Warning - Permethrin kills cats

You can buy clothes that have been treated with Permethrin which will kills ticks and a lot of other insects - you can also buy (from Amazon) a spray bottle to treat your own clothes - this stuff actually kills the ticks on contact and will last on your clothes for weeks even after washing - it is used in a lot of lotions and sprays that are used on dogs for fleas and ticks but the one problem is that it is deadly to cats - if a cat gets in contact with this stuff it will most likely kill the cat because it is strongly toxic to cats - even if you treat a dog and the dog gets near the cat - the cat can die -
I read the information that I got with the bottle that I bought and it does say that it is not harmful to cats once it dries - from what I read about this stuff it is safe for humans, dogs, horses etc. - and I would say it is the best thing to use if you are in the outdoors whether fishing, hunting, hiking or whatever - I plan on spraying the clothes I wear when I
start cutting firewood over the next couple weeks - just thought you would be interested - especially if you have a cat -

Any flea and tick control that you can buy for your dog (with permethren in it) will state right on the box that it's toxic on cats.

Yep. It's a well documented cat killer. On every pkg thst contains it.

I don't like cats that are allowed to roam free and kill birds and other animals - but I got a confession to make - I never liked cats but about a year ago I got my daughter a long haired domestic female cat - I got it fixed and declawed and it never goes outside - and I'll tell you something - I love that cat - its the friendliest cat you can find and very pretty - if you own a cat you know what I mean -

I have never seen, 'animal control' pick up a cat yet! Maybe they should , a couple of fines, will let cat owners know, you just can't open the door , let your cat out to do what it wants, then bring it back in, when it meows at the door. Maybe ,no collar, live trap it, and take it to the pound.

The thing is that cats are free. Kittens are cute and take away the thought of losing the adult.

It's not wise to collar a cat that goes outside because they will hang themselves in a tree.

The pound does not want cats because nobody really adopts adults. They are a huge cost and with no collar there's no fine to recoup costs.

Animal control shaves a patch on the cat's leg leg first, if they catch a cat with a shaved leg patch again, it's church. It's also an obvious warning to the owners about their loose cat.

Let the 'owner' go pick it up at the pound and pay the fine , otherwise...... There are laws to licence a cat! I know of no dog owners who do not licence their dog, cat owners none. If they are disposable, treat them as such. I know of no dog owner who would not pay that fine. Explain that to the kids.

Anyone know where I can get a gallon of the stuff. There's a few cats in our neighborhood.

It's interesting that it's toxic to cats but other mammals are minimally effect and have very high LD50 rates

Is it a cougar deterrent also? A cougar defense spray? Can you just plant Chrysanthemums around you property and repel cats.....and cougars?

Small village out here and lots of fluffys get dumped every year.
Most winters the yotes thin them out and I send as many as I can directly to church.
For the ones that are trap smart there is an option called Excalibur Exomag and blunts.
