I want to attend, but it's quite a hike from my neck of the woods. I hope to attend one in the future, hopefully a little closer to the NCR. It should be pretty interesting.
Anyone else going to this ?
To bad they didn't have one in Kemptville.
A bit far for me...
A little too far for me as well, but would of loved to go. Would like it if one was a little closer at one point!!
One of the ranges here was hosting 2 sessions but I can't make either of them. Would have been great to go to. Perhaps a web session is on order.
Great turnout today for the elmwood workshop , I'd say close to 100 people , The presentation from Brent Patterson was very good the tracking collar data he has collected is very interesting , good talk on hound chasing coyotes , Adrain hare on calling coyotes , a girl from the beef producers explaining predation numbers and compensation data , trappermatt on coyote fur handling and coyote fur and the MNR on issues related to coyote hunting , great job OFAH on this workshop
If anyone in the Ottawa region is willing to help, Adrian can head over for a seminar in February. One club is trying to make something happen, but we need to spread the word.

Way more guys into it now, coyotes are being pushed hard this season.
I will do some emailing to see if we can generate enough interest in this area. I would like to go.
There were some workshops held recently that were out of reach for many people from the Ottawa region. I asked OFAH about setting one in the future. Here's the response from OFAH.
Quote:
The recent coyote workshops hosted by the OFAH were made possible through funding provided by OMAFRA. Considering the high attendance and success of these events, the OFAH will be considering hosting more events throughout Ontario in the future. Any workshops would need to be budgeted for and approved by the OFAH Board of Directors. This means that the earliest a workshop could occur is in 2016. I will make a note of your request for a workshop in the Ottawa region for consideration when future workshops are discussed.
To answer your questions…
- The more interest the better to ensure a high attendance for maximum information dispersal.
- The OFAH was contacted by an individual just outside of Renfrew with interest in a coyote workshop. We have not received any other requests from the Ottawa region.
- At this time there are no workshops planned for 2015, the OFAH will be sure to make our members aware (email, magazine, social media, etc.) of any workshops and/or opportunity to gain knowledge and experience about wildlife topics in Ontario, including future coyote workshops.
Thank you for contacting your Federation, I hope this has answered your questions, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Yours in conservation,

Something to keep in mind for those who are interested.
I've gotten word from the OFAH that there is a workshop scheduled for January 30 in Caledon and on February 6 in Perth.
Quote:
There is a Coyote Workshop planned for February 6 in Perth at the Royal Canadian Legion. I know this is still a little ways away from Ottawa but this area was recommended based on coyote depredation issues/compensation statistics.

We deal with the police every winter with calls about hunters with guns on roads.
Everybody has a cellphone and the police get called out because we're crossing roads with guns or people see guns and aren't comfortable with it.
We have trespassing issues with hounds chasing coyotes on property we don't have permission to be on and it's usually resolved by being polite and respectful or just letting the dogs work there way through property to be caught.
We have had two incidents with animal rights groups following us and both times cops were called out by us and resolved quickly and another time resolved by a well placed mud puddle that the anti were standing next too.
I understand the hounds part with trespassing while chasing game, but the animal activists need to read up on this stuff.

I went to Perth this weekend for the workshop. I'm glad I did. It was very informative. I won't re-hash the presentation here, but I'll say this. I look forward trying a distressed turkey/pheasant/woodpecker call and decoy by the treeline of a field. I don't know why I'd never thought of that.
