First Pheasant Hunt

Got the computer working temporarily - hopefully long enough to post these pictures. Great day at Bird's Eye View on Monday with the dog. Me and my buddy went together and paid for 8 birds. We missed one and one must've flown off before we got to it but as we were walking across the field to take another run at some different cover Jake's nose caught the wind and his head snapped to the left and he ran about 40 yards into the bush - emerging with a crippled hen that must've been shot and never found on the weekend. I dispatched her quickly and we ended up with 7 birds. Great first time! It was a lot of excitement for Jake and made me realize after a long hunting season we need to get back on track with training as his steadiness was an issue early on in the hunt. All in all a good day with a good dog and good friend.

I love the looks of that dog. Sure you can't teach him to point? Yeah Birdseye is fun but you need to set aside an hour after to remove burrs. really bad for that. Good job.

Oh jeez look at all those stickers. Haha, it never fails I end up having to pull burrs even when my dog runs in an open grass park.

His ears are still awful. Been brushing and putting the mane and tail to it but not to much avail. He's never got them like this before

Scissors buddy. Ear hairs grow back quickly he will look goof for a couple of days. Better getting them all with scissors then Jake getting burr tongue.

we were there on Saturday. Had a great day. We left behind two pheasants out of 9 birds put out. Looks like you may have gotton one of ours although I only remember shooting and missing a rooster and not a hen. What a coincidence. Glad you had a good time.

Well, hunting season's always good for that. Tough to keep them steady when you're hunting given that you can't handle the dog and shoot at the same time.

Re the ears I find keeping them trimmed and using a wire curry comb works pretty good. I crush the burrs and then comb them out. The longer the ear hair is the harder it's going to be.

this was one of the deciding factors for me when picking a breed, the burrs in the long hair.
