Good luck!!!
it should be great the next week or so ,I seen 9 deer this evening two good bucks following a group of does .thy were moving early tonight must be the change in weather .problem I have is the does are not bedding in the same spot as the bucks and I am not sure how to get between them with out blowing one or the other out .I have been watching these two bucks for a while now and am slowly getting a plan in place just have to get the right wind to make something happen ,anyway good luck to you Dutch
Been hunting 93 a the past couple weeks and haven't seen much of anything, think it will get better when the corn around me comes off.. Hopefully
thy are pulling the corn down here as fast as thy can right now in 90b .Dutch
Iam in 93. Not much going on for me. Last week during the shotgun had some friends shoot a couple nice bucks in the mornings. Hopefully this weekend it will happen.
Good luck. get some good practice time in with that new bow so you are ready and confident when the moment arrives.
This will be my first hunt Saturday as well in 93a with my new Ex-Exococet. Saw a few doe's last weekend but no bucks. Can anyone recommend a butcher in the Wyoming /Petrolia area to cut and wrap deer ?
One big six point came strolling out perfectly broadside around 830am, unfortunately he was 70-80 yards away....back in the blind again this morning.
Don't think tonys does it in wyo anymore. Dresden meat packers does a good job. I've been using the butcher from davey jones in Sarnia. Does it out of his garage.
The sit this morning nearly gave me a heart attack & I lost my buck fever virginity. At first light heard rustling to my right for about 3-4 minutes; you know the sound squirels that sound like deer make. Well, I determined these weren't in fact squirels because for the first time in my life (second season bow hunting) i physically heard a buck grunting. Heart rate immediately sky rockets. After about a minute it goes quiet and then I notice a doe jet out about fifty yads in front of me..10 seconds later I thought I was dreaming but out comes probably the biggest buck I'll probably ever see in my life. Giant 8 point perfect symmetry, big dark brown and mature. I raise my crossbow and try a grunt to get him to stop. .although he did stop, the combination of little day light (yes it was legal shooting hours) + this deer being 40-45 yards away + my heart beating out of my chest and not being very steady I had to let him go.. so off he ran chasing his doe. The most exciting experience yet in the woods by far and a buck I'll never forget. Hopefully he is still around in a few weekends when I return.
Just about smacked on with my van this morning on my way into work... Starting to move a lot more now.
You made the right call on not taking the shot. You still took away a little more "deer knowledge" than you went out with and had a great experience. Here's to hoping next time he's closer and stops for a few seconds.
One thing I've noticed in the past is that when you make a grunt/bleat to stop them, you have to do it louder than you would think to get his attention. They don't seem to hear so well when they're on the move. Same as it is for us when we're walking to the stand and then have to stop to listen because we hear something.
Went out for a few hours late morning early afternoon and didn't see a thing. My goal was to get out early this morning but my muffler came off my truck as I was leaving. :( Got the parts and fixed it myself and off i went. Those squirrels are tricky little buggers and had about a dozen of them around me. I did happen to notice a least five eagles at the conservation area flying around the small lake. I pulled over and tried to get some pictures with my phone but they turned out like crap. Nice to see them around and doing well.
Sat morn had a doe around for 20 min but no bucks seen yet, had a fox come through chasing some squirrels
The guy does it out of his house as a side job. Davey jones does a decent job as well.
