Suburban deer and ppl who "love" them

So a doe gave birth to twin fawns in my backyard, or close by, this past weekend. One of the fawns spent all of sunday bedded down in my hostas. When i woke up on monday morning it was gone, but the other fawn hadn't moved from its spot a couple doors down.

The mother has been bounding around the neighbourhood tending to the other fawn for the last few days. Shes been jumping fences, running across busy roads, eating ppls plants and generally causing a spectacle since the weekend. I heard some of ppl say they were going to leave water dishes out for the fawns and thought about bottle feeding them too......cripes.

Finally, someone calls some animal control organization and they came in yesterday and scooped up the remaining fawn and took it away. Im thinkin...ok great. Thats probably a win-win. Get the deer off these busy streets and out of harms way and maybe the fawn will be eventually raised on some deer farm somewhere (or maybe they euthanize them...i have no idea). I just thought..good. We dont need more deer running around this busy suburban area, for someone to eventually hammer with their car and mess up themselves or their vehicles. Theres tons of kids that play on the streets here and we dont need ppl having to dodge or swerve recklessly on the roads. ...Or worse, one of the deer makes its way to the downtown area again, jumps thru a store window, and has the cops come and shoot it in front of a bunch of kids again (happened a few years back).

Anyways....what does someone do....?! They called the company and complained and made them return the fawn to the backyard they found it in! So im here tellin my neighbours that was mistake and its probably gonna end up badly for someone or one of these deer pretty soon.

But nope, everyone is just so concerned that these deer are protected.

I think we should leave the deers alone and move you guys...

This will run its course and those paying close attention to the fawn and doe will see the results, likely won't be a pretty picture and have them rethink their intervention, once you intervene its hard to convince yourself your actions didn't play a role.

They will move away. If you have a discharge by law that allows you to shoot deer I would set up a feeder in your backyard in the fall. They do it in Ancaster and in New Jersey. This posts reminds of the show Chasing Tail. Google it great show about deer hunting in the urban areas.

I am surprised animal control actually moved the fawn a couple of days after it's birth. I am actually a little surprised the doe didn't give problems to the officer. The doe left/put the fawn there for a reason and she expects it to be where she left it. Moving the fawn will make the doe search for it and that means even more movement around the neighbourhood.

You don't know for sure if someone complained and made them return the fawn. The animal control company could have contacted the MNR and been told to put the fawn back (although now, I wonder would the doe take the fawn back). There are plenty of scenarios where the fawn was put back without someone complaining, I don't think telling your neighbours putting the fawn back was a mistake because the fawn shouldn't have been removed in the first place.

Well how the #@%! do you know what he "knows" or "doesn't know" from a frikin post on the internet? He might know that for dam sure for all you know. Maybe not, but I do laugh of at how you will chastize this guy for what you presume to be assumptions based on your assumption!

Alls im sayin is that more deer in my hood is good for nobody.

Need to feed the bears somehow.....

I wish people would leave well enough alone and let Mother Nature look after her own stuff. Honestly,city people need a slap.

Wait until the deer move in and begin eating every flower bed they can find. The tune will change then!

I only have what bigtedd stated in his post. He said someone complained (he has further stated it was a neighbor who told him) and the fawn was put back. A single complaint doesn't have that power. It never has. Furthermore, unless bigtedd was the person who complained, he is simply using conjecture to further his belief that the fawn should have been removed permanently. I disagree and I propose it should never have been touched in the first place.

Furthermore, I was not chastising him. I used very pleasant language to get my point that there may have been factors he wasn't aware of which actually forced the return of the animal.

Suggesting there may have been other factors in the decision to return the fawn is a far cry from telling you what you do and do not know.
