Hi everyone,
I just completed a camp cookout video about roasting chestnuts on the open fire. It brings back fond memories of when I did this with my dad as a kid. See the link below if you want to try this the next time you are at your camp (or at home if you have a fireplace). They are very tasty and in season now.

I personally find plain roasted chestnuts rather bland. Anyone have any recipes to liven them up?

The other way is to boiled them but there are stil bland. They are suppose to be served with any kind of roast and gravy, pretty good mix.Quote:

My local grocery store hasn't had any good chestnuts for the last couple of years. I love fresh roasted chestnuts , my wife finds them bland though.
Just doing a little more reading....remember that horse chestnuts are toxic and the sweet chestnuts are edible.
Great video, nice to know your close to Ottawa. Never tried but I will this year, along with training, learning the characteristics of wild mushrooms I will be foraging this year. Prime targets are Morels, chanterelles and puffs.

Ya, You definitely don't want to eat horse chestnuts!
In regard to the bland taste of the chestnuts...you could also remove them from the shells and maybe shake some spices, salt and pepper on them. I like them plain but not everyone does.
