Fruit flavoured tanning oil.
Same tactic, hunt the first hour by sitting and waiting then walk around the corn edges looking for deer that might be taking a walk or looking for love....
The evening would be the other way around, start walking around the corn edges during the last legal hour of light and then sit tight (in a good looking corner/spot) for the last 15 minutes of legal light. It's going to be great.
I was staring at my gear tonight thinking "this crap is all too warm!" All I know is I better get an extra bag of ice for the beer cooler!
With all the reports of big bucks cursing at midday, just thought I'd be missing some action so I do the occasional all-day...
I wish my spot was close enough that I could do an AM sit them a PM sit... I'm about 45 min drive to my spot.. 90 min x 2 can eat up a lot of time, gas and money... need to find a closer spot!
I usually do all day or half day. With busy schedule and having to drive far to the woods, I make do with what I have. Really looking forward to nice weather though.
A few years back there was a spell of unseasonably hot weather, I think it was 2008. I spent most of the week in light shoes with my sleeves rolled up. There was hardly any movement through the day, but eventually we figured out the deer were spending their time in the swamps... actually laying up in standing water. Remember, at this time of year the deer are dressed for -20, not +20, and they can't shed layers to cool off.
We used to do the am/pm thing too, and go back to camp for lunch, but it's a big mistake. I've shot several deer between 11-2, and most of those were right around 1 pm. If I haven't seen anything by 2-2:30, I don't expect to until last light.
as long as the mosqitos are out in action. i flicked one off my eye while holding still for a young buck a few years back. i still wish i held out and let it destroy my eye for me to take the shot.
I will be out all day at least 3 of the 7 days . I have on camera 3 nice bucks 2 10 pointers and 1 8 pointer.
There are a few smaller ones also . I will take the first one that comes out in daylight.
Good Luck to All of you .
