Is there any such thing as per above in the subject line.....im looking for crown land in areas I hunt......thanks
http://www.ontario.ca/environment-an...e-policy-atlas, little work and you'll get used to program, quite nice actually, ton of data there. Hope this helps.
oh wow......I found the area I am interested in but cant seem to find any info other the concession, lot and township
I've also been looking I'm going to try that site also thanks!
Ive been looking at it and cant figure it out.....
I just tried it and it seems to be normal, but even slower. Sometimes you think it's not working Set the map layers, click on the legend tab, zoom in with your mouse wheel and there you go. Not a true topo map as it doesn't provide elevations but handy for sure.
Cheers
My combo is: Crown land, Google satellite and then the Canadian topo site. Between the three I can get some sense for what the cover is like. Then it's time for a drive and maybe a walk.
If you use this:
http://www.giscoeapp.lrc.gov.on.ca/w...er/viewer.html
And zoom in far enough the contour lines and elevations are shown.
Normally I use the crown land mapper first to find my potential area. Than I switch to the above link to get the topo.
I also suggest the BackRoad Maps I use it extensively, probably the most important map I have ever purchased.
Some on here think that you must be a hunter 24-7 365. Crown Land owned by all...From what I have read on this site , if you are not there before the crack of dawn, 2 weeks in advance, you should not hunt there! Most hunters I know, do not have a couple of weeks during the year, before the season to scout out where they want to go. Work all year , get 2 weeks to hunt, look at a map, go there. They have the same rights
to hunt that area as locals or regulars, who scout the area 12 months of the year. Not your land , not your deer! I have been confronted before on public land and backed off. That will never happen again , as I had-have as much right on-in that area as he- they do. A hunter had set up a stand on crown land for about 5 years and was upset that others walked through "his" spot... Ps. it is only 250 acres of Crown Land in that spot. It is 300 yards from my dock, Not small-big, enough to call your own. His for life ..why? We have talked and he said he- it was OK for me to hunt there AFTER he had got his bear and deer. This was-is the last year that I will let him control the only crown land within 20 miles. My stand will go up in April, and I will be there first. Can't wait to see if he checks with me before he hunts. Shoe on other foot anyone? Want hunting land for life...buy it!
Well, they choose this kind of life, we didn't, so if they don't like it they can move. Most hunters I know with this kind of life, have a camp somewhere, they won't take two weeks of vacation to waste them. You don't just find a spot and seat there hoping fr the best.
You can use all the crown you want but don't go in the trails that other maintains for decades. We spend days to clean up blow down pretty much every years so I'm not too sure how it will go if you come up from nowhere, drive your bike thru it, install your tree stand and show up every day of the deer hunt.
Regarding, that bear hunter that own that crown beside your cottage, I would not worry about it at all. Leave his spot alone and use the other side of the land.
In NB if you post that you plan to hunt that spot, then you legally cannot hunt there or you would actually be charged with interfering with someone else hunt. Essentially what you are implying is that you specifically look for areas where someone has setup because your to lazy to find your own spot. Lot's of crown to share and find your own spot. Don't be lazy. I would suggest you and your friends are just that lazy use you vacation time to scout or Saturday's or Sunday's even take the kid's. That's what most people do.
Well gw you are So wrong once again.
A hunter who Hog, s Crown land by setting up a stand and leaving it commits an offence under the Public lands act.21 days and your supposed to take that stand down.Citing ethics to get your Own selfish WA Y don't cut it homey.
If you choose to clean up trails on Crown land you also might be breaking a few laws.Crown land is for everbody, don't like that, buy your own private spot.
[QUOTE=greatwhite;831540]Also you don't need a stand up to show you are hunting somepleace. I realize being a Liberal you lack ethics. Probably why your friends stopped hunting with you. Probably why nobody wants to hunt with you. Your a deceiving little man.[/QUOTE
Now now Great white you know there are rules about name calling, I think you need time out in the corner or a good liberal spanking.
Back to the topic people......thanks
MITIG forestry also has a crown land map for the Parry sound/bracebridge areas and Pembroke and Temagami. Here is a link: http://www.mitig.com/

You should stop making up what the fish and wildlife rules are in other provinces, especially if you have never hunted there.
You know because of people like you and ITD and FisherMcann I rarely take a new person out to show them crown land they can hunt. I use to show a number of people. But ever since you 3 stated it's fine to take a persons spot on crown when you know it is actively hunted. I now take 2 maybe 3 out of the 10 - 20 requests I get a year. Maybe you should try and take people out. Oh yeah your party left you they couldn't stand you any more. Hmmm I wonder why? ;)

There is no doubt your Mr Wonderful.
Back on topic.
Why shouldn't an inquiry into mapping sites turn into an attack on members who are not even participating in a thread?

