Disgusting act !

That is disgusting. I hope they catch these poachers and do the same to them. No real hunter would ever disrespect an animal like that.

where abouts is this?
i lost a deer this year during the shotgun hunt. hit him with a slug, looked everywhere on the property and never found him. i had hopes i missed but doubted it. no blood trail, was thick woods where i shot him so he could have went anywhere.
chances of some a-hole trophy hunter is higher than that, but if i were lucky enough to come across the guy i shot weeks later, I'd totally saw off the head and mount him.
either way, sad to see!

That is sickening. I ope your friend called the mnr in to investigate. Hopefully they can track down whoever did this and make sure they pay for it. Such a waste!

That sucks . I hope it was reported.

It very well could have been someone finding a dead buck that was spoiled. A trophy Hunter would have taken the entire cape. I've seen deer along the highway that looked the same.

Could be a couple legitimate reasons.

Private property big acres
1/ road hunter in and out
2/from side property why wasted
3/trespassing just want rack
4/to lazy to clean gut shoot and trespassing
Deer was only two day dead , MNR was call and any honest hunter would have ring the door bell and tell and give explanation to enter

Agree but the tread blood trail did not cut head or was trepassing when shooting this is a total wasting and shown of disrespect toward a fair game this is real poaching not morale outrage

There was no blood, any idea how it died?

Did it look shot anywhere? (Maybe a natural death someone found?)

Any tracks around? (Maybe a dog kill and someone found it?, I have seen domestic dogs in a pack run down and kill deer just to kill them it seems)

Had there been any rain or anything to wash away any blood?

Very sad to see, any chances your buddy has trail cams up and may have got a pic of these people?

Take a look at the 2nd pic...

Regardless if it was a deer someone found laying dead and had nothing to do with its demise and decided to take the head, if you read the original post this is on private posted property and not next to a accessible road.

So this should not of been found by someone just walking, if I came across this on my property I would be pi@@ed. And people can't understand why land owners post their land

Really?

Because I've seen wolves and coyotes kill a deer and they don't carry guns. So the deer gets extremely fkd up in the process. Dogs or coyotes don't have a killing bite that can kill a deer (the way a lion, bear or mountain lion would) so they basically tire it out till they can drag it down, hold it, and then eat it alive, generally starting in the stomach.

It's gruesome and leaves a 10-20 foot diameter circle of blood around the deer. AKA nothing like these pictures.

As for why there's no blood if that deer was dead for a day and you cut its head off it wouldn't bleed much. Could be that.

My speculation (and that's all anything on this thread is so far), is that it was a gut shot deer that may have traveled some distance before expiring on this posted property. Whoever took the head, though, was obviously trespassing, whether it was the original shooter, or someone else who happened upon the dead animal.

I have found a couple dead deer on properties that I was the only one hunting, and both were gut shot. One was shot on an adjacent farm and traveled a few hundred yards through the bush to the property I was on. The other was shot over a 1/2 mile away from where I hunted. Through the course of conversation with others in the area, I was able to determine who shot and where. Unfortunately both animals were beyond salvaging.

The dog kills often are chewed up around the neck or head, meat is not touched, often some bites around the rear legs, they just kill to kill. They go home and have their kibble and sit by the stove.

I didn't look at the second picture, I retract the not shot comment.

You said it was near the river, looking at the wound it looks like it was shot, crossed or swam in the river and died as there is no blood around the wound on the fur.

I agree it was probably there a day (or more) with the lack of blood around where the head was removed.

Maybe a belly shot, ran a long ways, bleeding out, crossed the river (wound and hair on back legs look like they were wet), died there and a day later found by... poacher, fisherman, hiker.....???? we can do alot of speculation but not reach a firm account I am afraid.

Possible gut shot by the looks of second picture,hard to say without being there. Found later,head removed. Does not look like a big deer by the picture. Buck or doe.....,Does not appear to be bloated too much either. Hard to say exactly what happened.Hope he gets to the bottom of it.

What a waste

After thinking about for a bit, and with the lack of blood at the scene, maybe it was found too late to salvage/eat but took the head to remember the hunt.... Maybe even tagged it? I guess there can be a lot of scenarios that can be played out.... But my original (first reaction) may not have been right...either way, what a waste of meat...

I have seen a deer like this before .it was a real big buck that had been hit by a car .some one found it a day latter and cut the head off with a chain saw ..I seen the horns after thy got it home ..

We still do not know if someone found the deer dead and took the head .nothing wrong with that. ..

Talk to him this morning ,he did contact the MNR and they would be coming by tomorrow ? as well he did fill a report with the OPP on Friday, when he left for work Tuesday morning he did notice a pickup park at the bridge and give description to the OPP at this point we can only speculate on the different scenarios ,he found the deer Thursday night and they was a fair amount of rain between Tuesday and thursday so trespasser fishing could have found it , road hunters shooting from the road , hunters trespassing ,deer shot on adjacent farm are some ,he did talk to both his neighbors so hopefully it nothing bad and if it is hope they get caught

Turn out the bottom end of is propriety had atv track all over it and even under is built in tree stand , they got access from the neighbours' propriety whom give them permission onlyfor their place without knowing them they drove by the no hunting signs , they were no atv track by the deer as it was 200 yard from is house ,after seeing the pic of the deer they assure my friend that permission will be revoke and will not be granted again to others . This deer got wasted because of illegal trespassing and honest land owners got taken and turn off by two A..hole u think they great hunters and ruin it for the honest ones

I agree 100 percent re trespassing just as bad; it has become a war zone around Ottawa in recent years with trespassing issues; ive lost a great hunting area I used to take my kids into because some turds drove in over the landowners dual fence (electric/cattle and standard fencing) left 2 does with the hind quarter cut out in a field lying in the open, a complete waste, the owners cattle and a horse got loose as well; they just drive in from adjacent property and it tough to catch them. I helped the owner repair the fencing...he was done with people on his place; his thoughts are..if no one is allowed on his place, he can call the OPP on anyone he sees..pretty sad; same kind of slobs who shot up the new Marlborough forest signage; it paints a broad stroke for us as hunters. I spoke to a group of bird watchers from Ottawa 2 weeks ago and after a few minutes of talking they relaxed and agreed we could share the space on the Crown land. One of the guys had a cell phone video of 2 hunters in a pick up the week prior in there, one riding in the back with a shotgun; sure looks bad, and does appear that they are hunting out of the vehicle while it drives.

Took a while but I think you are getting my point. Its a slippery slope when you condone one form of trespassing over another. Its our responsibility to seek permission on land that we know or should of know is private. Regardless if its posted or not if your not paying taxes on it you don't make the rules. There is a horrible sediment out there built up over the years from fence jumpers that will only get worse if its not stopped now and we literally mend fences with private land owners.
