has anyone been out calling coyotes yet? any luck?
Haven't been out yet but soon.
I shot a big male last weekend. He was chasing a red female in the middle of the day, so that leads me to believe they are getting more active with the cold front.
Plan on heading out over the next week or so...
ill be heading out to my farmers friend in the crysler area to see what i can do
Soon, as its beginning to be an exciting time of year... :)
Good luck to all
Seeing a lot of fresh tracks in the snow. Group of 4 travelling together on one property
In King City here, cottage in Coldwater area....if anyone is looking for a new hunter to accompany them, I'd be interested.....New hunter here, as is my 16 year old son.
Soon just waiting for friends to decide what they are doing or just go on a road trip to were O go deer hunting. I know there is lots there.
Saw an interesting clip on using dogs as decoys for yotes. The guys trains them ,to in gauge them and bring them in if they hang up out of range. Brent
Been out twice so far after this snow in haldimand region. Shot a red female coming into mouth distress call 70 yards.
Tracks everywhere down here
DID a visual drive around some hot spots this AM..........saw nothing

I went out this morning and called for about 40min. guess they thought the 22.250 didn't look to friendly because nothing showed up. haha
I havnt been out, Mostly because most of my spots have people deer hunting on them still. -14 this morning and light breeze....Would of sure liked to be out there.
Two so far. Buck calls seemed to be magic.
I've seen a bunch. Synthetic Doe urine will make them follow you in. I learned that while deer hunting. Bucks don't like the fake stuff but coyote do
There was a "Furtakers" episode where the guys used decoy dogs, seemed like a neat idea,
Cant wait to get out and try my hand at some predator hunting.
I recently moved and the local farmers have mentioned that there is an abundance of coyotes in the area. Plus i hear them howling at night. I was wondering what does everyone do with the furs. Sell them or keep them? If sell them then where?
Would like to try my luck at this type of hunting.
We have a trapper guy that on his way up to north bay auctions stops by and picks up our fur. He sends them in and we usually get a check by april-may. We have got as much as $50 per coyote hide......That is stretched, combed and prepped. A lot of work, But it helps pay for dog food for the hounds.
All depends on the year, we have got pennies for some hides not in the best shape.....Should be a good year for fur prices I think......
I found them to make good targets when deer hunting. We saw several during our controlled muzzle loader hunt, so I finally decided to put the smack down on one. This is the result of smokeless powder and a PR Bullet .40 cal 260 grain bullet at a hundred yards.
Was deer hunting my 40 acre apple orchard the other morning and seen a coyote chasing a small doe.. But the coyote made one bad mistake.. She stop in my shooting lane about 30 yrds out.. One less female coyote in the Mount Hope area ;) Only thing is I skinned her but don't have a fleshing knife... does anyone know of anyone that takes coyote pelts? She was a nice color and very clean looking with a nice white belly. If anyone knows of someone that takes the coyote pelt please let me know thanks One Shot..
What would a coyote den look like if you came across it? Always seem to hear tons in the area and I'd like to knock a few off if I knew where they were based out of
Coyotes only use their dens after mating to have their young, it could be anything, a hole dug into a bank , under root stumps , under piles of trees /brush pushed into a fence line .
After the pups are born they often move their dens , and after the pups are weaned they will usually sleep anywhere were there is some type of cover , fence lines under low branched evergreens even deserted barns , we have also found them sleeping under round hay bales that are placed in rows , where they can get between them.
The Black Bear hunt is over in this area on Sunday evening,so,out come the centerfires and the blaze orange goes into the backpack for Monday morning. We saw a good number of Coyotes during the Deer hunt. This should be a good year. Hopefully, the pelts are in good condition and the prices stay decent.
Lisa of coyote tracks here... interestingly the tracks went to a carrot pile.... seemed like the coyote was eating carrots? No rabbit tracks around... just coyote...
After next weeks b/p hunt is over.
Does anyone use a home made predator call.. As far as I can see most calls you can buy are just loud speakers that hookup too mp3 players.. If I was too download some calls onto my mp3 player and hook it up too a very loud speaker would it work just as good as a store bought one? Anyone know or use there own speaker and mp3 calls? Thanks One Shot
I made one a few years back with the help from varmint al... In-fact I killed my very first coyote with it....
