So I am trying to determine which will be more useful for Goose hunting. I can only afford to buy one or the other.
What do you think?

Personally I would go with a lay down blind for field hunting waterfowl. They are a lot more versatile and can be set up in the middle of the field with the proper natural covering. The other two would have to be setup near a wind break or natural bush line, it really depends what the location looks like where you hunt.
Coffin style for goose hunting and get one with a low profile, the blind is for the birds, not for you. Too many buy blinds thar are way too big and spook the birds.
You get a better sleep in a layout blind :)
I'm with Fox. Hunted almost everyday last fall for Geese, and hardly a day went by when I didn't have a nap. Lol
Go with a quality layout, as mentioned can be used anywhere in the field, easy to hide, and portable. I had to go with a larger style one, because, well, I'm a larger style :) but you can get good regular sized ones at a good price.
I don't like the looks of that one in your link, seems complicated / PITA with that big overhead door, the coffin style is what you want.
Check Rogers Sporting Goods for the goosebuster, it's an awesome blind, and most in my group run them, I have the XL for obvious reasons.
If you can get it shipped to someone in the states and go pick it up, it's pretty cheap.
Watch Kijiji, they do come up occasionally, you should be able to get a good one for around $100 if you watch for it.
Really like the layout blinds. Have 3 different brands and use them all on occasion, I hunt alone a fair bit but with 3 I can have someone tag along from time to time. So if your ever up my way GW I gots a blind for ya to try.

Plus one for the layout blind. I've used one for many different waterfowl hunts. Also you can get a snow cover for some brands if needed. They are easy to nap in as well, just like others have posted.
Low profile lay out blind all the way. We had a guy tag along with #2 blind. It ruined our hunt by flaring every goose.
Lots of good info. I was thinking of actually sleeping right in it with my military sleeping bag.
That is the whole reason the 'lay down' thing won't work for me GW.....anytime I go horizontal I'm asleep in minutes. It would be nice to nap in, but there would be little hunting going on :)Quote:

GW, the tent style is what my dad uses for turkey, he actually sleeps in the tent so that he does not kick the birds out of the roost on the way in.
I have woken up more than once last fall, with Geese walking around everywhere. I don't know who was startled more, the Geese or myself
Well I was thinking of just actually camping out in it for something to do, I did buy one of those military sleeping bags last year.

I put in another vote for the layout. Can be used anywhere for a lot of uses. I have used mine in the middle of fields, on the shore of an island on the river, on shore of Lake Erie etc. it really is a good all around place to hide. Just make sure you stubble it up with local natural cover before you hunt!

I agree with a layout as the best bet. I was talking to my uncle who was doing some work for a landowner (digging out a pond) and he told me a story where the group of guys went in and put up a bale blind (no hay in the fields and this thing stuck out like a sore thumb) and the birds kept flaring when they started to approach. Get low and get covered as best you can.

Of course, the blinds are open. Always spend the most time on concealing your layouts.

That is crucial for a layout blind.
As I get older and my back wears out more, my ability to sit up quickly enough for effective shooting is not what it used to be.
I can still knock down 95%+ on skeet and trap. But after lying down for hours+ my shooting is not as good after the struggle to sit upright in a coffin blind
Totally depends on the hunt, normally I'd have decoys right with the blinds. On this particular day, there was no wind, so the birds could approach from any direction. This helped to keep them from landing behind us.Quote:

When I got my layout I was worried about being able to pop up easily. And when trying untie basement. It was less than smooth.
But as others said it would. Soon as someone called the shot in the field. I came up out of that thing like it was nothing. Amazing what the real life scenario will do versus practice.
I think of it like shooting a target verses an animal. On an animal hardly remember the shot let alone feel or hear it. It just happens. Verses the target where it hits all your senses. Layout is the same way for me.
Mine I hit with the mud before each season begins. I hunt pretty much the same type fields so once stubble has been done I only touch them up every few times out. If I hunt different fields I may touch them up wit some of that fields plants.
As for the dekes we place some of them right in around the blinds to try and take away from the lump in the field look. Getting in and out is my physical fitness activity as well as a few sit ups every outing. Hunting waterfowl from a layout blind is very mentally healthy and a good physical/cardio workout. A few hours a few times a week is recommended.
