I understand / get some peoples feelings about "trophy" hunting, and I have my own as well. But all things being equal, if what they are doing is legal, ethical (which is different for everyone) then we don't really have room to judge what they post.

As for the ramblings about "we are forced to see on our wall, feeds"

Do you not know the people you have on your facebook? who they are, what they are about, what they like to do? If you have friends / co-workers / etc that you know hunt, good chance, their going to post a picture that may not be to your liking.

What can you do to prevent that? don't "follow them" they can still be your friend on facebook, but don't subscribe to their page, don't turn on notifications for them, etc. Then it won't populate on your wall. We shouldn't be banned from posting things on our wall, because others don't know how to work theirs.

I got into it with a co worker two years ago over bear hunting pictures / trail cam pictures I posted.

Basically he said

"So if I understand this correctly, you set out food, setup a camera, watch what times the bears come, give them more food, sit in hiding and ambush them, real sportsman like of you"

I removed the comment shortly after, and he rebutted with "so much for freedom of speech"

As to which I replied.

"My facebook wall, is like a wall in my home, I can hang any type of artwork I see fit on there, so long as it's legal. If anyone should come into my home, and see something hanging on my wall they don't like, they can simply walk back out the door, and never return. I don't force people to come into my house, you come on your own terms, and you can leave on them as well"

I know I'm not alone in sharing on social media the results whether they be successful or not of a good days hunt, whether it be twitter, facebook, my blog, here, or instagram.

But does anyone not post, simply for these reasons?

I have absolutely no problem with someone posting pictures of their hunt. I just limit my postings to hunting groups, etc.

I wish they would outlaw "selfies" on Facebook!

Hahahahahahha, selectively choosing what to sensor. Hypocrites at their finest - want freedom of expression and speech but only if it meets their expectations. This is why I don't waste my time on Social Media outside of OOD.

There's some things we do because we should and other things we do because we can. The trick is to know the difference. It matters not whether we have our "rights" to post what we want,but,along with those "rights",we also have responsibilties to represent our outdoor/hunting lifestyle in a positive light. With the vast disconnect between society and the way our food is gathered and prepared,it would be wise of us not to allow anything to those know-nothing morons as ammo to use against us. Facebook is an abomination at the best of times. That's why I don't have a Facebook website.

A bit misguided me thinks. If I pose with a trophy = bad. If I pose with a doe or a squirrel = ? . Any way I like the way you handled that guy who confronted you TR. That was a classy response.

I don't think the Facebook poster meant "trophy" in the same context as we hunters do. I think it was just meaning posting any dead animal pictures...Trophy hunting to some means huge horns or beards or whatever. To me, anything I take is a trophy !

First question would be is it valid? Haft the stuff being shared is false.

Second why shouldn't they be allowed to have a say in what people post?

I don't own it, I can tell them how I feel, but it is their site.

So much b#$%hing and moaning about what folks post on FB. I couldn't really care less about any of it.

However, i do understand that there could be "friends" who really like following me and the exploits of my nutso family... but don't want to see pics of the game i take.

Facebook could implement a photo classification system where i could tag my pics as "Hunting" and they'd be blanked out "spoiler" style for folks who don't enjoy looking at that stuff.

I guess the other option is to start a private group where you can post stories and pictures of your hunt on Facebook. This forum seems to work fine for me but it's always an option.

I find cold weather offensive, unless I'm snow skiing (then it's okay). So I want facebook to ban all winter photos.
I also find excessive taxes offensive, which are attracted at all stores and restaurants, so no more photos of people in those facilities.
Oh heck, we should just shut facebook down now, everything's offensive to someone.

In 3 month, 14.000 people signed it over 1.35 billion users.... So, I don't think much about it, just another anti that found something new to complain about. Nothing to worry about.

only time i have had somebody complain about my hunting pictures was from my whack job aunt that emailed me and said she was deleting me off facebook because of my hunting pictures, my response was i guess you forgot how you were raised...

i do hold back on posting anything profane etc out of respect for family and inlaws, and younger family etc alot of stuff i go to post i always think, do i want my 12 year old neice or my wife's aunt who is overly religious to see lol or my father inlaw LOL

I see far less complaining about pics on facebook than i do on here, havent posted a fish picture here in years, may not post hunting pics anymore, still decideing, but will continue on facebook...

Well that's the issue, if you stop posting in here you give a good reason to the X to keep at it.
Don't forget there are a lot more readers than posters in any forum that are here to enjoy looking at the posted pictures. Let's just ignore the other side and keep posting memories!

Some good discussion for sure, and while I certainly understand some peoples stance / feelings towards Facebook, and that's fine as well. But the point of the post was more, how do you feel about the fact that places like Facebook (if it is legit) or stuffed rabbits being pulled from an artshow at Fanshawe (thanks Sharon for the link) trying to sensor out hunting, or anything related to it.

I get, and understand that sometimes we need to pick our battles, and be selective about what we share, and where, not apologize for, but also not draw unwanted attention.

But when it's organizations like this, flat out saying no, to sharing of what we do, does that not label what we do as bad, wrong, immoral, etc... and send the wrong message to impressionable people that may not have made up their mind on the subject yet? and possibly deter them from entering into our world?

I recall the recent post my trappermat a few weeks ago where he shared the pictures and stories of a school / classroom embracing what he has to share, offer, and teach, and the kids eating it up, who knows, maybe that story or picture, that someone happens to see by accident, sparks their curiousity, and gets them interested in hunting, from an otherwise non hunting family.

No right or wrong, just good food for thought.

I'll never apologize for what I am, and what I do, I will never hide it, but at the same time, I do understand there is a limit, a time, and a place.

to me its just a issue of, if you dont like dont look at it... i have a fealing its the same people that signed this petition that got bugs bunny takin off the air years ago... if they are that set against hunting, then they shouldnt have hunters on their facebook to begin with...

I have asked friends and family not to post any pictures which may have myself or my family in them on Facebook. If we should want photos of us on Facebook we will post them ourselves or advise them that it's ok for them to do so. I also feel that other groups or persons whining about a person sharing their successful hunting or fishing pictures should stop and look at what they themselves share. Can't stand getting info shared about when people are having a movement, what they are eating, who they are in a relationship with or those stupid games. Share if you wish and be proud of your pastime or hobbies.
