I was looking on line for a tick spray for my pup, I also have him on advantick so hopefully it will help with the things clinging on and not jumping off in my truck or onto my kids, but I did come across this a few time's and that is mixing 1 cup of water and 2 cups vinegar in a spray bottle and spry the dog down, then it says to add 2 spoonfuls of almond or vegetable oil to repel fleas as well
anyone hear or ever try this, and if so does it work
If your dog is on a monthly dose of K9 AdvantixII then don't spray anything on him. That product will be as good and better than any homebrew, in fact I wonder if the vinegar would actually lessen it's effectiveness?. Now if you you want to treat your clothes then have at her. I actually bought a spray at TSC that is used on horses that contains Permethrin and will be using that on my clothing. Wasn't cheap but I hate ticks. Dog never gets them with Advantix.
Why bother watering down the the K9 Advantix II ? I use KOMBAT from Canadian Tire for myself and all hunting clothing to repel ticks,mosquitos ,flys etc. I think i paid $10.00 for the bottle last year and I am still using it (non aerosol).

Excellent stuff.
Hands down "Bronco" equine spray. Tried and tested by me and my 2 terriers in and around the Que'Appelle in Sask. Truthfully it's nothing to have a couple hundred ticks on you from a 5-10 minute stroll through the grass...with the dogs and myself sprayed down with "Bronco" not one. The only downside would be that it washes off with water so wet grass might be a bugger. Smells purdy too.
Good to know, I had thought that Permethrin was not approved for sale in Canada, even though it is legal to possess. I just ordered a quart of 10% Permethrin to dilute for clothes and the dogs.Quote:

We are using Absorbine Ultrasheild Ex in addition to Revolution for the third year now with full blessing from both our previous and current vets
Personally I don't use Permethrin. Not to say that others shouldn't do what they are comfortable with.
I considerate it a hazard. It can do big time damage if it gets on your skin while you are spraying or any floats near your eyes.
I'll stick to Deet . It does the job for me.

Permethrin is a huge bee killer too. I don't want to put anything into the air that might increase the demise of our bees.
I agree Sharon and have stuck with the KOMBAT product for that reason. KOMBAT has a high percentage of DEET and it works great. I use to spray pesticides and herbicides many years ago while in the greenhouse business and landscaping business. I am very particular (pesticides)with what I spray on my body.
A friend of mine died from lung cancer - a non smoker. His death was attributed to years of spraying his apple orchards and not wearing a mask etc. They didn't know any better back then.
Coleman has a bug spray with 98% deet. Bought it in Belize. Don't know if you can get that here.
:) No thanks. 30 % Deet melts plastic. Deep Woods is 25 % deet and lasts for 8 hours. I use OFF which is 15% deet and lasts for 5 hours.
I've ruined a lot of lures and took the paint/decals off a few reels when I used to have deet on my hands while fishing.Quote:

Bravecto sounds interesting, and it would be around $55 for the 12 week application (no lone star ticks here to worry about). The ticks are thinning out now, but I might limit the Permethrin to the dog run, and my outdoor work clothes (at 0.5% application). I'm not too worried about spraying insects with them, you get the best protection on clothing once they have dried a few days; they are apparently good for 6 washes. Keep any cats away from wet Permethrin - it's no good for them and can cause issues until it is dry.
That bottle of Ultrasheild has lasted us three years already and will get us through this year as well. (Two hounds plus spraying campsites)
We used to use Muskol (95% Deet) when it was on the market. Stuff literally tanned your hide it was so potent, would melt fishing line, reel handles and melt paint. It did work though. Used to do a lot of things in those days I wouldn't do anymore :ashamed:

Changed my mind a bit. I'm picking up a spot on product today - I picked another two ticks off of my male last night.
Poor guy has been getting the brunt of it. Our female has had none. Pet Value has a flea & tick spot for $17 with 4 monthly doses. 45% Permethrin with a bit of S-methoprene. I don't really need the S-methoprene (insect growth regulator) part, but it won't hurt; just like I wouldn't need the Imidacloprid (neonicotinoid), or Pyripoxyfen (insect juvenile hormone mimic) in Advantix II, since I've got the fleas covered with Revolution (selamectin).
Turns out it is Zodiac Powerspot. Petsmart has it for $15.
You won't need the Revolution anymore either as the permethrin tackles fleas as well. No sense in OD'ing your dog with toxins.Quote:
