Grandson and I sighted in out MLs yesterday. I have never seen such bad fouling . I've normally been able to get 12 to 20 shots with the Encore, without significant fouling. Yesterday, after 8 shots, the crud ring was so bad, I could not seat the bullet on the powder. [double tap discharge] I was shooting cci muzzle loader primers[first time using these], White hot powder and PR bullets. Any ideas out the as to why the bad fouling? Wade in! Cheers, Jim

Not sure but I know with GOEX, if it's humid out it will foul worse than on drier days. I tend to clean after every shot so for me it would be a moot point. As for the crud ring, that primer may have something to do with it??? When I shoot my Omega I can only get two shots off before the crud ring calls the day when using T7.

I shoot BH209 with Federal 209A primers. My barrel looks the same inside with 5 shots as it does with 10. I have shot 12 times without cleaning and without changing the point of impact.

Swabing between shots has become part of the load procedure for me as well. It only takes just a few seconds and eliminates the crud ring build up.Quote:

I just opened up a box of Remington KleanBore primers the last day out on the range....so I will see how they compare the next time out.
I've not used the WhiteHots....so I do not know how they compare to T7, but I'm sure you'll find a huge improvement if you 'spit' wipe the barrel between shots.
Crud ring never happens with bh209. No cleaning between shots and just use Hoppes to clean up.Quote:

Their worthy looking for Jim...I just came in from shooting x24 Keith Nose with T7....the KleanBores work terrific, no blow by and the spent primers came out easily. I pulled the breech plug after 12 shots and the vent was not obstructed, very little crud on the plug threads. I like them, very easy clean up !!!Quote:

HA- With BH209 there is not enough crud to build a ring. The barrel looks just as dirty with 3 shots as it does with 15. It is not as corrosive as anything else that I've used. This is why I don't shoot or hunt with a clean barrel anymore. Went to the range the day before our hunt and fired 2 shots. Shot a deer 1st day, another the 3rd day and finished with a 3rd deer on the 4th day and a 100 yard coyote a few minutes later. Cleaned with Ed's red after the hunt. With T7, I could not get a second sabot down and had to clean after shooting. When I was using T7 and Pyrodex, I sighted in for a clean barrel. Switched to BH209 and changed my thinking to sighting in for my 2cd + shots, the same as for my 308 and 30/30.
After about 10 shots I usually use my eezy-breech to clean the flash channel and flash hole. I don't remove the plug for this. My Kodiak would get hang fires if I did not do this. I was also using Winchester primers before I learned not to.
