Muzzle loading moose.
Hello all. Well I'm off moose hunting in a couple of weeks and I'm taking dad's 54 cal Hawkins . every moose I ever shot with my 300 win mag has been under 30 yards. Let's hope this year they are not out there at 500 yards. I'm bringing a buddy's 300 for back up. Seeing I traded my 300 for a nice 40 cal flintlock. So i hope to post pictures of a 60 inch bull with the Hawkins. So darn excited. Wish me luck. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...b13f6d5838.jpg

If you've worked up a load the gun likes and can free hand a shot to 50 yrs, you should have no problems.
Will you be shooting patch and ball or a conical ?
-
Patched ball. Getting great groups at 100 yards. With 100 great of goex.
-
Shot conical s in my 45 and wasn't a fan. Like the patched ball.

Our group now hunts moose mostly with muzzle loaders due to tag availability. We do use modern smokeless Savages though. Your 54 will do the job if you do yours.

Good luck! Be sure to show us photos.

Oh don't worry I plan on it. Lol casting some balls in the am then off to the range.
