With all the fun of renovations continuing and an entire house in need of drywall I haven't had much time in the dungeon thus far. I finally had enough time tonight to put the finishing touches on my buck from the 2014 season. I do think I need to design a longer plaque...... and get a bigger dungeon, the addition of a jointer, planer and table saw have left things cramped.
Well you could deliver me the firewood I see in the background to give you some more room . Mount looks good .

I always like that look better.....nicley done.
I make my plaques using side (angle) cuts of hardwood trees. Leave the bark on and it looks great. I had buddy give me a 8' log from a 8"-10" apple tree a few years back and I cut a whack of 1.5" slabs for future mounts...cheap and they look really nice with a light stain.

Oaknut, did you do it yourself or farm it out? I did mine myself and it was a learning process for sure... I have mine hanging in the shed for now until I figure out where his permanent home will be. I don't plan on using a plaque, though.

Im out at the inlaws now and can't see the picture. Wiil check it out when I get home. I do all the antler work myself. Euros, skullcaps, velvet caps and have done a few sets of sheds too. I get a few guys bringing sets by to get done too. Went a little different route with this one and cut the time to completion in less than half.Quote:

I've got to get my partners deer done this was as well. He just wounded it and when we finally tracked him down, I planted one between the eyes before he could get back up. Is it still slated as a Euro or will it be a cap? If too many peices are not lost a good glue can hold the puzzle together. I have had a couple where too much bone was gone to piece it together. In that case I will trim around the antler base a bit and carve away a piece of Cedar or Basswood to mount the antlers to, I do the same for the cast antlers. It takes some fiddling to get it right.Quote:

It will be a cap. Good tip on the glue. Hadn't thought that far ahead. It's still frozen out in the shed. Maybe next week I'll boil it and clean it. I can work on it inside then.
I like the the plaques with the shelf on them. I've never seen them done that way before. I think that's what I'll do with his.
