2014 deer
well, never made it out with the bow for deer in the early season, but monday morning i was out and about with the rifle. crunchy snow made for poor still hunting conditions, pushed a couple deer around, but all i saw was white flags. back to the same spot the next day, pouring rain made for better still hunting, but no deer to be seen in the area, but did see a large bull moose, walking through the cut over, snuck down to within 30 yds of him, before he saw me and took off into the bush, couple minutes later i herd a cow calling, assuming for him to come back to her, never saw her though. went back wednesday morning, hunted the same spot, but didnt see much sign of anything fresh, went back to my truck and took a leak beside it, as im standing there i see a white flag going bouncing down the logging roadm so i zipped up and went to inspect, but it was down wind of me so figured my chances were slim. then i see to more flags go up running through the brush, and one of them has antlers, i had my scope on him, but didnt have a good enough shot to pull the trigger so went and tried to sneak up to where they ran, but as i said they were downwind. decided to sit in my tree stand that night, got in it around 2.30 and settle in, dozed off a couple times i will admit lol, so its about 10 minutes after 5, and had no action, hadnt herd any movement in the bush or nothing, so i decided i would call it a night, i flipped my shooting railing up, and just went to standup when i seen movement, right in front of me... CRAP... looking at me... but she didnt see me i guess cause she kept walking towards me, i went to shoulder my rifle, but it rubbed against the stand and made noise... CRAP looking at me... but she still hadnt seen my i guess, and walked forward a few more steps, and stopped with her head behind a tree, haveing a perfect shot at her now, i shouldered it, and proceded to put one into her shoulder, and she dropped on the spot. i dont normally shoot does, i prefer to let them breed, but this was a good sized doe, plus i had passed on her last year, she didnt have any fawns last year, and again i got no pics of fawns this year, so thinking she may have bin past her prime anyhow, so didnt feal so bad about taking her. going back out tomorrow morning with a old fella up the road, he had a storke a couple years ago, so hasnt gotton out hunting much, i told him i would take him back to where i seen the buck, and see if i cant push it out to him, but other then that i guess im done for the year :( but that was another reason i decided not to wait for a buck this year, is i got so much on the go, finding too much time for hunting has bin hard.

That's a nice big doe. I had the same issue with the conditions. Really had to change things up as my usual spots were barren of even a track. As gor the miserable look... not much for getting my picture taken either.

thanks for the comments
so got out with the old fella this morning, frsh snow made things perfect! i set him up at the base of a hill where i have seen the deer have bin bedding at the top, i then went back to the start of the logging cut and slowly made my way through it. lots of fresh tracks in the snow. so as i came to the top of the hill i was on high alert. and then a buck jumps up 20 yds in front of me from under a tree... scared the beejesus out of me haha. by the time i got the rifle up, he already had too many trees between us, but he was heading right for john, which put a smile on my face... unfornutaly i herd no shot ring off... followed the bucks tracks, and i guess he winded john and turned away and ran a different direction, passing just out of his sight... i repositioned john, at the other end of the cut and started tracking the buck, but he of course headed for the thick stuff, and that was pretty much the end of it... so at least i got him out for a bit, hopefully get another opportunity next week... maybe this time the buck wont catch me flat footed ,lol
