Had an expensive shimano spinner snap off similar. A dud is bound to happen every now and then. The guy at shimano even said "can you say for sure you never stepped on it or anything?" as he handed me the replacement. Crap happens.

Couldn't imagine that happening with a 50+inch fish on the other end,lol.You handled it well considering.And that excitement is why we fish.lol

I think that would be a rare occurrence with those reels.

Went and bought a Calcutta B that day. Can't afford to be worrying about tackle when a 50 bites.

Ive never had that specific problem, however I did have the bail arm break on 6 month old Abu spinning Reel once. Very disappointing. Since then I have put pflueger reels on all my rods and haven't had a problem.

I personally don't think Abu Garcia reels are the best. I'm probably going to catch flack for that.

Did they fix it?

doesn't surprise me. That looks like ambass. reel, Revo are low profile BC of which all mine went in for pea guide replacement as it would pile the line on one side of the spool. Quantum scared me off some 20 yrs ago but today I am pleased with the PT series reels.

I had an okuma Convector snap off last year while a fellow was fighting a big Salmon.

When it happened we just looked at each other and started to laugh.

I gave him the reel as a momento!
