Leatherman Wave

Just picked up a leatherman wave onsale at cabelas for 40 bucks off.....seems to be a nice handy little tool. Just curious who else owns one and their reviews on it. Mine will be a handy asset for everyday wear including hunting and general use. COuld never justify spending over a hundred bucks for one, but with a bit of bday cash sale price of 59.99 made the plunge.

Future I may pick up the extra bit extender and bit set, and the leather sheath. I do like the nylon case I just dont see it lasting long.

Ya I imagine it would.....if I could have I would of liked the black oxide version...but they were not the ones on sale and I had a co worker pick the stainless one up for me.

I find it's the knife blades that rust. Keep them oiled. The nylon sheath is tougher than it looks ... mine is still going after >5yrs, despite being chewed up by my dog as a pup.

I use mine all the time. Great tool.

Anyone purchase or use the extra bits and bit extender that fits in the back slot of the nylon sheath.....pricey but may be handy to have down the road.

I have an older one with the leather sheath. Never had any rust issues with it. I actually gutted a deer with it once just to say I did it ...LoL. I wear my Wave all the time when hunting. Lifetime investment. The only improvement I could think of would be a choke tube wrench with 16g slots. :silly:

I have one. I always bring it with me when in the bush. Unfortunately you will also need a bigger knife for big game hunting (field dressing), but I usually carry the bigger one in my backpack.
So far, the only complaint I have with the Wave is that the handle is not very ergonomic, and the sheath sits too high on my belt, but they may have changed the design since I got mine several years ago. Other than that, it is a great tool. I oil it occasionally to keep it moving freely and to prevent rust.

Not the best to field dress a deer but I still did two with it and the result was good.

I have one (going on more than a decade) and it is a great tool to have on your hip. Never had a need for any attachements.

$59 is a pretty good deal.

I have the bit kit but not the extender. The bit kit is useful if you use the tool a lot for all kinds of stuff. Mine gets used around the house as the go-to driver, so I do actually use the bits. People who reach for the toolbox won't need it. ;)

Leatherman Wave is one of the most popular tools in their product lineup. I had owned the original (with the nice brown leather sheath) and now wear the current model on my belt while outdoors. I haven't had any rust issues over the years but I do wipe the tool with G96 everytime I'm back from the field.

I think both Le Baron and MEC sell the two different sets of bits together for $20.

I have 4 leatherman tools. The Supertool and the Blast. Have had the Supertool for many years and purchased the Blast because it had the scissors for notching game tags. The nylon sheath sucks as the Velcro is just plain substandard and trying to find leather sheaths that fit can be a chore. You'll never go wrong with a Leatherman.

I love Leathermans. I've had one model or another on my belt for the last 20 years. My PST still has the leather sheath it came with 20 years ago but the new leather sheaths are crap. The one tnat came with my Rebar fell apart in less than a year. Lots of good aftermarket sheaths out there. Shouldn't be hard to find one that fits.

I'm on my second one, as my first one was stolen from my car. Right now it is misplaced, but this thread has given me the kick in the pants to hopefully find it.
love it, always take it with me in the bush. I bought my first one because of survivor man les stroud. lol.

Figured out a much cheaper method to buying the leather man driver bit and bit set........I took a regular driver bit and grinded the end down so it fits in the leatherman wave slot.....now I can carry the driver bit with me in the slot on the provided nylon sheath and use any standard bits........and cost me zilch.

For some reason, guns, knives and cool flashlights work better then viagra for me.

So I'm not the only crackpot who can't stop buying flashlights then? Have way more knives than I need too but so far nobody has threatened to restrict those.

Already started looking at the streamlight microstream for one od the side elastic pouches on the side of the leatherman wave nylon sheath it came with just for EDC.

Anyone recommend any other decent flashlights in the 3 - 3.5" range just for EDC.....looking at streamlight microstream, like you can use it on your hat as well

I have two, with a bit kit. The Wave goes with me everywhere. I use gun oil on it, of all the oils I have tried RemOil seems to be the best option for lube vs everything sticking to it.
I used the saw routinely to cut small branches around me to build a quick hide when I am turkey/coyote hunting. I have also used the saw to cut open the chest of various critters including a 130 lb pig that I roasted later that day.

The blades hold a good edge and love diamond stones.

Friend had several Leatherman tools burn up in a fire at the hunt camp. I was going to Portland Oregon on business so I took all of the burnt hulks with me to the Leatherman store. I handed over the burnt rusted versions and the Rep handed me back brand new models in a one-for-one exchange. They honour their life time warranty.

I could write pages on the number of things I have done with this tool.
