"Transplanted" Licking Branch Brings a Big 9 In - Trail Cam Video - Ottawa (Nov. 24)

Hello All,

Pretty excited with this latest trail camera footage I captured!

Decided to set up a mock scrape in this clearing late last week, and after reading about the technique, I broke off a licking branch from above an active scrape; attaching it to the branch directly above my mock scrape.

A big 9-point that I photographed last week showed up yesterday morning and did he ever go to work on that branch!
Goes to show you how important scent is to these animals.

That's pretty cool footage. Don't know if I missed that part of it but I would have thought that he would have freshened up that scrape.

He actually didn't freshen up the scrape, Bo, which I was quite surprised by. He was definitely preoccupied by that licking branch, though. Cam is set up in the same spot - will see what happens the rest of the week.

Had any does visited recently? His nose was to the ground when he came in and after marking that branch big time he was gone right away. Did you use a scent product in your mock scrape as part of your technique? I also assume you wore gloves when transferring the licking branch, because he sure wasn't shy of anything. Just wondering...

WOW! thats a nice footage! I wishe i can see this behavior live this weekend and put a other big buck on my wall! Have only sean small bucks here so fare this year! i will continiue to passe till dec 30! lol

He seemed to ignore the white string above that was maybe used to attach the licking branch.
Did you do anything to prevent your scent from getting on the actual branch?
He sure was busy with it.

Smitty55 - Does had visited the area quite frequently, but not actually the scrape. One did rub urinate just in front of the cam the day before. As for scent, I didn't use any this time. In the past I have used synthetic buck urine, but ran out the other week. And although I should have, I didn't have gloves on me and just used my bare hands.

Horridfiber101 - The white "string" is the twist tie I used to attach the licking branch. And didn't have gloves on me (which is recommended) so just used bare hands.
