Hey guys, as turkey season approaches (looks like it will be a wet one) I am in the market for a new pair of boots. I have looked at all the sites and read all the reviews, but just looking for some personal input on what you guys wear. I'm not really a fan of the muck style boot but more so the 8" work style boot. There is no real price to high as i figure dry comfortable feet are one of the most import things while out in the bush. Any and all input is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
I bought a pair of Cabelas ultralight hunter by Meindl. Super light and amazingly comfortable. I depends on what you want them to do. If you plan on going through 12" of water go for a rubber style boot.
I have a pair of Red Setter Havoc, leather upper type boot. They are well made. Very warm and comfortable. I bought them mainly for deer hunting, tree stand etc. I suspect they would be fine for turkey hunting, walking through standing water, puddles, muck etc., that is not too deep.
Mainly used for spring/fall turkey hunt, field hunting waterfowl and deer hunting the first controlled hunt. Won't really be walking through any creeks or rivers. Mostly just mud, puddles, long grass and through the bush. I currently own a Baffin version of the Muck boot and don't really enjoy how high they are, and you can't really feel the ground per-say so walking quietly seems to be a little difficult.
My best advice is to go try some on and walk around the store.
Have a look at Kenetrek boots pricey but worth it.
I don't have a pair but will defently be looking for a cabelas name brand for my next pair. Here's why. While visiting the Vaughn store a guy brought in a pair of boots that he said he had for about 10 yrs and the sole was coming off. Obvious they didn't have the same boots but they found an equivalent to them and exchanged them as warranty. I was shocked as these boots were obviously very well worn so I asked the lady after the guy had left and was told that as long as they are a cabelas name footwear they have a lifetime warranty. I was impressed.
Best time to buy hunting footwear from cabelas is jan to Feb .... Much of their cabelas brand name hunting wear goes on sale for 40% or better.... Food for thought...

I have broken an eyelet, but it was my fault due to the unique way the foot and ankle can be snugged independent of one another with the same single lacing.

well for spring turkey hunting I wear muck rubbers as it is always very wet in the morning dew frost and rain ,we have to cross hay fields and hunt a lot of them as well so any boot is going to get very wet .this is why I wear some kind of rubber boats .I have tried may kinds of rubber boats and find the muck to last the longest and the most comfortable ..Dutch
Its to bad they cant make the best of both worlds. An 8inch Muck style boot that lace up.
Just have to ask , are your feet really that big that you have to wear "rubber boats " ?:)Quote:

I was actually in Cabelas today in Barrie. I am looking for an insulated pair of rubber boots for deer hunting. I have great early season ones both leather and rubber but deer hunting can be pretty nasty. I was talking to the kid in the boot section and he confirmed that they in fact guarantee Cabelas brand boots for life. They didn't have the size I needed but November is not around the corner so will wait for stock to come in. I'm getting the 1200gr Rubber with side zip. I like that feature, makes us old guys get in and out of them easier after a day on stand. I was all set to get a pair of Mucks but a lifetime warranty is just too hard to pass up.

Feet sweat in rubber boots as they don't breath. Any high end boot Irish Setter, Rocky, Cabela's ....with Gore-Tex will keep water out and let your feet breath and stay dry + comfortable. Unless you plane to be in water for a lengthy time then Muck's are good to go.
