds. One (86) needs refurbishing, but my 82 is use almost everyday around the farm. Great machines.

There was a decent looking one on here for last week out of Hamilton I believe. Check the for sale section.
Geesh Mike that ol gal looks awesome . It's been some years since I had one but OFAH used to insure mine .

Ya, you can't plate or insure them because they are so easy to roll and hurt yourself, but they are light and can get into some tight areas to pull deer out. If you don't plan on riding public trails I think you could get one.
Really, do some research and don't believe everything you read. My son has one, got it plated and insured legally. We spent last weekend driving around the bush trails north of North Bay, stopped by OPP and they had no problem with it when he pulled out his paperwork.
Buddy of mine insures his with Allstate.
thanks guys, i,ll call my ins. agent today.
I find this real hard to believe...I've owned and driven 3 wheelers for over 20 yrs and belong to forums with guys who do the same....NO one has ever been able to get insurance on them.
One guy claims to have figured it out...he got insurance calling it a 3 wheel motorcycle.
But remember that even if you happen to get past that hurdle.....as an ORV...a 3 wheeler will not be able to drive on any provincial road....as they must have 4 wheels.Quote:
Yes, but there is a technical aspect about ATC's that is under review.
An three wheeler is an All Terain Cycle.
An four wheeler is a All Terain Vehicle.
The term Cycle confuses many enforcement officers and some employed
by the MTO to this day.
But by definition an ORV (Off Road VEHICLE (A vehicle under the MTO means Anything with four or more wheels. Car to truck to transport.)) has a class of ATV within it. An ATV falls under the four wheeled Rules.
Now an ATC (All Terain Cycle) is an ORC (say what? An Off Road Cycle).
This is where the laws are bent. It looks like an ATV but infact it's classified as a type of Motocycle under the MTO. This means that fron insurence to registration, your ATC is a Two wheeled Motocycle. NOT AN ATV!
With this bend in the law, you can use your ORC (ATC) as you would an ORM.
I have been pulled over many times by the police and just handed them one of my spare copies of the Rules and Regs. Plus this type of Argumentative point on paper. After a more interesting and educational chat with them (and a few "Can I try riding it" times) they apologise and continue on with their day.

Regulation 316/03
Application: Reg 316/03 applies to the operation of ATVs on
highways.
ATV is a class of off-road vehicle narrowly defined as:
having 4 low pressure bearing tires (10 psi) in continuos contact with the ground;
steered by handlebar;
having a straddle seat; and
is designed for driver only and no passengers.
Bear reaches over and gives Mike Pal a cuff .:scream:;) Have you tried OFAH ? . I know we trappers got insurance for our 3 wheelers through them . I think it cost me 84 bucks , It's not a stand alone policy and they want your car etc, too but they did insure and may still do and that was within the last 20 years . Anyways hand me over that Big Red . ;) Has it got reverse ?

A friend has three of them all plated and insured last time we talked about it, a 200m a 200x and a big red, I'm pretty sure they are all insured with State Farm, I'm going for a beer tonight with him and I'll ask him, they stopped making them cause their dangerous ! I'm pretty sure I pass by three or four crack houses on the way to work that the police most likely know are there but worry about an atv?
State farm had no issues insuring mine......
They are 100% insurable.
S.
Pretty sure you can insure anything if you are willing to pay.
Nobody in our neck of the woods would insure one. A buddy who is an insurance broker couldn't find anyone either.
Yup..that's what I was told...once the government deemed them 'unsafe' back in 98 (?) no insurance company would insure them...for obvious reasons.
I guess if you had insurance prior to that and never let your policy lapse, they may have been grandfather in with your policy...but I have never heard of a company providing new insurance for a vehicle that is classed as 'unsafe'....but maybe State Farm does.
I haven't touched anything OFAH other than this site that they took over , since the backroom deal they made over the cancellation of the spring bear hunt . Don't get me started Mike . LOL;) But yes through the OFMF and OFAH we insured three wheelers . My sled was $80 and bike was $84 at the time . My own insurance broker Stan Darling didn't want to touch it at the time unless I paid $600 so you know which way I went right ? lol You as a farmer can likely get something too maybe through OFA . Well maybe not you because your a badass , but bet your wife can . :p:D Just hand over the slip to that mint Big Red and I'll have it plated and insured the next day .;) Actually alot never had formal ownerships in the day till you registered them yourself . Just a bill of sale . :tongue:
