I have a smaller day pack for deer hunting early in the fall and it's fine. Once the weather starts to get colder though I need a pack big enough to stash a layer or two on the way to the stand. It's a pretty expensive investment so I'm wondering if anyone has a pack they particularly like. It needs to be camoed.thanksDan O.
I don't have a pack but do carry my turkey vest sometimes. It seems to hold quite a bit. I can also put an extra top/jacket or two in the back portion....
For carrying additional layers, I like using external compression straps. Personally, I use a Tenzing 2220. Has enough room for camera gear, camera arm, calls, binos etc...and has several straps to secure additional layers to the outside. The rain cover also works great for keeping stuff dry when getting caught in a downpour.
If your set on carrying layers inside the pack, i'd look into 3000+ cubic inch packs.

I use Milsurp webbing, just use the strap on the back to tie down any large articles of clothing. Best thing about it is the ability to move the packs around as required:

I use the Rush 24 for traveling/bugout as well as hunting but mainly the Rush 72 for hunting...lots of room in both and a great product!

It's got a fairly large capacity, and compression straps to keep stuff from moving around. I particularly like the blaze pull out for rifle season.

They are very tough and we'll made. I have had mine in constant use for 4 years. I can pack spare boots, a change of clothes, water bladder, gear and ammo ect in to it. Larger items like heavy coats, small tents, poncho liners ect... Get rolled up in a shelter half and strapped to the top of the pack.

For a day pack I have an Eberlestock X1. It has a built in rifle scabbard and "butt bucket" strap for a bow. I'm a little taller than average and they offer a longer harness. Great pack!!!

I use a two pack system; one for the stuff while in the stand/blind and a second one for retrieval. The retrieval pack has the blood flashlight, tracking tape, gutting knife and tools, surgical cloves etc etc. Using a separate pack, cuts the load I carry for the hunt almost in 1/2.
The retrieval pack is similar to what Marker use's, a glorified fanny belt with multiple compartments. It stays at home or at the camp or in the truck until needed.
I got into the habit years back, that after the kill, I'd walk back home to exchange the packs, change my hunting gear to older stuff I don't mind getting blood on and pick up the Otter Sled to drag the deer back to the barn. In general just to let some time pass before I head back to retrieve the game. Most of the time the retrieval stuff is not needed as the deer drop where they are hit, but I still keep the pack ready in case it is required.
Sitka has very good stuff but it is expensive. I use the full choke pack.

Awesome pack, fits my winter pants and parka in the main compartment ,plus all the stuff I need in the 3 pockets.
Balances well,has straps for add on stuff........look it up if you wish.
I like my Horn Hunter treestand pack. Used it for one season so far. ....well built.
