Over a decade removed from a cup win. How much of Lou's success is tied to drafting one of the best goalies ever?
I guess we'll see.
Yup - I agree with kickingfrog. What have you done for me lately?
How old is he? Does he have the hunger and drive he had when he was younger?
Either way, I think Shanahan will retain control of major decisions.
Brodeur was great, but how much of his success was due to the trap and the system in front of him. Would bet a lot of money his stats wouldn't be anywhere near as impressive without the team and system in front of him, nor his reputation as one of the best ever.
Does the trap have any kind of place in todays game? Between rule changes and other changes I don't think so.
Hopefully he doesn't try to build a team around that. It wont work.
He will fit right in as he already has 1 foot in the grave just like the Leafs! LMAO
While most of us wont get to be as old as Brampton Mike I wonder if Shanny panicked a bit picking a gm as the season is fast approaching but then again are there any other Gm's available with a proven track record? Not saying he will be the answer to everything but I like the fact he has coaching experience as well and that means he is just not a stats guy or a money guy but he actually understands and can relate to players. I dunno , time will tell.
Nay. Hardly a sign of 'rebuilding and going forward' picking a guy as old as dirt and has been around the game forever.
I wonder who's gonna end up running the show lou or shannie
He was hired for his reputation, people in the league respect him.
This GM will be by committee, Dubas, Hunter, and Shanny will have their say along with Babcock, Lou will be in the mix but will not be making the decisions on his own.
Nothing wrong with this move, bringing in good hockey minds can never hurt.
People say what has he done for me lately, but that would be like saying Scottie Bowman no longer knows the game, total BS, Lou had put the Devils in the playoffs all but 5 times since 1987, think about that. They never rebuilt, they kept cycling in good people and built a winning brand, that is what is needed in Toronto.
Time will tell if leaf nation will put up with the length of time required to rebuild this team. At least a few more seasons of bottom dwelling. Hoping the leafs draft well and having to move out a bunch of current players. Not gonna happen overnight. Then again, just making the playoffs will be like winning the cup for leaf fans.
On the positive side - Lou will have a lot more money to spend than he had with Jersey.
If they can build up the farm they will be ok, but they need luck too. Look at the red wings, they got lucky with many of their players. They have good scouts, they took risks on a few young guys, had the coaching in the minors and the big club and they have a winning attitude.
It will take a while for that winning attitude to rub off on the leafs but anything is possible.
