I was out Sunday, looks like the three pieces of crownland I know will be busy again this year. Tried knocking on doors , but had a few slams in my face.the beaver valley looks great for deer, hard to find permission, has any one been out scouting ? I have seen a few but not like last year.
I hear you. That area is loaded with tree huggers, hikers, environmentalist .....Farmers are the way to go but they're busy now with crops/harvest. The deer pop looks good so far.
I have seen a decent amount of sign at our camp in 82a. In terms of crown/public there are over 40 county forests (over 8000 acres in total) that you can hunt plus a number of SVCA properties (another few thousand acres).

not just the tree huggers anymore but most farmers are even hesitant now adays.....most of the farms in 82a are being bought up by the mennonites, which in most cases hunt as well. And alot of the farmers have turned to making a profit of the rights to hunt (which is their right) and charging the city folk to come down to hunt in one of the few areas left that arent controlled. Its tough now adays to find a good private spot to hunt, unless you know someone or have your own property, but all you can do is knock on doors and hope for the best.

other issue is hunting pressure. lots of folks from toronto swing by this way. family lives out there and says friends have yearling calves shot. a few bad groups ruin it for most of us, but unfortunately not just 82A.
We hunt 82a. Last few years I’ve been hearing fewer shots Monday am. Either fewer hunters or less deer. I suspect fewer hunters because our harvest has been pretty good. We’re from the city and have hunted the property over 10 years. Owner doesn’t take payment but we leave him a gift. Most of all he doesn’t want problems so we don’t cause any.
Hello, I've been hunting 82A in the Beaver Valley on a friend's farm for several years. The farmer takes 1/2 of my harvest which I think is a little excessive, but I don't see much choice. I usually wait for a buck and I've had some success over the years. Last year was almost comical with the phase of the moon being full for both the rifle and muzzle load, I was easy to see moving out into the blind at 5:30 AM. This year looks to be dark and hopefully a better hunt. Here's to good hunting!
I’ve always seen lots of deer in 82a. It’s where I cut my teeth rifle hunting when I was a teenager. I’ve had some good success and some colossal failures but not for lack of deer. I have a doe tag in 82a that I hope to fill in rifle season as it’s close to home and then will head up to the family property in 41 for second week with family. While there I expect to see about a 10th of what I see in 82a deer wise.
82a is full of deer. same with 81a.
tho on my cameras its been quiet for the past 2 or 3 weeks around where i am.
the main reason you wont be able to get permission from the farmers is because those properties have been hunted by the same guys for decades and have locked the properties up. now they are passing the permission down the line to the new generation of hunters.
the way you get permission from the Mennonites is knowing a farmer who knows them and vouches for you for the most part.
thats my experience anyways.
Got a camera on a buddy's farm in 82a. Got a pic of a buck today for the first time in 5 months. Usually same couple does. I've seen plenty of deer moving on next farm over but it's built better for deer. He also has a rural development on the opposite side where houses have been going up steady for a few years that doesn't help his situation. But good deer numbers overall. I'm 15 minutes or less to my hunting spots in 84,82A and 85B and there isn't a shortage of deer in any of them. But that doesn't include crown land.
Hunting priviledges are handed down to each generation as someone mentioned. I've lived in 82a for 7 years and I've yet to get permission for deer on private land. It's crown land hunting for me and all the other newcomers to the area. I don't expect it's going to improve in the future. Fortunately there's a good number of crown properties as Species mentioned. You'll be shocked opening day though!
I’ve always hunted 82a around Durham and Allen Park. The 4 farms we hunt have always had good deer numbers. We have gotten permission on a 5th place this year that looks good as well
