Second rut starting?

I'm workin in Whitby between thickson rd and brock rd just off the south side of the 401


I watched two bucks today chase a fawn or small doe for an hour around the jobsite.

The doe would get spooked from the machinery and run. The bucks wouldn't take there eyes off her and only moved when she did. I finally seen the bigger buck try to mount her but she kept moving forward. 8 pointer and 6 pointer



I couldn't believe it...needless to say I did a whole lot of nothing for that hour just watching them..this is 300 yards from the 401

Buddy txt me a 8 pointer he shot today so I would say there are still looking love.

Grunted in a nice 8 today would not turn for a shot .....

This year has been kinda weird with the weather. Did they ever really go into a full on rut in late Oct/Nov? Not a lot of people noticed much daytime activity from what I've been hearing.

Had a nice 10 pt cross the road in front of me today mid afternoon just south of Georgetown.

I spent the PM today walking bush lots with my bow. I can't believe the number of Deer I saw. The bucks are acting all wonky and the does are running them ragged. I didn't get any shots away,but,I know where I'm setting up this weekend. The change in weather has really got them cranked up.

x2 Only saw one buck in day lite

2 road kills and a quick spotting of one since last friday during my Haliburton/ Oshawa commute. They seem to be on the move with the frosty weather.

I'm wondering if we're still in the first rut... saw a big buck bolting across the road in broad daylight the other day... must be sniffing around for does still...

The mature 8 point I shot last week came by me @ 4:45pm. He was walking really slow with his head down sniffing the ground probably looking for a doe. He didn't have a care in the world untill my .300gr XTP was sent on it's way... :)

Seen both bucks again yesturday at 1:30pm....no doe this time but both bucks walking around nose to the ground

I was in the stand last night and saw a solid 10 pointer which had no interest in grunt or bleat calls. Nose down hunting something. In the area's I hunt I think the first rut is just winding down. The seeking phase was around the 7th of November as that morning I saw 5 bucks. After spending three days in the stand last week and seeing nothing I assumed that the does were in lockdown, but the end of the third morning I witnessed a buck chasing two does while walking out. The last two season where I am the bucks work their scrapes right from end of October through to Christmas. It seems like they never rest lol.

I saw some good action earlier this week when grouse hunting. Saw some fresh rubs and scrapes and bumped a pair of does walking thru the bush.

Id say were still in the phases of the first rut. The 2nd rut is typically in December in Ontario and they say its about a month after peak breeding in the November rut.

Just saw a nice 10 pointer with 2 does on the edge of bean field. Looked like he was tending his scrape.
That was at 11:30 am.
I seem to see more deer when its raining, and it was raining.

Buddy called me today and watched a buck chase a doe around in circles for about 5min. in a cut corn field about 9 am rut is definitely on again. wmu 68B. Unfortunately,I am at work until l Wednesday, can't wait to get the smoke pole out!! Black powder is the best season of all in my opinion!

Here in Ajax I think this is the first Rut no activity till this week

I'm in the Ottawa area. Last year no activity on the land I hunt till the night of the Nov 28th, scrapes and bucks on camera during the day with their noses to the ground. This year was the night of the 22nd. Not sure if it's the first rut or that is when the big boys travel trough this land.

Just got in form my blind in 53 and had a buck hang-up 40 yds out behind some trees at 4:50ish and then turn around and go back the way he came. I had a curiosity stick burning and I don't think he liked it. First time I've ever seed a deer while burning one of these and it was the last in the pack but after two weeks without a single daytime deer (buck or doe) pic on two trail cams, I was willing to try anything.... Did get a pic of a doe at night and then a buck following about an hour later with his nose to the ground about midnight (but that was on the 18th). Tried heat bleat, tending grunts and regular grunts in the morning and no response... I'll try my stand tomorrow.

Around Beaverton, I had a 5 pointer in front of me for twenty minutes and all he cared was food, and twice yesterday a 8 pointer was at an other stand during the day eating carrots, 7:58am and just before noon. So no, not yet around there.

Was out again this weekend. All the scrapes have been freshened up. Checked my buddies camera and there were 4 different bucks at differenet times over the night going at it pretty good. He was able to put down a giant 10 pointer who was trying to chase off a 2 1/2 year onld 4 pointer. I think the first rut is still going, or the lack of does just has all these bucks wound pretty tight.

Rodbender - if those deer are in huntable places, I think you could make a few bucks in shorter order by taking some hunters on your photography trips.

We have been doing deer drives Monday and today. We has bucks chasing does both days. And the ones we pushed out were teamed up in pairs as well.we did one push and had 9 deer come out all does and fawns. So some doe must be in heat ...Dutch

We pushed a few bushes again today .and both times we had a buck come out with does .first bush had a buck with two does second bush had a big buck with 4 does. And just before dark I see a big buck with three does .so thy are up to something. Lol

Just from I've heard recently there's been four bucks seen this week within a mile of me. All with does. All daylights sightings. The boys are still out whoring hehe.
