Penn & Teller certainly have a way with words. I used to enjoy that show a lot.
Good visual
Pretty simple really.. But I will admit when my kids were young and getting the first set of shots my wife and I were a little apprehensive from hearing some of the stuff going on in relation to vaccines.
There is an Ottawa daycare that is promising a "vaccine-free environment" for kids, and that public health is not to happy about it. I simply replied "is Jenny McCarthy the CEO?" :)
Another good one I saw and agreed with.
"What's that?
My son can't bring a peanut butter sandwhich to school because someone might be allergic?
But... Your unvaccinated child can bring:
Chicken Pox
Whooping Cough
Measles
Mumps"
Everyone who has any doubt about the effectiveness of vaccines needs to watch this video. The media are trying to whip up a sensationalist view with editorial fearmongering to sell papers and advertising. It's absolutely irresponsible and ,in virtually all cases, feeding into the ignorance of a gullible public. When we were kids,if a cousin, sibling or friends got measles or chicken pox,our parents made sure all of us kids were exposed. The conventional wisdom was that exposure fed into our immune systems and virtually guaranteed that these diseases would never appear again. It was primitive, but,it worked brilliantly. Our parents made sure we were vaccinated against Smallpox,Diptheria,Polio,Typhoid and Tetnus when we were small children with a booster early in our teen years which served us well to this day. In a way,we've failed, miserably, with following through with the same philosophies with our children,so,it's kind of our own fault for raising a generation of wimps that feel it necessary to "biubble-wrap" the grandkids.
There are people incl. children out there who cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons (e.g. immunocompromised).
Parents who don't want their children vaccinated for some BS reason should not be allowed to bring their offspring to any puplic place (school, hospital, doctor's office, playground, mall, etc.) where they could infect anyone. They should also pay all health expenses related to vaccine preventable diseases if their child gets sick or infects anyone.
Exactly, if every person is vaccinated but those who cannot for medical reasons then those who cannot will not get sick because there are no carriers.
I think a lot of these anti-vaccination people should take a drip to the developing world and watch children dying of curable and preventable diseases, maybe they will figure it out when they watch a mother bury there kid because they got measles.
Jenny McCarthy!
It drives me nuts.
Who is stupid enough to get medical advice from an ex- pawrn star?
Take a walk through any old small town Ontario grave yard. Have look at who died especially pre1900. They are dominated by women dying having their last baby and a multitude of children many who died of vaccine preventable illness.
I was born in 58, had to actually go look to see what year they started immunizing for measles, mumps, chickenpox etc, I wasn't as it was before the time they had effective shots for this. I had them all at one point or another when young, Trimmer is bang on when he says parents would expose their kids, this allowed for controlled timing of the illness. Immunizations are far easier, safer than having the disease, and more effective at exposing the population at large, only hiccup is the idiots who refuse to believe the science and put others at risk due to their behavior. I believe the day will come when this is rightfully viewed as being negligent to your children not to have them "protected" from these diseases same as seat belts, helmets etc

I already view it that way.
An individual having exercising the option to terminate his or her own life does not affect society as a whole.
An individual who terminates her pregnancy due to rape, incest or other reasons does not affect society as a whole.
An individual who has no adverse medical reaction to vaccination, yet opts to not get vaccinated increases the risk of transmitting diseases to others who are unable to be vaccinated.
Individuals who exercise an option to terminate their own lives consentually or women who decide to terminate their pregnancies are exercising rights or priviledges granted by society.
An invidual who refuses to vaccinate, is avoiding a social responsibility.
Measles, rubella, whooping cough. OK. Absolutely sensible. The one I do not and will not get is the BS flu shot. I have no use for the flu shot, I can handle a Bout with the flu and the shot doesn't always help anyhow.
On a side note. Many vaccines for children are now available in a mercury free dose. Unfortunately the flu shot is not.
I nor my children have ever had the flu shot and that likely will never change and nock on wood they have never had the flu and I got it once over 20 years ago.
Just to clarify:
Vaccines do not contain elemental mercury. Vaccines (used to) contain ethylmercury, which is a preservative and anti-septic. Ethylmercury is also used in tattoo inks.
When you eat fish, you are ingesting methylmercury which is quite toxic.
When you get a vaccine, the preservative is ethylmercury which has a half life of 7 to 10 days and is nowhere near as toxic.
Basically, if you're willing to eat a whole stealhead from Lake Ontario and you have tattoos, then you should have no fear of getting a flu shot.