You're not capable of winning an argument with yourself, let alone someone who can string 3 words together.
I beg to differ I rarely loose on here.
I probably do less complaining on here then any of you 4. The only time I see you on here is to troll.
If you check the threads in the hunting section you will notice I participate very often. Rarely do I see you do anything other any of you out trolling.
Have you ever actually offered helpful advice on here?
Gilroy has almost never. ITD occasionally in the fishing section, fisherMcann very little, think I seen a post or two. You almost nothing. But I will admit you are pretty good at trolling.

No doubt.
I've gone to the ministry website and it's hard to figure out how it works. There are places on the map but not enough info for this guy.
He must of been Italian, or Serbian, Croatian or one of those war torn eastern European people lol. I would set up a stand right beside him just for spite. Hahaha hahaha
KickinFrong and Gilroy will give you help.
Guys who want to bash each other... take it to off-topic. Keep it over there with the political bashing. It does *almost* no good here... someone could figure out the true worth of someone's advice, but that person would have to be around for years and follow every single user name to really know. Personally, I can't be bothered to track all the user names and individual comments they have made over the months and years.
As for the question on crown land maps... Unless I'm missing something, I haven't found "crown land maps" and "topo maps" in the same tool. The "Crown Land Use Policy Atlas" is essentially complete... although I've personally come upon gated access to mine claims, marked private property that doesn't appear greyed out, and road closure signs in areas with policies listing access.
http://www.ontario.ca/environment-an...e-policy-atlas
NRCAN puts out the Atlas of Canada, with online access to the Toporama topographical maps... which can be downloaded in various formats for personal use.

Some guys here use this tool... Gmap4 mapping tool... combines multiple map sources, lets you bounce between satellite, street map, multiple topo maps...

Just because someone has a different opinion or disagrees with you doesn't make them a troll. I'll let others decide what is or isn't trolling and who's doing it.
You are louder then most, but that doesn't mean you are "winning", it doesn't even mean you are right. You play one note and that makes it easy to be tuned out.
Again do you think you wil actually contribute to the site besides trolling the Off Topic area. Actually I am right not just louder. You accused me of throwing this thread off topic. If you had actually read the thread it was FisherMcann who did, I was making a contribution. But I'm guessing you just are here to troll.
Same note. Thank you for the contribution. Again, I'll leave it to others, who's opinion people respect, to judge trolls.
As to actually reading this thread, if you were capable of that you would note that I offered something before you, once again took it sideways.
Hunting ethics are subjective and very personal to each hunter. Imagine these two situations:
(1) Fishermccann heads into that section of Crown land after the other hunter has set up and begun hunting for the year.
(2) Fishermccann heads into that section of Crown land LONG BEFORE the season, cuts some shooting lanes, sets up a treestand, and is there long before daylight on opening morning.
Is Fishermccann being ethical in both situations? More ethical in one than the other?
My personal thoughts: Situation 1 demonstrates unethical hunting behaviour. Situation 2 does not, at least not to the same degree. Just because someone has hunted an area for the last several years does not grant them exclusive access to that Crown land in perpetuity. There has to be some element of "first come, first served", given the limited availability of Crown land.
I guess maybe in Southern Ontario crown is limited. But as soon as you leave there is lot's even around Ottawa there is lot's and much more in less then a 2 hour drive. Head towards Pembrook, Arnpiror etc land is almost limitedless. So there really isn't a reason to overlap.
Yeah, I'm originally from northern Ontario where we never have this problem, unless it's a 5 year old forest cut that gets flooded with moose hunters. It can be really frustrating to find unused Crown land here in parts of southern Ontario.
Wondering if I can get some help/clarification on online map, thearea's I’m looking at is off highway 36 near Bobcaygeon it’s coming up as P26Provincial Park Natural Environment and G343 General Use area. My question ison the Backroads Mapbook Bancroft Crownland map these area’s show as crown landso if I was to scout/hunt in both area which one would be the one to choose???.The online map is ok but I find it can be confusing.
I have been using Garmin basecamp, ibycus topo and looking land layout with google earth
Just found this related article about public land hunting. It's specific to waterfowling, but lists some good tips.

Great read at 6am, thanks for the laughs! :D
On topic, the crown land viewer was mentioned. Depending on the area you're hunting I don't think its 100% accurate as I've found some places around Haliburton that are private but show up as weird classifications by the viewer. Same goes with the backroad maps. Always double check the area you're hunting if you're not 100% sure.
