Royal assent expected June 18

My MP, Cheryl Gallant, promised me that Bill C-42 would pass but I really didn't believe her.
I guess I'll have to donate to the CPC.
Call me cynical or whatever, but if the Conservatives lose this bill will be struck down before Christmas.
GW,
It will no longer be a bill by then. It will be enshrined as Law. It receives royal assent this week.
Of course...the left, if they win, will likely at some point table their own bill to change these laws again. But I don't think that willbe their top priority. If it becomes so I would be highly suspect of their motives.
Instead I think you will see foreign policy, energy policy and repealing of tough on crime laws be their priority. Then comes the bud...it will be tops for sure.
does this mean that if I own a possession only license. I will be able to purchase an unrestricted rifle?
Upon renewal,
POL's will automatically upgrade to PAL,
RPOL's will automatically upgrade to RPAL's.?
POLs will be assumed to be PALs once this passes. You wont need to wait for renewal.
Just received an e-mail from CSSA - it's a done deal - Royal Assent!
POLs wont exist after the bill goes to law. The card will stay say POL but it will be considered a PAL. And part of the law is also a 6 month grace period for expired licenses.
If you let your license expire and miss the 6 month grace period, well, thats your own fault and I have a difficult time feeling sorry for you. We're all adults and should be able to keep our licenses in order (extenuating circumstances excluded).
I agree, absolutely. This was signed into law by the GG,today. Ralph Goodale is now on record claiming the Liberals "have no intention of re-introducing an LGR." The NDP hasn't made any comments one way or the other, but, given the corner stones of a quasi-communist party,I think it's a fair supposition that they'd do it in a heartbeat.
Changes to POL fon't take effect for 3 months. Until then, it's still a POL.
The 6 month grace period won't go into effect for 9 months.
Similarly, ATTs are still required for a few months yet. Check the Cdn firearms centre site.
I am still trying to find additional corroborating statements from the Minister's officer but this is from the updated link that topher posted as part of his start of this thread.
From Calibre magazine...
That’s right folks. According to the timeline we were given, all holders of RPALs should no longer require separate LTATT paperwork, and all POL holders can head down to their local gun shop and buy a new gun to celebrate, hopefully some time before Canada Day. Furthermore, we were informed that the order to move the Swiss Arms and CZ858 rifles back to their previously classifications will be occurring “promptly,” and should be expected some time this summer.
UPDATE: CLARIFICATION OF AUTOMATIC ATT ISSUANCE
We received further word this morning, after asking for clarification of the “upon renewal” portion of the automatic ATT issuance component of C-42, and the direct quote from Minister Blaney’s office is that “The phrase ‘upon renewal’ just means that as long as the person has a license and is in good standing, they are authorized to transport to the approved locations.” In other words, it does not appear to require current RPAL holders renew their license before they will be awarded with automatic ATT.
So since an ATT will kinda be implied if you have an RPAL does that mean you can shoot it at a secluded gravel; pit or on your own range?
RCMP bulletin 92 says it will be 9 months before the ATT's are rolled in to the PAL's....
Update to my post. Looks like the bulletin was removed last night.
No. The blanket ATT applies to transporting the gun for recognized routine reasons (e.g. to the range and back). It does not provide authorization to transport the gun anywhere you like or to shoot it anywhere except at an approved range.
Apparently the government moved to force the RCMP to implement the measures in the bill immediately, so my earlier post re the time periods (which was from the RCMP) has been overtaken by events. Normally, you expect there to be a delay with these things, as the new law has to be implemented and people trained on new policies, etc. Not this time ... that's politics for you.
The blanket ATT covers bringing it home and also to a gunsmith.
Last night there was a Bulletin on the RCMP site about C-42. It doesn't seem to be there now.
It appears that the RCMP decided to release the Bulletin based on their timeline that did not correlate to the release by the Public Safety Minister.
Pretty sure they got their fingers smacked again, told to take it down and to release it when there was clear timelines for each of the various changes.
It is within your home province.
You would need a separate ATT for that. Because the ATT is approved at the provincial level.
That's my understanding.
The blanket ATT will now be a condition of the RPAL, but it applies only within your home province.
This is the new text of the Firearms Act, with the changes underlined. Note that it applies only in your home province (bold).
The amendment essentially says that when your RPAL is renewed, the CFO must issue a blanket ATT to transport for routine reasons within your home province.Quote:

This is pending an order-in-council before it comes into force.
So Yes I can simple add my 44 or 45 to my ATF form and take it with me to hunt in tye US.
Having that option I could for the first time, "HUNT GAME" with my handgun, or AR Style rifle.....:o:cool::)
