I need new boots.. I am looking for a pair of quality general use hunting boots.
Prefer 600-800gr thinsulate.
Not a fan of rubber boots.. use then for stomping through EVERYTHING.. rivers, snow, mud etc...
Uhh also use then for ice fishing.. but that's not really a deciding factor(don't fish often)
What are your suggestions? I've gone through to many boots recently.. my last pair lasted a hunt.

nothing can beat bare feet, but if your not as badass as me
fill a garbage bag full of feathers and step in with normal shoe, make sure no feathers are under shoe. tie and ur good to go till u see feathers in your footprints... double or triple bag if necessary.

they are not insulated but i got the WIDE version to fit thick socks maybe even double sock it.

I started wearing these last year http://www.kenetrek.com/Kenetrek-Mou...s/products/12/. They aren't cheap but are they are some of the best boots I have ever owned. Don't go by the price on the website, I know people that have found them as cheap as $350.
I treat mine with http://www.obenaufs.com/heavy-duty-lp/ and they are as close to rubber as I have ever had for being waterproof.
I spent the early part of my career in mineral exploration in northern Canada so I have gone through my share of boots and I wish I would have had these back then.
I have owned Danner Pronghorns, Irish Setter Elk Trackers, Vasque's and countless other boots. The only boots I own or have owned that come close to the Kennetrek's are my Russell's. A couple of the pro dog trainers and guides I know that make their living on their feet swear by their Kennetrek's.

I think you need to ask what type of application do you intend on using them. I hunt alot of property where I have to cross a river to get to my stands so I wear the neoprene type rubber boot 18" high. With the new sport chassis and form fitted ankle area they are quite comfortable to wear all day. I have two pairs of lacrosse one with no insl. the other with 800 grams and if needed in really cold weather I just throw a set of the toe warmers from CT in them (never an issue easy to repair and 4 years going strong).
I have a pair of Rocky Arctic Bear Claw 3D. 10 years going strong. I'll buy that boot again if the same quality in craftsmanship is there. But its a 1400g boot!
I have Rocky Blizzard Stalkers and they're a great warm waterproof boot (1200 grams Thinsulate I believe), but alas, even Rocky is made in China now. I've had my boots for several years and they seem to be holding up however they also haven't been used that much.Quote:

As usual, you ask for boot suggestions, you're going to get a range of responses.
If you narrow down what you're going to be doing, then it's easier to frame a response.
Stand hunting, in sub 0 Deg temps, you're probably going to want a pac boot, with lots of room, and insulation.
Still hunting / stalking in the same, you're going to want a lace up, with a decent amount of Thinsulate, and a waterproof outer, or treated leather.
Walking up, stalking game and doing lots of Kms, lighter weight, leather upper, full lace.
There is no "one good boot" that is going to satisfy all requirements.
Several very good manufacturers out there. I'm personally a fan of Danners, but I also like some of the boots that Rocky makes.
I probably own more pairs of boots than I should ( probably from being in the Army), but I have learned that taking care of your feet makes the difference between a bad day and a good day.
I have not had a pair of rubber boots last more than one year (Cabelas brand and LaCrosse), but I do a lot of scouting durring the off season. I have two pairs of Danners, one pair for at least 5 years, and they show very little wear.
So, not meaning to jack this trhead but if anyone has had good experience with some long lasting rubber boots I would be glad to hear about it as I look for a new pair.
For rubber boots I have had good success with Bogs.

Danner Canadians look real nice.. but out of price range.. the elk tracker are as well... but not by as much.
Perhaps look at a decent uninsulated boot, that's sturdy, and will travel for miles. You can always tailor your socks to fit the conditions, rather than relying on a boot to do it.Quote:

Picked up a pair of danner east ridge.. seem real comfy... see if they pass the torture test....
