One of the kids just found this in the front yard any ideas to what it might be?
The hole is about 2. 5 to about 3 inches
What ever it is it took a fair bit of dirt out lol. Thanks.

Chipmunk would be my guess. I have the same thing in my back yard and have seen the little bugger go down into it.
Chipmunk- but that's more dirt than I've seen in my yard. Must be a BIG chipmunk. :)

Seems like alot of dirt from a chipmunk lol. Im going to go sit close by near dusk.must be a mansion in there .

If it keeps at it there will be a sink hole soon .hope they have it well supported inside lol. Its on the side of a hill if it makes a difference.

My garage floor is slowly collapsing due to chipmunk tunnels. Next door they had a hole from under a maple tree the came out in the sump pump pit, a straight distance of over ten feet and a depth of four feet, gravel soil....

I've seen them move a lot of dirt to make a home.
The size fits a chipmunk but the location doesn't. They would prefer to the entrance to be closer to, or hidden by, bushes, roots, plants or trees. Doesn't mean it isn't a chipmunk just means I'm not convinced. Do you see a lot of evidence of voles in late winter/ early spring?
Put your garden hose up to the lawnmower exhaust and shove the other end into the hole, give him some forced air heating.
Well its a chipmunk. Saw one come out today. They are safe this year and i will give them a bag of peanuts lol. To late to evict them now . They are safe for now but thats where i pile my snow lol
