I don't have the resources to put this together (land) but though it would be fun to have a fun / competitive .22 shoot meet and greet.
I'm merely putting the idea out there but would be willing to help organize.
Anyone interested?

Yes , sounds like a great idea although I don't have land to offer. I am a member at a shooting club and I could inquire there but since weekends are pretty busy at most clubs I don't know how that will go.
Absolutely.
Where are you located Jeff?
I'm in Durham Region so I was thinking anywhere within 2 hours of GTA would be good.
I'd be interested!

Jeff,
I am not trying to rain on your parade but I wonder if there would be any liability issues with a gathering like this.
Dyth
I really have no idea....
I guess if I had chunk of land and invited some friends over to shoot, I would stress the safety issues, maybe lay a few ground rules and hope everyone enjoyed some friendly competition....
I guess I would look at it the same as having a bunch of guys over to hunt my property. If I'm wrong I don't mind if someone wants to let me know.
OFAH Members only....
We all have insurance.
This seems reasonable. However, when Jeff made the OP, he hadn't specified that. I would think you would also need to make sure everyone shooting had their membership cards readily available. There are a few forum members who aren't OFAH members and while I doubt they would show up, someone who isn't a OFAH might get wind of it and show up and this is where your problems come into effect I think. However, I am not a lawyer so this remedy might not be legally binding or remove the liability issue (if there is any).
Well. I have access to a beauty abandoned quarry on crown. But there's no way in heck im sharing that spot.
If we get enough interest I can always see about getting some space at my club ( Barrie). I'm an RCO, so can oversee the safety side.
I have my OFAH membership but didn't mention that as an prerequisite as I didn't want to exclude anyone. If it's a requirement then that is the route we would need to go.
I'm just throwing the idea out there, if anyone wants to run with it that works for me. I'd me more then happy to help manage / run.
If it comes down to renting out a club I'm equally good with that. Everyone throw in what ever $ is required and see if we can't shoot for a few hours and get a BBQ going...
We have 8 ranges available. Most aren't in use except a couple over the weekends. Typically guests pay $10 for the day, and have to fill out a waiver, ( and be signed in by a member).
Given the circumstances, I'd probably get our executive's approval 1st, but if we get down to that I can always deal with that then.
You're a good man, thanks for stepping up.
I'm in. I can track the numbers / names / prizes?
I can't do anything in April but I'm good for May. I'm assuming due to turkey season that a Sunday might be the best option.
If more guys are available in April I'll still help out but would have to miss the event due to work obligations.

50 strangers in the bush with guns, what could go wrong :0
I am still in. Am willing to help out with planning and execution and can try to round up some prizes.
I'm in.
I don't have ofah, but I'm a member of Cssa (Canadian shooting sports association) which has the same insurance.
I'm also a member at east elgin (aylmer). We host guest parties all the time if the other location doesn't pan out. It would mean a small fee to non members. But i believe covers the insurance issue as well.
I think the prizes should include a token 50 round box of .22 seeing as we're gonna shot a whole lot of it, and everyone's seeing it in such short supply. It may be the most coveted prize. Lol
I'm in Jeff, along with my grandson. [Both members]
Awesome Jim. Bluebulldog, looks like we are getting some numbers. I don't know anything about the club you have in mind. At what number roughly would we max out?
I and the wife will pencil it in the date books.
That's for the open house, because its a nightmare trying to know who's licensed or not. Who's an idiot or not.
With a closed small group( private party) .
They have forms for guests to fill out with pal #s club rules etc.
I would check everything was in order ahead of time, pass it in and i would assume it wouldn't be at all restrictive like the open house.
Invite an ex-military and let him/her run the Range, better still if he is an old RSO (Range Safety Officer)... I train/guide the kids I take target shooting this way, ...pick up the rifle, keeping pointing down range..ect, ect. Range safety brief, first aid, 911, procedure, designated first aid, back trucks in, ceasefire rules...lol...I could go on and on. It gets to be quite fun, and instills good behavior and thought processes in new shooters. Hell worked for me at 17...
Interested.. if I can find a mag our r two for my marlin... and I can carpool or something if it's far...
There are probably a couple of times each year that we have visitors who would like to try shooting. Could be the wife or son of an shooter or one of my grandchildren. They just want to shoot, not learn how to load, etc. I pick a spot where they can see where their shots hit, load and hand them the gun. ALL they need do is try to use the sights and see what it feels like to shoot a gun. Most have NO idea...and the most common word after the first shot is "COOL!"...Quite often after the first box of ammo they still haven't loaded the gun, but they can make the coke can jump....
Once they decide that they like to shoot, then they are more receptive to the mechanics of how to "work the gun"...and how the gun works....
I think you may be over thinking this a little ,,every year we have turkey shoots or card shoots .thy are on private land some are at clubs ,and we never had a problem with nonlicenced shooters anybody can shoot .thy to look at it as a turkey shoot this may give you some ideas as I am sure some guys here have been to turkey shots before D
At any certified club range , the day of using coke cans as targets is long gone.
The range inspector from the CFO's office when he makes his inspections and notices anything "but paper targets placed in the proper place on the target frames " will issue a notice of violation of rules that can shut the range down .
It happened at our club a number of years ago , He found a couple of empty shotshells that were used as targets and issued a stern warning to the club and the club was put under watch for I believe 5 years , everything is ok now.
So if you are planning a meet and greet shoot, and it is to be held at a club somewhere, make sure that you use proper /paper targets to prevent any problems should an inspector from the CFO's office come out for an inspection whenever .
Yes ! at our club there is a silhouette range off to the side used for .22 cal. [Provincial Silhouette Competitions] , not normally open for the rest of the rifle section to use.
Also yes we do have a gong at the 200 yard range but is enclosed except for the opening and it is used on the center fire range only.
East elgin allows clay pigeons, fruit etc (as long as you clean up after your self). Nothing metal other than the gongs at 100m( can be used for .22 and up to large centerfire. No shotgun.
Guys do we have an idea on numbers?
Are you guys going to reach out to any orgs like OOD, OFAH for some photo ops, maybe some swag, etc?

For me dates are always critical. And if I can make it, I have no problems serving as the "official shooter" ;) as well. Meaning I have no problems recording the outing so people can have good images of this or that.
So what is the possible venue and date? I'm in if the date works.
Found my mag.. I'd I can get there I'm in.
Sounds like a great day. I'm interested as well
I'm interested with a potential +1 on .22
Venue and date would be nice.
Were both with NFA insurance.
I just ran out of .22 long rifle at camp (my squirrel getter) but when I went into Sudbury to buy another box there wasn't one to be had anywhere.
Just something you guys should look into now.....
I at one time was driving only across Canada( one week going west, one week coming home), on a two week trip. Lots of Gophers are no longer digging up the Alberta Grazing leases, and a few Rabbits thrown in the slow cooker with potatoes or rice and veggies and spices sure beats truck stop burgers. Wholesale sports in Regina or Bass Pro in Winnipeg or Calgary was a stop going both ways.
Hope this works. Here is one of the spots I would park and walk off in to the Public grazing leases..

Here is another out in BC. It's call Sunday Summit and those roads/trails you see go for ever.

and yes walking around on the top of a BC Mountain in Grizzly Country carrying a .22 has it's moments.
Not my truck but you get the idea. I hold licenses for Ontario, Alberta, and BC.
sure sure....
a fun looking way to go through a few thou....
