So me and my father in law decided to go put some birds to bed since we know where they like to sleep. Unfortunately we didn't see any birds fly at all. So to you experts out there does a sunny day and wind keep ducks and geese waiting for dark?

They started flying at about 5:30pm for us tonight. Windy days tend to keep them moving around a bit. Sunny days with no wind will often see the ducks move in the last 30 minutes. Also depends where your at in the migration. Locals verses travellers etc.
The almost full moon also has the birds flying much later than usual. I've heard them flying over our place well after dark when the moon is bright and the skies clear.
Thanks guys, I just found it weird not to see at least 1 duck flying around.
Yes to your question about sunny weather and no wind, but if I'm reading your post correctly it sounds like your hunting their roost. If so it only takes one evening of shooting to send them else were. You may not see anything now till the migrants show up.
That was the first time we hunted the roost at night, But we didn't see a duck or a goose in the vicinity of where we were. In the mornings its a zoo of ducks at times. Who knows I'm just trying to narrow it down. Thanks for the help
I've heard ducks and geese fly over our place as late as 11pm on a full moon. They are heading to the river to roost.
Must of been the full moon, at least thats my excuse i could tell my father in law LOL
Best bet for an evening hunt is cool, overcast, perhaps with a slight drizzle and a decent wind. The clouds tend to get the birds heading back to bed early as does the wind and cold weather as they try to tuck in before it gets too cold out.
Just my opinion for this area and we all know that opinions are like butt holes: everyone has one.
if your shooting a roost, it's best to do it in the morning when they return from fields, that way they aren't landing on you after legal shooting time.
They fly over our property as late as possible, right before dusk, never when it's warm.
All it takes is 1 time hunting a roost and they are trained not to return......would you if you were getting peppered at going to bed????
