I have a feeling BryanG from First Ice Brookies was fishing in our area.... Our small lakes are ice covered but I haven't been on any yet... The big lakes that have wave action are still open in places.
thanks pat. keep us up to date if you can.
I've been out for brookies caught 9 all released. I wouldn't say "get on the ice it's safe" but if you know the lake then it might be an option. I'm talking just south of bancroft
Just talked to a former neighbor in the area around McArthurs Mills/Bolter. 4" of ice on Norway Bay.
Good info. That is the area I'm talking about. What kinda depths in Norway Bay?
I've heard you can pull some nice Pike out of the ice at Norway?
I have a cottage in the area and was thinking of heading up for some Brookies in the next week or two?
Yesterday I had the tractor (4000 lbs) down by our "launch ramp" and pressed down on the ice with the bucket but couldn't break it. I then drove out so the front wheels were on the ice and tried again with the same result so I pulled further out. When the rear wheels got out to about one foot of depth they broke thru.....3" of ice AT THAT SPOT.
Just lowered the bucket and pushed myself out....
We have had about 4-6" of dry powdery snow come down but it's going to warm up by Sunday so the snow will be slippery. At this point you can drive pretty well any trail in 4wd with no problem. I will probably put the chains on my bike today...

Some of the stocked speck lakes are good
Nice haul
how is the snow in the bush and on the trails. i have a trail i want to go up with a snowmobile, not too far, just to get to my place. I'm thinking this coming weekend...are the conditions ok for a snowmobile?
Loosing snow right now with rain coming, but it will turn cold again We'd night and stay cold over the weekend. Probably drive a 1/2 ton easier than a sled.
Some lakes are what i would call "okay" while most are open or a no go wait till after christmas they aint going no where :)
There was 6" of ice in front of my cottage yesterday.
I saw guys out on Robinson lake just south of bancroft. Didn't go out myself as I was trying to fill a tag.
there was snow in the bush but I wouldn't run my snowmobile through it. Atv was good in the bush this past weekend.
We saw a bunch of people on Robinson lake on Saturday.

Raining here right now........ snow is going but going to go down below in the double digits later in the week. if the snow stays away the ice will thicken fast!!
Robinson eh....... was by thre the other day but didn't see a thing happening there...... wonder if they got any lakers???
Robinson gets a lot of pressure cause its easy access. I know guys that go a whole year without a laker and a few perch. I fish it winter and summer but it's a tough fish. Easy access though with kids. I have never caught a laker there. I did hear that back in the day it was a great laker lake.
That little lake across from Robinson is full of panfish, also stocked with rainbow or splake, can't remember which.
Ice is getting better for next five-six days....double digit lows at night.
what is the latest guys, re. Ice and snow conditions? or are we much the same as a week ago?
I think that this weekend looks very good, seeing quad and sled tracks on a few lakes....
Looking for the latest again guys. Really appreciate the info. Thinking of coming up just before the new year and have to make a short crossing. how is the snow to?
Its warming up here..... we currently have a misty rain coming down and themps are on the rise, but that being said its going to get cold again next week...........

Still some guys out on the ice chasing fish.... some out with sleds and ATV's but still a bit early for my liking when it comes to the sled.
By New Years Eve the lakes are going to be glare ice. Probably not enough snow for sleds, but go anywhere with a bike and tire chains..
I was on Adams on dec 19 and ice was not great. Bound to be worse with all the rain and mild weather. I'll be waiting till a good cold snap to go out again....
Should be good to go by Tuesday. Minus 18-20 at night....
I butchered a deer today that has been hanging outside for two weeks. A lot of it was still frozen....Still ice in my driveway and snow in the bush.
I've watched fish come out of Adams, but never had the privilege myself....
How's the snow situation up there right now? Is the any on the ground after this rain??
We had about an inch of snow come down today. Yesterday and today have both been bitterly cold and windy. Minus 10-17 at night all this week. Highs of minus 8-10 during the days.
Anyone have an update of Bancroft ice? I'm looking at smaller lakes SE of town... Hoping to go tomorrow with the kids.
your good to go for most. I saw kids on Marble on may way to town. L'amble still had open water. Spring and Robinson were frozen. I didn't try anywhere though. I wanted to go back to back lakes off turiff.
Ya, back off of Turiff is the area we're thinking of heading. Maybe I'll plan something for tomorrow.
There may be ice on the roads, but there is no snow to speak of. Should be able to drive to the lakes. With the cold and wind I think its time to put the chains on the Sportsman...
Calling for rain on Sunday, maybe
Two sleds through Jack's last night boys. Check your ice. Last word was riders were unaccounted for. Pop Up - Huts on the hard water in Haliburton yesterday.
NK FF's and OPP just reporting snowmobilers that went thru Jack's last night have been found safe.
Was out on Adam's yesterday, 5-6" ice on the north eastern part, walked out maybe 40' furthest point still 5" ice, no open water. Didn't catch a thing though, tried everything from worms to grubs to spoons. First time on this lake so I don't know the lay of the land, hopefully someone will chime in. We trekked in from the 118 on a ATV trail, quite rutted (not bad by any stretch)the walk out was fun (not really). If you go hopefully you will have better luck than us, beautiful spot though.
We either fish right off the steep rocky shore on the north side, or over near the outlet in the SW corner. Getting up that first hill on the way out can be a challenge....The sun melts the snow, freezes to ice.....
Woke up this morning to about 3" of fresh snow:rolleyes:Holy Cow, it worked! My first picture....
how is the snow now? i assume ice is doing very well now and this week is going to be COLD. Anyone going out on bigger water yet? Going to Baptiste this weekend.
We didn't get the thaw that they predicted so there is still 6" of snow. (Monday noon) It might get as warm during the day as minus 9 later on this week so nothing will be melting before the weekend.
Thanks Pat. Any word on Baptiste lake from the Marina to around Blueberry Island?
